my girlfriend was drinking with my baby ( i broke up with her months ago) but the baby is 27 weeks now.

when the baby is born, i will be there with the mother until it reaches an age where powder milk can take place.

then im taking the baby with me and be the proud, single, loving father most fathers wouldnt do for their child.

now my question is, since a babys mind is like a sponge, would any of the effects really matter as long i teach them as a baby till he/she grows older?

I have FASD. It can be hard at times. I have almost average IQ and i am 16 in grade 10. I have trouble in math and English mostly. I do get hyper easy and i cant stay still so school is fun :P I am not a very socailable person i dont have many friends but i have a new one :) I feel pain more. September 9 is FASD awearness day! Help make people aware! :D

I am 16 and before i was born i was exposed to Alcohol and i have FASD. I have almost a nornal IQ but still have troble :( I cant cant really do ANY math in my head i have to write it down or use my fingers :( and i have a bunch of other problems the doctors cant figure out :( I manage and I will NEVER drink even if i am NOT pregnant!!

The suffering I've endured and put others through is immense. My mother (a smoker and boozer back then) never admitted to anything. Perhaps the miscarriage, and two children dead from malformed hearts, after delivery, on separate occasions might be a clue. But the family must protect it's secrets. As well my dad's favorite quote when he was 'entertaining' was to say 'it was believed that the placenta protected the fetus from the effects of alcohol.' Perhaps the guilt needed salved.

I'm sorry your mom was so selfish as to drink while she was pregnant with you. I had a friend years ago, that had FAS, and he had some noticeable facial deformities, was slow mentally, and could not function without assistance in society. People took advantage of him a lot, and we tried to protect him as much as we could. It just breaks my heart that people still do things like this.

I knew a couple where the wife was an alcoholic and they had a daughter who was clearly FAS. The father knew the wife was drinking, but did nothing. When I met him again 30 years later, he said he wished he'd gotten a vasectomy when he had the chance. They had two more kids with FAS before his wife died of liver damage.

My biological mom had 5 babies, my big sister has severe autism, and we and my 3 brothers all have FAS. She was irresponsible and had 4 of her children taken away from her. I'm the less severly touched, but I still had to cope with hyperactivity, attention deficit, sleep problems all my life, recurring nightmares, irrational fears, all of this leading to social and comportmental problems. I think of drinking or drug using while pregnant as nothing less than a murder.

I myself was born with fas and I was born two months early. I have a have a little bit of a hard time walk I use canes to help me walk and I'm okay with because people tell me that in some way or somehow I give them hope I guess. I am now 21 years old and I walk around town all the time even though I have a hard time walking it doesn't stop me from taking long walks :) and I enjoy them.

You know, when I was a young teen, I was coming off of so many drugs and had survived so many other issues. I was pregnate and still drank. Now my son has attention deficit and anger problems. He is 17 now and I feel horrible for being such a bad parent. I hope that who ever reads this will understand how necessary it is to not drink at all while your pregnate. If you somehow screwed you life up by getting pregnate, at least give your child a chance by not smoking pot or drinking.

My mother was an alcoholic. She had five babies between 1951 and 1995 (two sets of boy/girl fraternal twins two years apart; I was in the second set of twins). She drank AND smoked through every pregnancy, including my younger sister. By some MIRACLE, all of her children have genius IQ's. I am bipolar, as I suspect my twin brother is as well. My older brother and his twin sister have suffered mental illness as well (despite IQ's off the chart). My older brother has Asperger's syndrome.
