Indeed Theo. I usually shoot a few seconds, get closer, shoot some more, get even closer, shoot, get closer, shoot, get closer until my actors decide not to cooperate any longer. Not that I blame them or anything. You can see the process best in case of the burnet moth. The only difference was that it wouldn't run, I just couldn't get any closer :)
Thanks sigma! The eye-catching guy is a burnet moth. It is also my favourite, I took an unusually long time filming it, because it seemed not to be afraid. Apparently, when you read more on the species, it turns out that it's got a rather lazy character and likes spending a lot of time just sitting in one spot. Yeah, and I thought it just liked me or wanted to take part in the movie...
Great shots! That Canon HF100 is a great cam eh? (that's what I'm using too) I love how it can focus down to an inch from the lens and with the mechanical/optical stabilization the picture is rock solid most of the time even without a tripod. Great job on this vid - you should post it as a response to one of my nature vids. :-)
Thanks jcmegabyte! It's great indeed! I've never regretted a penny spent on it! All those questions about additional lens when the original lens do their work just fine... :)
Thanks a lot testdasi! Your appreciation means a lot to me! Since I've decided on 25p a tripod was a must. I put it and the camcorder as close as it was possible, sometimes it required a lot of imagination on my part, as was in the case of one of the spiders - I had to put the tripod in the middle of a bush, luckily the spider didn't escape. No extra lens whatsoever, only UV filter to protect my HF100 original lens :)

This is better than amazing. How did you get so close? What lens did you use? Tripod?
