I think trying to get people educated about herpes and informed is very important. My last ex broke up with me because he said he couldn't handle the idea of me having herpes. I told him after 3months we had been dating and we still hadn't have sex. Then we were having safe sex wearing condoms all the time. and after 6 months of dating he told me he couldn't handle it. I tried to get him educated about herpes but he didn't want to know anything else about it.

ah although its good that they are trying to get rid of the stigma, they make it way worse by showing that photo! I caught a cold sore when i was a baby off a stranger, and i have NEVER seen a cold sore that bad. ever. why would they show such an awful picture, that will only make people cringe and grimace, esentially making the situation worse?

I did the best I could damage control wise when they showed that lesion, to emphasize that it was definitely not typical of a typical HSV1 lesion. I can't answer why...other than one of the producers did tell me they wanted to scare people into being more responsible.

@22ForeStreet Ive gotten cold sores since I was little as well but never as BAD as the picture shown. I believe the pic that was shown was Herpes 2 and not Herpes1.

What gets me upset about this things is that they call it an STD when all u have to do is freaking kiss someone or touch someone and they can get it. I thought STDs are menat to be passed only through sex! There is quite a few people that are virgins that have Herpes 2!! This doesnt make sense to me.

I had a single sore that I thought was herpes, during the time I got tested I realized how much it can affect your life and I learned to accept it... it's not funny. Even though my tests came back negative, I wen through an emotional rollercoaster for a month and I concluded that it's not that big of a deal. There are much worse things in life than a few blisters. If I love a girl I wouldn't mind getting herpes from her.

i had sex with a girl about 6-7 months ago

and ive had a few outbreaks of rashes and rarely I get white bumps. Im pretty sure I have herpes but im getting checked tomorrow. I can live with it but I think I might have given it to someone else which makes me feel so bad.

If you've ever had a cold sore on your lip - you already have herpes. Not that big a deal really. It's the stigma that makes it hard for people. There are many worse things to have. But if you've ever kissed someone with a cold sore, or if they go down on you when they have one, you can end up with it down there too. You'd be very unlucky to catch it off the toilet seat - but then there are far worse things you can catch off a toilet seat so I wouldn't sitting on on them for other reasons.

By no means is herpes funny. Herpes is not something to make fun of, because it can really mess up a person's life. Imagine being ridiculed every time you go on a date or when you want to be in a relationship because you have something you can't control. Imagine that.

Think about it: Herpes is common right? Would you have sex with someone who had strange bumps on their genitals? probably not! Herpes is so common because people who appear to be clean( & even drop dead gorgeous )are spreading it. Looks can be decieving!
