  • thanks for uploading this video! nice school

  • thank you for sharing

  • waw

  • very beautiful church!

  • Why o they even have a church at oxford since most of its students are atheists anyway.

  • 24044 views and 55 comments ... that shows ??? maybe my dream of getting an formal informal dinber at Oxford among Formerean mathematicians just was fullfilled ... seems big enough ! the FOURmerean ...

  • We need some new John & Charles Wesleys Jesus Christ Bless the UK.

That they come back to God like the past, that He may bless them again.

The building is beautiful real love for design.

  • Just to clear a few things up:

    - The song is performed by New College, as per the description, nobody has claimed it is sung by the ChCh choir. It is, however, a very beautiful song :).

    - ChCh HAS a reputation to be very posh and full of rahs. However, the people actually in the college, at large, don't fit this stereotype. There are plenty of both state and public school students at every college at Oxford :).

  • Yes, this piece is Nimrod, by Elgar from his "Variations." There is also an orchestral arrangement, which is stunning as well. Check it out! I had never heard it sung by a boys choir before- exquisite!

  • I was hoping to find people's musical viewpoints here, but there appears to be some dispute going on about different colleges or something... And the ending of that video is very strange...

  • i've applied to go to Christ Church in 2011, hope i get accepted

  • Funny how it is a New College Choir Soundtrack....

  • It's not called Christ Church College, it's called Christ Church.

All of you people commenting on this are obviously retards. No one who deserves to be at Oxford talks all that rubbish about how great or shit the colleges are. You're embarrassing.

  • @UnOxonien: Thank goodness someone here has some semblance of intellect. Anyone actually listened to the gloriously amazing quality of the singers and their interpretation of the music? Having sung the work before, I know that it is ridiculously difficult. Kudos to Christ Church!

  • haha whats hilarious if ive been offered a place here, and im like the total opposite of its reputation

  • is it true christ church is the most hated college in oxford?

  • nah, they only think they're the oldest college and the poshest!

  • Al souls is th oldest and hertford is the poshest!

  • I'm going to be here next October, can't wait ^^

  • What are you reading?

  • I'm surprised that Oxford lets just anyone wander round the Great Halls of its old colleges. Here in Cambridge those kind of things are strictly off limits to tourists.

Christ Church is a gorgeous place although I'm biased to thinking my my college John's in Cambridge is nicer :P

    Ah the age-old Oxford/Cambridge debate....

  • no, I agree, it is a little annoying having tourists walking round all the time. Before I started I thought, 'well I guess they just let them in during the holidays...' nope. :|

  • LOL.

i'm at christ church, and its the most famous oxford college of them all, and arugably of either university, only trinity college can match it in terms of status and grandeur.

christ church is the most visited oxfrd college too. ...the fact of the matter is :P no one would want to go to cambridge collges apart from trinity anyway :P tehrye so lame :P

  • ...Trinity is just one obscenely big court, a library and a puny little meadow over the Cam. Oh yeah and there's the small factor of our May Ball. Please get some taste.

  • @hozsam - Sorry but that definition of Trinity is simply absurd. It includes not one but (depending on your criteria) between 8 and 11 courts (far more than Christ Church). It does not have a "puny little meadow over the Cam" but extensive private gardens, including a lake, an old manor house and neat, new state-of-the-art facilities, submerged in forest. That's not to mention the numerous other college properties or the fact that academically and financially it far exceeds any Oxford college.

  • It shouldn't be called "Christ Church Colleg", just "Christ Church".

  • Well said horvathmj!!! Agree with you. It should NOT be called Christ Church college, just "Christ Church".

  • why not, it's a college. Look it up.

  • Those stairs were used in the Harry Potter movies :)

  • Wow. Gorgeous. Is Cambridge this pretty? And which one's the better school? Or does it really matter?

  • ¿En que fecha estrenaron esta magnifica obra?.

