Alonso had a much better car and/or tyre. You can hear it on the engine noise. Schumachers car is almost always on the traction control, and visibly sliding in the corners. While Alonso is just driving around comfortably. At least compared to Schumi, who has to work very hard to even keep the car on the road. Renault was a good car, but the Michelin tyres were even better on the Renault.

@Georg1979 Traction Control is forbidden since '93. Schumi had no traction control nor Alonso. Schumi's the best driver on wet tracks, probably better than Senna. But you know, you can't win all the races. There are many factors to be considered considering car setup, suspension stiffness, Tyre pressure, downforce, Tyre type, torque, engine accl/decl map etc. In this case I think Alonso had the advantage of such things. Also Schumi & Alonso - THE BEST OF THE BEST, I love them both.

@GicaEric by telling the truth, TC became legal some years later and then it has been forbidden since 2008 In 2006 there was traction control, you can hear it from the "crunch" noise the engine does, it's not the engine itself, but i'ts the TC

Omg, you can just see the grip of that renault sparking of your screen. Schumacher's Ferrari really sucked in comparison with Alonso's car (Compare it to the Red Bulls and Ferrari's now, if you will). Amazing how Schumi managed to make it so difficult for Alonso at the end of the 2006 season.

jea, schumacher's car was also better for 5 years. But the difference is that Schumacher has not been able to win Senna or Alonso. He has only won without them. Alonso won him twice with a similar car, and so did Senna. He is very good, but he is not the best of all times. He is lucky that Ross Brawn and Ferrari were on his way.

Also a little comment on your last part. 2 of the 3 years he drove the 4th or maybe even 5th best car on the grid. In 05 Schumacher won once with the 3rd best car on the grid. He has no victories this season, not even a podium finish. In the end it's the best driver who wins the championship, and that person is most likely the person with the best car.
