im 14 years old, been a fan for a few years and clash are one of my favorite bands and it just pisses me off that half the kids my age have never heard of the clash, whats goin on with the world :(
no offense to those Clash fans (as I have been a fan for 20 years), but David Lee Roth was on the money with his comment... lighten up or it could all fall to pieces.
Diamond Dave had a good time all the time.....and it ''fell to pieces" even worse. Plus he never stood for anything so he really didn't leave anything behind.
Dave's idea of escapism in music is mentally toxic to be a part of for too long and Joe wanting people to escape from the American idea "You make, you buy, you die" by buying Clash albums and tickets is incredibly hypocritical.
Bottom line: find moderation within confrontation and escapism, and stop getting trolled by the fringed ideas from people like Strummer and Dave, and just enjoy the music.
It was the US Festival at the Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernadino, CA, USA, on the 28th of May 1983. It was also Mick Jones last show with The Clash. And, the drunken wh*re with blonde hair who raves at the very beginning of this clip is David Lee Roth, who at that time was the female lead singer of Van Halen. A metalhead can never be a Punk Rocker, much less a Clash City Rocker!
Joe Strummer (21 August 1952 - 22 December 2002) - Never Forgotten, Always an Inspiration, Always Missed!!!
Yes Ben, there are some unofficial CDs and vinyl, and, if I remember well, there is also an official DVD but it is sold in North America only. Try to google: "Clash Calling" (double quotes included), which is the CD with the best audio quality.
Because U2's message is fake. They don't hold any of their convictions to their heart. Most of the time you hear about Bono these days is when his business interest are in the paper. Look at the "red line" he launched with companies like Nike American Express. Dinner with George Bush and Tony Blair. His hotel security remove homeless people from the back of his hotel in Dublin, which I've seen with my own eyes. They don't have a message, they have a sales pitch.
@trollfinger - I'm talking about U2's message each song brings to the forefront (ie. Joy, Sorrow, Lust etc..) I'm not really interested in Bono's political agenda.
I don't like seeing Joe with those other guys like vince white and nick shepard, its just not the clash! And why does it feel like its always the manager who fucks things up lol
Really ? Go Bono ? That prick has stood on a stage with the owners of Nike, American Express and other horrid corporations and said "We need to work with these people to take them down" while they applauded him. Bono is a prick, a huge prick at that. He talks about poverty while security remove homeless people from the back of the hotel he owns here in Dublin every night.
Anyone know where the section is that has a guy talking about Strummer's emotional reaction to hearing 'rock the casbah' was being used by the american military?
i hate it when i see a punch of fucking rich people dance to shoud i stay or should i go. i`m sick of all this people who dress like punks and don't understand anything about it. poor joe, clash forever
Hahaha! YES! Bono sounds like he was programmed to say the shit he says. Like he swallowed a dictionary and its phony. I wish he'd just climb down off his cross and WAKE UP.
@punk1188 David Lee Roth uses his music to escape and the Clash use their music to confront reality. I don't think one approach is better than the other, but I think trying to escape reality to often can stunt your growth as a person, it could stunt our growth as a planet if everyone listened to Dave. Ha ha ha.
Notice Paul is the last to go? Becus he's the 1 they all want 2 play with! Becus look close, he's the coolest. Bono so f'in lame! About how pist off U R - Get out of your own head 4 this bit 2 Joe, will U? And the rest calling Joe a coward b/c he didn't want to confront. Go F** yourselves, you weren't in Joe's shoes! Money grabbers!sayin that now he's dead, you'll B struck down and Bernie is a sick f*** of terd. did U hear the crap he was spewing? He was not good for them, do the math. RIP Joe.
I hate to say it man, but David Lee Roth isn't a has-been motherfucker, he's a never was. I can't think of anything Van Halen did had any fucking bite, morality, nuance or lyrical feeling that the Clash exhibited on most everything they ever did. One of the great shames of Rock, Punk or whatever you want to pidgeonhole this transcendant band into, their catalogue of music was fantastic, but there was much, much more to be mined from all of them.
I'm too old to marry you, but I looked up your bio and favorite bands. You've got great taste! I can't believe someone as young as you knows about Arthur Lee and Love. "Forever Changes" is one of the top five albums ever. I think you might like my music. I write, sing, play guitar and bass and have seven songs on youtube.
There's an obvious reason why The Clash are still revered, and "Diamond" Dave is regarded as nothing but an embarrassment and a fucking joke, and intelligent people understand that.
That tosser doesn't know what he is talking about. They are not serious they were just telling the truth. Their lyrics from 30 years ago are still relevant today. The world need a band like the clash now.
The song is called "(In The) Pouring Rain". It is a live performance by the so called "Clash II" during their 'Out Of Control' tour in 1984 ("probably" at Seattle, Washington, USA, 30 May 1984). The song was 1st released on the soundtrack of this fantastic documentary in 2007.
what is the song they are performing at about the 4 minute mark? thanks!!

Mhm, yep. And now look at modern bands-- Not taking like seriously anymore-- HUH. They turned music into soulless, mainstream, useless garbage.
Musicians, we have the right to take like fucking seriously to refrain from that.
