I agree. I could never ascertain a consistent method for identifying fingers....a basic thing to do when making a film. You can figure it out but it is largely a waste of time when you can watch a decently planned "instructional" video
what the fuck are "p" "m" and "i"????? i've been playing guitar for a while and i've never heard those terms.....
"pointer" , "middle" , and "index" is the only thing i can think of but it doesn't even make sense cause pointer and index are the same finger.......i'd be able to figure it out but the guys small strings are so thin i can't see them vibrating on that close up angle...
@123guitartom123 P I M A C is a common abbreviation used for fingerpicking. Pulgar - thumb. Index - index finger. Middle - middle finger. Annular - ring finger. C - not sure on the name for this, but it's the little finger.
Thank you... Finally, a great lesson for starting blues guitarist, breaking down what the right hand does first was/is key for me, as I had no idea how to get that rhythm until you did this lesson. I can only imagine that for many blues veterans that this seems trivial, but not if your just starting..
Thanks again, I am a better guitar player today as a result of your lesson.
to the nail biters. playing with your finger tip is just fine. you have to remember that the finger nail is like having a plectrum(it makes your sound more audible). play however you like and remember there are no rules and just KEEP ON PLAYING. CHEERS!
to the nail biters. playing with your finger tip is just fine. you have to remember that the finger nail is like having a plectrum(it makes your sound more audible). play however you like and remember there are no rules and just KEEP ON PLAYING. CHEERS!
@TheGhostsSoul .it all depends on what kind of music youre wanting to play. if your wanting to play crazy guitar leads then you might want to use a pick, but if your wanting to play fingerstyle like in the video then you obviously don't need one. Most of the time when im strumming songs i don't use a pick by preference. my advice to you is do whats comfortable, you can't go wrong! as you progress you'll be able to use one regardless of whether you used one while learning, it's not a bad habit.
you need to plant A as you have double jointed thumbs which means you have limited extension of A. But you can have faster tremolo picking with a pick if you bend your thumb up.
P I M A C are abbreviations for the Spanish names for the fingers. If you really want to know what you're playing on guitar then you would learn the theory too.
being a intermediate player at best I found this very useful and informative.like the right hand exercises a lot.feel fortunate to have such a knowledgeable articulate player break all this down and not come off as know it all or show boat like so many of these vids can be.Thanks
@cluelocker P actually means "pulgar" or more commonly know as your thumb. this nomenclature is taken from the classical guitar method of right hand finger picking. for finger picking it actually is very useful to follow because it teaches you economy of movement in your rhythm hand. tyler explains this briefly in the video but there is a lot more skill and discipline that goes into it than you would think.
it would make more sense to call a r but thats just the way it is bro.
It's sounds kinda like robert johnson. he's just not doing the fills and leads that johnson does. i mean...he could be the rhythm guitarist in a johnson cover band. there could be guest appearances by clapton and keb' mo'...HAAAAAH!!!!!!! LOLZ this dude looks like a more awkward topher grace.
@ams914 agreed about the thumb picks, but if you have fingernails it creates more of a percussive sound. so technically you don't need them, but it's good to have them.

well this certainly isn't a beginner's lesson. Most beginners don't understand the concept of scales and swing rhythm. So no matter how he taught this it would be a bit dry. But he is quite a good teacher at exposing complex techniques in a manageable manner

Well I'm sorry you find it offensive, but I assure, as a man who almost exclusively play with his fingers, they're necessary. I do agree they don't need to be centimeter, but neither his nor mine come close to that.

Why are the three chords called 1st 4th and 5th, why not 1 2 and 3? And what makes it in the key of A, is it because the first chord is an A?
It doesn't make any sense.
sangolt88 2 years ago
number corresponds to the note within that key, ie A being the 1st note in the key of A, D being 4th note, E being 5th
