@saw426 I went with the 3" stainless Magnaflow system with X pipe. Also added dumps and electric cutouts so I could have lots of sound at the touch of a switch.
now theres a hemi killer right there those were the only engines that could compete with the hemis in the 60's sure as hell gm couldnt make any decent engine they still dont all their big blocks are crap
@FordF15004 Lol you’re SO obviously a Ford fan. Lighten up. The big block Chevy is one of the best of the older style engines. In fact, I think I remember an article that compared a 460 Ford to a 454 Chevy. They built the two as close as possible, same cam, etc. but the Chevy still ended up with a HP advantage courtesy of its canted valve heads. Chevys like to breath. The Ford also costs a little more.
@Warblade118 see this is how shit gets started on youtube. u get some guy ( you in this case) that comes in a ford video and starts talking shit or saying chevys engines are better. in my book, chevy is ALMOST as bad as a nissan. im sorry but i HATE chevy. so just quite. i dont care about shitty chevy or their duraturd diesel trucks.
@SMpaintball78 Were did i say Chevy is better? Does it bother you that I’m OBJECTIVELY citing what I saw in Hot Rod magazine (it may have been Car Craft, I don’t remember exactly and its not that important) to someone insisting big block Chevy is crap? Don’t get mad at me. I didn’t conduct the test. Even so it only stands to reason that a canted valve head would have an advantage over standard inline valves, just like the Hemi has an advantage over both canted and inline valve arrangements.
I was in Europe the entire month of April and the only V8 I saw was in a Corvette in Brussels. Lots of tiny euro cars and a couple of nice Ferraris that sounded fantastic. What is the real European V8? I would love to hear one, do you have a youtube link?
@hernandezrivas Not sure on the V8 list, but you mention some very fine cars indeed! I would like to not only hear one but also go for a ride to experience the performance.
Ha ha "come to Europe and see how a REAL V8 is built" Ha I have a 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis with a 4.6L V8 312,000 miles on it. My dad was the original owner, and now I use it as a road car. Almost all original parts except for the EGR valve. In August I drove it from the L.A area to Lake Havasu, cruising at 95-100 in the desert. Come to the U.S. and see how a real V8 is bilt