Tengo entendido que fue arreglada por John Cameron especialmente para ustedes.

¿Cuál fue el motivo del estreno?

    Felicitaciones.

  • Muy bueno

  • I study at Pembroke college, just over the road from Christ Church, and sometimes walk through it to get to examination schools, but thanks for the detailed look inside. The Cathedral is beautiful.

  • ELGAR. LUX AETERNA.

  • El autor, el arreglador y los intérpretes son exelentes, coincido con mi compatriota de Argentina.

Me encantaría cantar esta obra en el coro que integro en mi ciudad de La Plata.

    Gracias por tanta belleza.

  • i study at christchurch college oxford. I'm also a complete aetheist and I always have been. But the cathedral is something special, the choir is fantastic. I love going to the services just to hear the choir. Truly mesmerising

  • how amazing.. i have always wanted to meet somebody in your condition. can you tell me how is the study system there? and how do you feel majoring in someting you dont believe in? :) plz im very interested.

  • i major in mathematics which i definately believe in. The study system? Well my own is quite compact, 10 lectures a week, 3 one hour long tuturials in the college with the fellows of mathematics and also 5 or more problem sheets per week. Apart from the tuturials it is very independant learning. Its pretty similar no matter which subject you major in.

  • Congratulations on that. There was one thing which I wanted to ask, why Oxford and not Cambridge? Thanks.

  • I liked Oxford more as a place. Cambridge is lovely though. Also Cambridge is better than Oxford for maths and I preferred my chances at Oxford. It really is a matter of taste I think.

  • What A levels did you get (and GCSEs)? Is it really a must to have a whole rack of A*s ?

  • I got AAA at A level, you pretty much need to (although I think A*s have been introduced now so I don't know anymore) but I didn't get a whole rack of A*s at GCSEs by any means, i got A*A*AAAAAAABBBB. GCSE's matter very little, its all about the interview.

  • wow :) nice, I got A*A*A*A*AAAABBB

  • Im currentlying studying AS levels and I'm finding them pretty tough :s Thanks loads for the adivce! :))

  • Exelente ! ;gracias ,desde argentina.

  • sadly the cathedral has just been turned into a high brow version of disneyland for adults, its impossible to worship or pray there during the day because of the noisey tourguides and tourists. such a pity as its a wonderful place

  • Wonderful. New College, Christ Church from Oxford It's my favoutites in UK with Westminster Cathedral choir in London. Great moment for me, thank's.

  • je sui allé visité cette université é elle é vraiment trè belle!!!!!!!

  • Maybe it's just me but I'm pretty sure this resembles Elgar's Enigma Variations a LOT. Please tell me if I'm wrong.

  • Hey! Appreciate your thoughtful comment. I wasn't familiar with Elgar's Enigma Variations but through research found that Lux Aeterna is the choral setting of Nimrod, part of the Variations. I doubt if Elgar himself wrote the choral arrangement, but I'm not sure. If anyone knows, please leave comment. Thanks!

  • This particular Lux Aeterna was arranged by John Cameron

  • Sadly not and Elgar original - John Cameron arranged it I believe.

  • Nice one - quality looks fine to me. I am watching this from a free internet place provided by the local council of Obidos, Portugal. Music suits where I am now - building which is a few hundred years old.

  • Thanks so much!

My cousins are incorrigible, but love them to bits. lol

I'm so frustrated the way my videos are compressed when uploaded to youtube. I suspect that if you use the YouTube uploader, it'll come out better, but I have a Mac and their uploader program is for Windows only at the moment. Urgh!

  • that dos'nt matter the quality of my videos....am always blurry, It's a Beard thing? lol =)

  • great video again! I had noticed my vids are blurred too, i publish thro windows movie maker, does that make it worse??? nice shot of the church and cute ending on your cousins. I thought they were just more tourists!!! lol =)

  • OH! I just found out there's a button there to change the quality to 'High'. Much better, but takes longer to stream.
