@birdsofbalt Brilliantly observed question! No, we don't. Some do now (American English spreads fast these days). We don't haul arses, hand them on plates, bust or kick them (except literally). An ass (with an English accent) is an animal. "You're an ass" = you're foolish. Stephen Fry: "that's arse-gravy!" = it's bullshit.

To some of us, the US use of "ass" seems a strange obsession. See F&L's "kickin' ass"

I love the accents. I think Fry's was slightly pretentious in a way to suggest not that he can't do it properly of course (he is brilliant), but that he is mocking making an American accent. Does someone agree or is it just me?
