  • I love this version

  • The La la la at the end is worth a hundred Cohen wonderful lyrics.

  • I like this cover, because it's done in the way Kris wrote the song, but no-one's ever done it with these feelings and emotions as good as Kris himself...

  • I love Gordon Lightfoot and this is a great cover. However, no one can do it better than the man himself ... Kris!

  • Does an body have this with the piano track? The single that I bought in 1970 had it; it really enhanced the whole thing. I lost (melted) mine and haven't been able to find it in 40 years of looking.

  • @shakeypitt It would appear that Lightfoot didn't like the piano track! That's probably why I can't find it any more.

  • "I'd give all my tomorrows for a single yesterday" Wouldn't we all?

  • best version ever..respects to Kris and Janis

  • Great cover. But it still a Kris Khristoperson song.

  • and that's Ry Cooder on bottleneck

  • This is way this song should be sung. Janis Joplin kind of beat it to death.

  • actually this was a treat! i was not aware that gordon ever recorded this.

  • @zendishwasher2 gordo didnt write it but he did the first recorded version of this song suprisngly he started as a jazz pianist then a jingle writter then switched to folk music

  • @spacepatrolman Roger Miller recorded it first.

  • @shakeypitt miller may have had a record out on it first but lightfoot made the first demo

  • @spacepatrolman When was that? Do you have a source?

  • @shakeypitt I dont know when that exactly was but the source is an article on gordon lightfoot which was not on the internet there are a lot of mistatements of fact on the internet

  • I've always liked this version. That line: 'With those windshield wipers slapping time, and Bobby clapping hands, we finally sung up every song that driver knew' - has a wonderful rhythm and rhyme (especially 'time' with 'fin....') and flow. Wish I'd written a line like that! Well done KK.

  • Gordon lightfoot is the man

  • amazing...wonderful cover of a rocksong

    love it :-)

  • Seriously why is there a dislike button for this video??

  • Thanks for uploading this song for fans of Gordon!

  • I love GL's original stuff, but this cover plus "The First Time Ever I saw Your Face" are two of my favorite covers of his.

  • so smooth....love this version.. Gordon is a true folk legend.

  • this is the good :)

  • BEAUTIFUL!! I'm not very keen on Gordon Lightfoot but I fell in love with his rendition - it's a gem. It has all the right sadness Janis lacked in her recording. After hearing this now I wonder whether she even understood the song.

  • @pinchold Hear hear! I don't know if she recorded it whilst she was shacked up with Kris, but it must have broken his heart.

  • I have a mint 45 rpm record of this song on the Reprise label. It's also a DJ copy.

    The best version, ever!

  • @rockinbolotie56 GROOVY!!

  • Lightfoot could take any song and make it a sound like a Lightfoot song, just as Waylon Jennings did, a voice that never changed for the song but took the song to the voice.

  • @msherer260 You describe Gordon's vioce perfectly. Excellent comment.

  • Umm... test.

  • Gordon Lightfoot was my all time favourite singer/ songwriter at a time when there were so many great talents. I've listened to several versions of this and to me this is still the BEST. Great to know, too, that Gordon is still singing and honoured in his native Canada. An awesome talent!

  • He is wonderful ....always looked a little cross with the world....but fantastic none the less, one of the all-time greats no question about it

  • This is a pretty good cover of an excellent Kris Kristofferson song. Janis Joplin screamed her way through it in a deep haze - in much the same way she did everything else. My favourite version of this was sung by Charlie Pride.

  • this is a very sweet version. i think it's the most touching one i've heard.

  • This is a great song, and a great cover, kris kirstofferson, is not one of my favourite, singers, but he has written some fantastic music.

  • So relaxed & a beautiful version of this lovely song, Gordon is a magic singer.I agree with betsydog

  • it is allright but janis joplin was better and KRIS KRISTOFFERSON WROTE IT AND STILL HAD THE BEST VERSION ALL TIME

  • Those who think this version is the best, please listen to the original Roger Miller version.

  • awesome version of an awesome song

    done CANADIAN STYLE!!!

  • G rocks~!!! (...age 74 and a lifelong fan~~!)

  • This is my favourite version of this song!

  • One of my all-time favourite albums....can't get enough of these songs. What a great lyricist.

  • beautiful super track mr lightfoot

  • Nobody does this song as well as Gordon does it. This guy wrote some

awesome songs for himself and other artists..

    He still rocks.

  • Written by the U.S. Army Helicopter Pilot (Captain) and Rhodes Scholar-Kris Kristofferson

  • This is a great version. Who is the original singer? I know I can easily check it out, but frankly I am too lazy.

  • @johnjohnmajortom i know i've heard janis joplin and kris kristofferson sing this. i love the tapping, snapping on this version. it has a good, faster beat too.

  • Listen to Charley Pride........

  • My favorite version of this great song. I'm surprised at how many folks have never heard the Lightfoot rendition.

  • The best version of all.:))))

  • This is my favorite version... and I heard it before Janis Joplin re-invented the song... I love Janis but I prefer this version by 1000x... the pain & regret of the lyrics seems so much stronger in this understated vocal...

  • @vootie99 I completely agree. Although I love the Janis version, there will never another version like this one. It is the first version I ever heard, and it is when I fell in love with the song. Love this version the most.

  • Some of the finest acoustic guitar backing on record. I seem to recall that Gordo's lead backer was Red Shea - and either he or Gordon played a lot of 12-string (maybe both)

  • nice voice& version near J Cash's one

  • I haven't heard this in ages. Thanks for posting it.

  • Well, don''t argue about who has the best version. Both are totally cool.

  • I like the song,no matter who sings it actually,I was named after that song.

  • Your name is Me? haha

  • LOL!!!!! HAHAHAHAHA,GOOD ONE

  • I agree with betsydog...but I like janis' version too!

  • I agree with you

  • love lucinda too...she should sing a version...

  • Best. Version. Ever. Period.

  • PERIOD!

  • EXCLAMATION POINT!

  • Gordon is a legend

    Gordon ist eine Legende