@hernandezrivas Stop believing Top Gear like if it was the bible, it's ilogical to compare a 3 or less year old 100+ thousend euro car with a 30 year old classic muscle car... Actually, that muscle car is pretty good. Any of the 60's and early 70's muscle car could beat for example, the 60's and 70's porsche 356 and bad handling 911s. I'm not saying America is the best, im in fact european, im talking about fair comparasions... Ah. Audi makes some nice V8s too.
Well, nice to hear your opinion. I don't care much for how you criticize the sound of american v8's and how you say "real" v8's are in europe. Personally, i believe the best v8's are Fords Modular, chevrolets LS, Mercedes v8's are almost always good, and Dodge with their srt and rt 8 cylinders.
I've seen the most impressive features come from these v8's.
@hernandezrivas You say this isn't a real V8 and yet, it's a 40 year old car that is still in mint cherry condition driving the streets. The only V8's i see in Europe are $200k Brand new 2011 Ferrari's and the like, like you listed below. You call those well built but they've only been around for a year or two, where's the real muscle cars? The ones from 40 years ago? Oh...wait. There are none. All you have are plastics. Have fun with your "real" v8's. You don't know what you're missing though.
@hernandezrivas Well... Any old engine wherever it comes from will sound like that being set on a low idle. That probably has a super low idling point plus probably modified exhaust. Stock it would sound more like a normal engine. Anyways. Are you comparing a 30 year old car to those modern "european V8s"? A 1970's mercedes AMG will sound like that. A Ferrari dino will sound like that. A 70's aston martin V8 Vantage will sound like that.
@hernandezrivas is that a joke? the V8 was born to be an American engine and will alllways be made better in the U.S. that anyware else! I would like to know what other country can compete with what the U.S. has done with the V8!
Well, to look through them internally, it is a straight pipe with perforations, between the perforations and the outer shell of the muffler they are packed with a type of fiberglass.
There is very little room for headers but they are not "huggers". Put in a Comp 275DEH cam, balanced, and many other aftermarket adds. Wanted a streetable car that would keep going without a lot of maintenance.
damn i was hoping thats all it was. i really like that sound i have hooker supercomp huggers and getting 3 inch pipes with glasspacks but havent put any of it on. i figured mine would sound simliar, but its a sbc not ford
It will still sound good! The biggest difference is that a big block moves a lot of air and has a different exhaust sound than a small block. Put that exhaust system on and have fun!
In 1978 my buddy bought a 1969 Mach 1 with a 428CJ for $3000 . He put headers and an intake manifold on it. Damn thing was fast as hell. He eventually totaled the car in 1982 (hit a bridge abutment) and sold the engine for $600.
Sweet! All American Muscle! Good job man! I'm picking up my '73 Firebird 400 next week, I can only hope she'll be as quality of a car as yours when I'm done restoring her!
Right now, it has a clone Oldsmobile 400...I', debating between either a 383 stroker (professionally built, blue printed and balnaced) 500 + HP engine, or a blown 454...the price is the same between companies, I just need to figure out if I want to replace the Formula hood with a standard hood that can be cut out to allow the blower! LOL! I'll post videos in the next week or so (my schedule permitting), and we'll see how it goes!
"Chrysler invented the Hemi" HAHAHAHAHA..... No, the Hemi (half-a-sphere) type head was an old design when Chrysler picked it up in the 50's. The Miller indianapolis engine had it, Meyer Drake etc. Many European pre-WWII cars had a similar design, as did the 4 cyl Crosley cars in America and many others. Drag Racing itself "invented" the Hemi's reputation when their Fuel (Nitromethane) Dragster classes began posting fantastic speeds exemplified by Don Garlits and others.
I have my sound turned halfway down and it still makes my speakers give me destructive interference. That's tight. My truck sounded like that a bit, and the only thing it had on it were straight pipes and Cherry Bomb glasspacks, plus a Holley 4-carb. You should check it out on my profile, I just wished it woulda lasted longer than two hours... TT^TT
I'm not sure about that but the first 429 ever built and the first 1969 Mustang were paired together in early 1968 For Mickey Thompson... there were actually 3 of them a Red, Yellow, and Blue. All have since been long gone except for the blue one.. I believe its owned by somebody in Mickey's family.
Only when modified did the 429 BOSS outperform the CJ motors. 429 BOSS was built as a high RPM screamer that lacked the low end torque of a 428CJ. Even the 429CJ's didn't have as much low end torque as the 428CJ - chiefly because of their shorter strokes. The big BOSS motors had the most potential once you started modifying them.
very nice ride, sweet sound. the suspension must be awesome too, cause that car doesnt move for nothin, when you stomp on the gas. again love the american muscle cars. after my motor is reinstalled i will have to do an exhaust clip. i have a 62 lincoln.
@jakeandaim07 My dad's Camaro sounds just as good as this? So did his Mustang. He owns both a chevy and a ford and both of them are just as good as the other. What's with the brand name hate?
brand name hate is from companys not building cars the way they used two in the 50's-70's ford and chevy cars would last well over 200,000 but the way there built today they barely make 100,00 miles. today ford and chevy make piece of crap cars to make more money. after selling the car for 30k they charge anoth 10k in parts over the 5 years of ware and tear.
but manly each company has great stuff. a ford cobra engine and a chey tranmission,
@jakeandaim07 chevys just cant sound good period XD every one of them i hear sounds like a fat lady taking a shit and then i get to hear nice lifter ticking lmao and they say my trucks badass
because they were first made in 1963 by cherrybomb as a result of kids wanting to make their cars sound like the racecar drivers on tv. they were used stock on 1966 shelby gt 350 also.
what style tranny is in that stang, cuz to the best of my knowledge its a fe style tranny right. and my reasons 4 askin is cuz im pickin up a super cj or should i say stealin a cj 4 what im payin but the 78 bird that im puttin it in has a c6 and the guy swears up and doun that the 428s havea c6 pattern to is. sorry to bug u on that
God yes. Theres something about a V8 that makes me get goosebumps. I don't think anybody could say anything bad about that car...Oh god yes!!!! It sound perfect. ol school like. My Capri is loud,Fast,And quick...BUT its missing that awesome V8 sound. I envy it.
Way too hard on the ears if you go any distance at all. Its just right now for long distance and I put on electric cutouts to make it even louder than before at the touch of a switch....
Must be collecter bolt on glasspacks cuz I can't see em. Besides, i've heard some pretty shitty sounding V8's with glasspacks... and remember, not all glass packs are created equal.
Don't believe any o what you read and only half of what you hear didn't sound like packs to me but my experience with CJ motors has been limited. I tried to put up a vid of my slightly modded 302 with headers and straight pipes, lets ee if he puts it through. otherwise, check out my vids.
thanks for pointing that out, but I don't see the glasspacks. Why are you all so testosterone filled? I was suggesting a muffler for his "quieter exhaust" so try and read between the lines. Nice Arab drift video btw XD

