“We might have done nothing. That would have been utter ruin. Instead, we met the situation with proposals to private business and the Congress of the most gigantic program of economic defense and counter attack ever evolved in the history of the Republic.”
hoover seems right to me. Just becuase were used to socialist government manipulation doesnt mean its good. Seems like our government given 5 trillion of our money away didnt work to well. The union breaking has been rollin on for seventy years. One of many steps back our country has taken in the last century.
Hoover actually did a great deal to try to help people and improve the economy. He just didn't know what to do. This was a man of great acconplishments before 1929. It's unfortunate he's remembered this way.
i'm in the first year of my doctorate... i get the value of an education, but the notion that only educated people should earn a decent living is arrogant and unjustified.
Would you want someone to make more than you knowing you have more training and experiance. that is why i did not get my degree in baggage handling. i do think that they should get a decent wage but not more than you (who will have a doctorite in a few years) or other qualified people. You think it took the guys at Wal-Mart to get to the moon. No it was educated people with real degrees.
plenty of people with little education do things that people with doctorates can't. it's true that education and intelligence get you to the moon, rather than walmart but where do most people go most frequently? i'm not saying education is bad, i just don't think it is ALL. are autoworkers overpaid? perhaps, but i'm wondering more about the bankers et al. with their one hand out for freebies with their other hand on their millions in bonuses. are they worth it? i pick no.

Maddow just lost a viewer when she started spewing collectivism BS! She is like most school teachers out there that have no idea what happened in the Depression! She is choked up by this big government war train acting like the democrats are good and the republicans are bad.....WRONG! They are both statist bastards!
Great. Go back to Limbaugh. I guess you think it's fine to throw $700mmm at the banks but not loan $15mmm to the auto industry. Did the rethugs ask investment bank employees to take a salary cut? It's union-busting shock doctrine plain and simple.
First of all I hate Limbaugh. Second of all I do NOT think its good for the mafia government to throw money at ANYBODY! Second of all, government has oligopolized the auto industry for too long with taxes and regulations that sent jobs overseas and killed small business competition! I am NOT a stinking simply minded republican like Bush and Paulson who believe in supply-side economics or a stupid democrat who believes in demand-side economics. The union has destroyed the auto industry!
You have no idea what's going on! Herbert Hoover was in stark contrast to his secretary treasury Andrew Mellon who was a laissez-faire economist and went against his advice. FDR and Hoover turned the recession in a depression. The Institute and the Ludwig von Mises Institute are correct, the government monopoly education system is WRONG! Not my fault people rewrite history to adapted their collectivist programs! Wake up, Freddie and Fannie are GSEs!!! The auto industry is oligopolized!

that's just silly. you overestimate the value of education. there's all kinds of overpaid putzes with advanced degrees.

it is really sad that you do not value a good education...it is priceless

How is it that the GOP stops DEM legislation, but the DEMS didn't filibuster GOP legislation that often?
Deregulation and the Iraq War, for example.
