ok...the plutonium bomb , how it works, is no longer a secret. The plutonium is about the size of a grapefruit, surrounded by insensitive high explosives to make a symmetrical compression or implosion. A very sudden change in density makes it supercritical and a massive nuclear explosion follows. You can use tritium (a hydrogen isotope) in the core of the plutonium to boost the yield to more than double..this is called "boosting". The "fat man" bomb was un-boosted; it did NOT contain tritium.