brand name hate is from companys not building cars the way they used two in the 50's-70's ford and chevy cars would last well over 200,000 but the way there built today they barely make 100,00 miles. today ford and chevy make piece of crap cars to make more money. after selling the car for 30k they charge anoth 10k in parts over the 5 years of ware and tear.
but manly each company has great stuff. a ford cobra engine and a chey tranmission,

Glass packs are awesome i dont know why you think they are old school though? give me your thought on why they are old school
94fordf350 3 years ago
because they were first made in 1963 by cherrybomb as a result of kids wanting to make their cars sound like the racecar drivers on tv. they were used stock on 1966 shelby gt 350 also.

Brutu583 4 years ago
is this your everyday driver? why would you want it more muffled >:P
f0rdman 4 years ago
Way too hard on the ears if you go any distance at all. Its just right now for long distance and I put on electric cutouts to make it even louder than before at the touch of a switch....
428cobrastang 4 years ago
ya can't beat cutouts
f0rdman 4 years ago
what is the difference between a 427 abd a 428
78f2504x4 4 years ago
1 cubic inch
f0rdman 4 years ago
Thats what I was thinking! Any way, 427 has shorter stroke/bigger bore for net loss of "about an inch".
428cobrastang 4 years ago
Actually a 427 was closer to 425 cubes - but I know you were just trying to be funny.

I love loud exhaust, but that sounds too raw... get somthing on it other than pipe. Some good old flowmaster 40's would sound awesome.
my83merc 4 years ago
wow, you cant read. It's got 3" Glasspacks. Any v8 with Glasspacks is just fine the way it is. Learn to read and listen.
srouxd162 4 years ago
Must be collecter bolt on glasspacks cuz I can't see em. Besides, i've heard some pretty shitty sounding V8's with glasspacks... and remember, not all glass packs are created equal.
my83merc 4 years ago
I suppose so. But you should have been able to read and tell that it was glasspacks.
srouxd162 4 years ago
Don't believe any o what you read and only half of what you hear didn't sound like packs to me but my experience with CJ motors has been limited. I tried to put up a vid of my slightly modded 302 with headers and straight pipes, lets ee if he puts it through. otherwise, check out my vids.
my83merc 4 years ago
Loud pipes are for inconsiderate jerks. Have fun annoying anyone within 100 yards of your car.
IlliterateWino 4 years ago
If you were a little more literate you would've read
the post and known he's changing to a quieter
exhaust.
1musiclvr 4 years ago
thanks for pointing that out, but I don't see the glasspacks. Why are you all so testosterone filled? I was suggesting a muffler for his "quieter exhaust" so try and read between the lines. Nice Arab drift video btw XD
my83merc 4 years ago
That's half the fun with having dragpipes---no mufflers!
