@queenzortje the car isn't polished.... the cylinder head is ported & polished, its for increased intake flow and reduced air turbulence for air/fuel intake (i shouldn't have to be explaining this) not only that I have a 319 cam and 90lb valve springs. the cam, furthermore has an increase lift (.009in.) for longer valve opening to endure the increased duration and hone extruded intake. BTW you can Google all of this and see it for your self, that stupid 8 series wouldn't stand a chance with me

Making some tiny 4-banger tacho 9000rpm is nothing, unless it's push rod engine (OHV). My previous car, 1989 Peugeot 205 1.9GTi revs easily 8500 with just new ECU. Some stock Hondas rev 9000rpm. Why you think BMW couldn't build engine like that too?
A little bit of the charm of these old supercars is the fact that they actually did 100km/h - 60mph in 1st gear. Of course this slowed the acceleration a bit but the 5 liter V12 had lots of torque that partly made up for it.

you can try... and if you succeed then every BMW Magazine in the world will be after the story :-) My guess is that it is impossible. You can fit e39 M5 S62 V8s into the engine bay, and a select few have actually been wired up to work ! Not worth the time or money IMO.... Very difficult to do.
The point being to achieve what? Granted, S70 gas mileage (especially at lower cruising speeds) is nothing to brag about, but apart from that I am happy with it.
@greekpoutsos wiring and fitting engines that were not meant for the car is a pain in the ass, it should be easier for cars that are from the same generation, but the M6 is like 3 generations newer, not only the electronics are totally different, the engine mounts are the ones you should be worried about.. lots of cutting and welding and cussing and swearing and buying and M6 in the end :) you could do this as a hobby though, if you own an autoservice :) cheers

so what is the hp diff. between the 4.0 and the 4.4 litre engine and were they both aluminum? also is the same 4.4 being used now in the x 5...since you know this much...
guys, the car is a 1997 4.4 M62 engined 840. They were made right up until 1999. HP is listed at 286bhp. Not the fastest thing in the world, but sure looks cool IMHO.
thanks m8. Since the video was uploaded I have lowered the car with Eibach Pro, and put 20mm wheel spacers on, along with bigger tyres. Looks even better now. Check out my iDrive retrofit with touchscreen video too, this car is almost modern now :-)
8 series bmw's are the best looking. even though that body style came out in the early 90's (1991 i think) they still look updated and can compete with todays cars looks. cant wait to get one!

@hanse81 infact the 850i gets to 100 in less than 6 seconds. thats barely slow (the 840 in standard form was resonably slugish though)

3chips, a 3.91 rear lim slip diff,Pilot tires on 17" FISKE rims, Kbars etc,and I drove it recently back to Missouri from Calif, WHAT A RIDE!, I was crossing the TEHACHAPI'S mtn's @ 3 am,Jousting with a new 500hp Mustang, snow was starting to line the roadside, 35 mph signs (when dry) were being passed at 60mph without effort, when my traction control light flickered? I'm slipping? didnt seem like it to me?

@poopsmashed Just then I seethe Mustangs lights spinning! I better slow down , maybe get a room for tonight on the pass, I got out of my 850 and almost couldnt walk to the motels door! it was crazy slippery! but that car was going 60 mph on pretty hard corners before the thing said yoo hoo, and I still never had the sensation of losing traction ever. My pals a Hwy trooper in Mo and we swapped cars and chased each other a few times! what a ball I always felt it would walk away and it did!!

This car is an athlete of world class calibre, I have driven an original 427 AC Cobra, Daytona, Dino Ferrari's Audis, Porches, Jags, Rolls, Benmtleys, who i might aadd used this same motor! and the e31 is my favorite real car to enjoy, everyone has a vettte or viper etc, this car brings out the attention far more than even a $400k Azure!

you can try... and if you succeed then every BMW Magazine in the world will be after the story :-) My guess is that it is impossible. You can fit e39 M5 S62 V8s into the engine bay, and a select few have actually been wired up to work ! Not worth the time or money IMO.... Very difficult to do.

The point being to achieve what? Granted, S70 gas mileage (especially at lower cruising speeds) is nothing to brag about, but apart from that I am happy with it.

@greekpoutsos wiring and fitting engines that were not meant for the car is a pain in the ass, it should be easier for cars that are from the same generation, but the M6 is like 3 generations newer, not only the electronics are totally different, the engine mounts are the ones you should be worried about.. lots of cutting and welding and cussing and swearing and buying and M6 in the end :) you could do this as a hobby though, if you own an autoservice :) cheers

yeah but yours has a thing that mine dose not have a better fuel consomption cause mine on the higway it dose 19mpg and in the city 13mpg wich is bad here in montreal cause the price of gas is around 1.40$.My father when he fueld up his Land Rover Discovery last week it costed nearly 200 bucks
But still they are both really good sports coupes.The 840ci and the 850csi.

yeah, kinda eased off after 60mph ! Might have to redo this video one day since it doesnt show the whole picture ab out this car. Prob get it to 13 or 14 secs. Not very fast, but ok.

guys, the car is a 1997 4.4 M62 engined 840. They were made right up until 1999. HP is listed at 286bhp. Not the fastest thing in the world, but sure looks cool IMHO.

thanks m8. Since the video was uploaded I have lowered the car with Eibach Pro, and put 20mm wheel spacers on, along with bigger tyres. Looks even better now. Check out my iDrive retrofit with touchscreen video too, this car is almost modern now :-)

8 series bmw's are the best looking. even though that body style came out in the early 90's (1991 i think) they still look updated and can compete with todays cars looks. cant wait to get one!

stock ratio is 2.93 Open Diff. Knocks 1.4s of 0-60mph. Top speed reduced from ~165mph to 145mph. I can live with that :-)

it's other way round. Fuel economy hit by 30% at least since the engine is revving higher at any given speed... but the trade off is a faster car :-)
