I wonder if these people do zone cooling in the summer with window units hanging out of every window.
Zone heating is a joke. Who wants to freeze to death going to the bathroom? If you want to be stuck in one room all the time and save money, you can sell your house and buy and RV. A lot less space to heat and cool.
a watt is a watt is a watt, Electrons are only going to do so much work! I have degrees in electronics, automation, and robotics. I have worked in the heating field (both in houses and aircraft) The Eden Pure hearter will cost you more to buy and not save you any money unless you do with less overall heat throughout your home! The best way to save on heating bills INSULATE CUALK SEAL! For good safe electric heat try the oil filled electric radiator, cheap to buy, nice steady (but slow) heat.
@A9L8R Now why would you say that? Seriously! What did I say that indicated any lack of understanding of efficiency? So, let me now be clear on efficiency. NOTHING is 100% efficient. With every process and every change in process you lose some energy. That having been siad let's look at some classic misunderstanding of what is and isn't more efficient. The electric motor is more efficient than the internal; combustion engine and yet cars run more efficiently using a ICE than with an electric!
@TSElmore "NOTHING is 100% efficient", so a watt may be a watt, but converting that watt to joule is not going to be the same from one type of heater to the next, because again "NOTHING is 100% efficient" and efficiencies vary from process to process. Get it?
@A9L8R please make a definitive statement! Are you saying that the eden pure heater is more efficient than . . what? It isn't more effiecient, and certainly not enought to offset the purchase price. Do you even know how the EdenPure works? I don't believe the hype or the commercials. I have worked in heating and air condioning and when it comes to turning electrons into heat the EdenPure has a bit of a twist on exchanging the heat to a copper tube then to forced air but it isn't worth it!
@A9L8R Electric heaters are all 100% efficient because when something is inefficient the waste product is heat, and all other forms of energy eventually become heat. Turn on 15 100 watt light bulb in a room with no or covered windows, they produce light, and a lot of heat. The light then gets absorbed by objects in the room and becomes... more heat. End result, after an hour you got the same 5120BTUs from those light bulbs as you would have from a standard 1500 watt heater.
@A9L8R It works the same for fans, turn on 15 100 watt box fans in a room, you get the heat off of the motors directly, then the friction from the moving air rubbing on the fan blades, other air, and objects in the room all becomes heat too. Once again you end up with the same amount of heat as a 1500 watt heater, and a very windy room LOL.
Here is what I think, If you have small or stupid children then buy an edenpure. I know I was a stupid child. I could have started a fire with an edenpure. Ok, back to it, If you have a household of relatively resposible people of age save your money and go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get the cheapest model you like. From the smallest to the tallest all are 1500 watts and if you can stand the noise level (try it before, buy it) you got it whooped. I have electric heat so no money will be saved.
Wrong wrong wrong. It is not the 80's or 90's which is about when your mind stopped functioning. Electronics are far superior now which is why this infrared heater is out. It is a byproduct of new electronic assembly equipment, quality components. Keeping up with electronics to this dufus is like keeping up with the kardashians. First you don't need a fan with this heater because quartz bulbs, infrared, casts heat, thru both the air and walls, furnature, everything withing a good sized radius
@chips24811 What is you're expertise in electronics? I'm degreed and experienced and the electron has NOT changed! a watt is a watt is a watt! You are right about not needing a fan with this unit, IT HAS ONE BUILT IN! As for the infrared, this is a misused term. There is no such thing as infrared heat (a good indicator that the ads are bogus) The Eden pure hearter uses quartz bulbs that produce infrared light and "radiant" heat that heats a copper tube that heats air forced by a fan.
Bob Vila is a joke. In the infomercial he is in a home where the heating ducts have no insulation. What moron would do this? I live in Ga and mine are wrapped. The only place I see duct work like they have is in an office building or in a room that is already heated, taking heat to an upper floor. I love watching the infomercial though. They make it sound real good. $20.00 heater at family dollar or cheaper and you will be just as pleased. I'll stick with the gas furnace.
@jumpinggulley Well said! the best money spend in heating is always insulation! dollar for dollar coal is cheapest most effective heat but who wants to mess with that. Natural gas is best all around!!
@Ricky251985 you might want to look into an oil-filled electric radiator, about $40.00 they are safe and produce slow steady heat! You do have to be patient with these things, they do not produce a lot of high intense heat. The trick is to get the temp stabilitized and let them work steadily at a low setting. They have three power settings and are good for a 12' x 12' room,
Nice common sense review. My mother is stuck on believing the eden pure is saving her money. Well, now she not only has a gas furnace bill, but a bigger electric bill too. No money saved. She'd be better off running some small whisper fans to circulate the furnace heat better.
watts is watts doesnt matter the size or type of heating element.those little cubes pump out 1500 watts the same as a 1500 baseboard or 1500 watt radiant!
I agree 100%, Great Video, The general consumer is so stupid and they fall for alll these so called manufacturers claims. People need to wake up, these big companes out there are taking advantage of the un-informed consumer, they're raking in billions of dollars off that poor soul looking to get a little exra heat and fall for this and any other device they can get you to spend your hard earned money on. I am one of the 99% and I'm tired of supporting the 1%, enough is enough.
You are correct the 1500 watt heater put out the same heat...and no electric heater dries the air or burns up oxygen...I have been a HVAC professional for 15 years...save your money..by the cheaper heater...why do you think they have to sell the eden pure with an infomercial...and who do you think pays that cost of putting on the infomercial?
