man im glad i didnt buy one of those kits i never would of got it installed way to much work for me whats it cost to have one installed yours looks great i got a 1960
1961 GMC truck suspension - great job Pete, what kind of paint do you use on the chassis and brake caliper (the black stuff)? Can you recommend any good paint for brake calipers? If they were a cast aluminium alloy would you prime them first or would you use a direct paint? Thanks James
@jamesinengland1 If it's an aluminum caliper I would either have them powdercoated or use an acetone self etching type primer that will have a good bite to it, so it will grip in to the aluminum and then paint with a high quality urathane single stage paint so if touch up was necassary you wouldn't have to worry about clearcoat. Pete
Pete, on your suspension/chassis welding for the GMC truck, what sort of shielding gas do you use for your mig welder, Argon-Co2 mix, a tri-mix or pure argon?
NICE WORK LOOKS GREAT NICE WELDS WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE OLL GMC 3500 DUMP TRUCK 4 SPEED WITH THE V-6 305?? CAN I USE PARTS FROM A NEW MOTOR OR TRUCK? PARTS STORES DONT GO BACK TO 61??
@Adamcoleify To my knowledge, intrenal parts no.. the carb., distributor and stuff like that my interchange. There is a place called Kanters Automotive you can look up on the internet,, they have all the parts you need for your drivetrain.. Thanks Pete
This video was informative, and at the same time hillarious.. Its reality that Almost everyone runs into the same problems,,, and it always lands on sunday, end of the day...

What ever company put that cross member together needs some serious help in the R&D department. I just prey they got that dive angel close to origional or tighter. cause that was a BIG problem with my buddies shoebox with mustang 2 suspension & rack. He bought his kit from a fairly well known company and everytime he called the tech service they would give him the best brown noser they got and explain how its his fault.
*thats probably going to be fun for the exhaust to fit through as well!
Pete thats a much better fit and the rake on the truck looks great, Im a retired (retarded) mechanic and there is NO WAY I would attempt fitting that X member. Your right get a pro to do the things you think you can do. It always works out cheaper in the end and it will be safe and youll be happy.
