this is a young bird, right? because I'm holding an grownup one in my hands right now (the poor thing has his wing broken) and you can clearly see the difference in them.
Let me reassure people who seem to think that this bird is sick/terrified/hungry/etc. It's having a sunbath. In this case she was having one on someone's arm, at other times she flew to the window herself and perched down spreading her wings and feathers until she had enough. They do it in the wild, too, so keep an eye out for them and you might see it. Anyway, again, this is not a pet: it's an orphaned bird we sheltered for a few months before setting it free in the wild to be with its kind.
Haha, excellent and interesting video, definitely a tad creepy! This seems like it might be ripe for being edited into one of those 'dramatic x' videos. Dramatic jackdaw!
Nothing creepy about it, he is sunbathing.. I own a crow and two starlings, they do the exact same thing. Jackdaws are probably the brightest of Corvids.
My crow goes berserk over coffee and tries bathing in it. We cannot drink it when he is around, he will dive into the cup. I think that hte tannin in the coffee may have the same effect as the "anting" that Corvids do. (Do not give him coffee, of course lol)
what do you feed him

Jackdaw: "Oh my god... just how much I drink last night? I think I'm gonna be sick."

It's communicating with aliens. Don't forget that birds are more evolved than us humans

Birds hold their mouth open when they are terrified- if you've had a caged bird who becomes ill you'll see this.

Birds do not have sweat glands. Similar to dogs, they open their mouths to regulate their body temperature.

I love jackdaws, I seem to have some on my roof... they wake me up in the morning by banging on my boiler pipe.
Nearly wet myself laughing at 0.27 though. That is the stupidest expression I have ever seen on an animal's face.
