Thanks. I was just getting familiar with this technology and you shed some light about the HD file extensions. Interesting to note that you can just change the flv to mp4 and play it in quicktime.

you can download off youtube directly now, just go to your account and click videos or favorites and it has a option "download MP4"

ipod doesnt need high quality, because it just compresses it a whole shitload more than youtube already has. Ipod resolution is tiny.

BTW thankyou for this particular tutorial. It's been helpful I am still able to use the download helper to download the mp4 file which is the &fmt=18 but still I can't view them on youtube but I still can with the &fmt=6. Any ideas on why I can't because I have a good connection, windwos xp, latest flash, firefox browser.

&fmt=18 doesn't display anything but a black loading screen, only the &fmt=6.what do I do so that I can view &fmt=18 aswell?

&fmt=6 and &fmt=18 do the exact same thing. If only one works for you, all I can say is that's just weird, because when downloading the files either way they are exactly the same.

TIP: add &fmt=18 to the URL watch this or most any other YouTube video in higher quality