One 1500 watt heater can not be more efficient than another. What you put in, you get out. Simple physics. Energy can't be created or destroyed, only transformed.
I agree with this man. He's taken the time to do his research, which I find valid. Bob Vila constantly hawks the energy savings of this gadget while ignoring the cost of your electrical bill to run these things to heat an entire house, 24/7. It ain't free. And the Eden Pure is extremely expensive. I love my little $69. Vornado heater. It's cheap, quiet, safe, and heats my entire office perfectly. TV equals hype. Don't buy into it.
I actually have a small cube heater like the one you show on this video. It has a thermostat that reduces the output as the room gets warmer. If I close the door in my 12x13 home office it get nice and warm and in fact too warm sometimes. I have had it for years and as I recall, paid about $25 for it.
The Edenpure is a crock. It converts electricity into heat as do all electric resistance heaters. It's grossly overpriced and hyped by Bob Villa because they pay him a bunch of money to prostitute himself. He must be desperate for money.
you may use less gas or oil or LP but I`m sure you will use more electric with ANY type of electric heater......So where is the savings?......ask your self that!
I also am quite confused.. I own a Gen 4 and it seems to work very nice... but not sure that a cheap one might do the same.. I think it wins on safety and maybe something about not burning the oxygen in the room as much as a cheap one..one might also consider the cost of natural gas or propane as opposed to electricity.. i can honestly say it is a very even heat... seems to me 1500 watts out should be the same on either... I honestly like mine and not sure if I got taken or not...thanks... Stan
thanks i saw that infomercial where the guy had to get a new gasmeter beacuse the eden pure saved him so much on naturl gas well any way i dont see how 1500 watts can equal 300 dollars in natural gas unless hey stays in a closrt
I dont know much about the eden but i looked at 1 today and it says it heats 1000sq ft. So thats most of a house in most cases. Does the cube heat that much?
I don't know why this guy is getting slammed. He seems to be a very fair, thorough, level-headed guy just conducting his own tests. I found it highly enlightening when he pointed out that Eden Pure's slick advertising campaign compared their 50% energy savings pitch to your "heating bill" only, NOT on your electric bill!!! Eden Pure, let's hear your comments on THAT.
Heater is heater, no matter of dimensions. Light is light, unless it produce too much heat as byproduct.
It is bad if heater produce light, or radio-waves as byproduct - then efficiency may be lower.
I am not arguing against use of chemical energy for heating - such thing is _so_ natural. And, as long as it doesn't produce nasty toxic byproducts, it is okay to use it too.
Green plants need CO2,. Water vapor will be condensed in clouds, then will fall to ground - again green plants need it.
Kudos to you for sticking to your guns and exposing scam artistry at it's best! Heck, they even use the Amish in the commercials......folks who don't even use electricity.
The media is such a powerful tool, it really highlights the fact that there are a lot of "sheep" out there. Scary really. Keep up the good work!
@innov8tive1 Bingo! It is rare to see such good comments here on YouTube. I hate commercials and media, I love scientific books and good documentaries. But good documentaries are very rare on the TV.
So, it is much better to turn off TV, and turn on your own brain.
Thanks to the internet, one is free to chose WHAT to watch, and WHEN. Only problem that the same people who made commercials on the TV program - made so much ads, advertising and commercials on the internet too. Just skip ads...
you state (several times i might add) that there is no difference between the edenpure and others but at the 1:00 mark you state that there is difference with safety.
Shouldn't safety be taken into consideration when buying a space heater?
@tiprodoc He was also referring to the difference between HEAT OUTPUT & ENERGY INPUT 00:15 mark - that was his main argument! Then he goes on to talk about safety, etc. I wish people would listen.
Thanks for the clip -- it makes sense. I have a small Black & Decker heater (not plugging B&D, they're basically all the same) from the stone age and it works okay but dries out the air because of the fan. I use one of those standup oil-filled heaters in my bedroom and it works great in a small room that doesn't need fan circulation AND it doesn't make any noise! As for saving money, I wonder if it would help to use a humidifier.
@Zuppos123 stick a fan behind your heater on low speed you'll use more electric but the extra heat will be worth it. Heaters with glowing coils and ceramics that reach high enough temps do burn off oxygen and extract moisture people with breathing issues should be aware of these facts, Its the same as lighting a match burns O2 the degree of temperature is the variant.
@countryfunkinbunkin By definition, every electric space heater is always exactly 100% efficient, because 100% of the electricity used is converter to heat.
Placing a fan behind is NOT going to heat the room for less electricity.
The laws of nature state that you can not create or destroy energy, you can only convert it.
Every space heater converts electricity to heat, and they all are exactly 100% efficient at it.
@a1mint I understand what your saying. Considering there are losses involved from poor insulation I figured there might be some advantage to using one heater over another but perhaps your correct.
@a1mint you won't get any argument from me Eden Pure is shady. Now I have an oil filled electric radiate heater. Which when I place a fan behind it on low it drive the heater more because the room air being blown across the coils causes the heater to work harder. If the room becomes warmer with the fan behind it, how can I get more heat and not use more energy. 100% Efficient I don't buy that the circuitry that covert electrical into heat the quality surely make performance differences
@countryfunkinbunkin First of all, keep things clear in your mind about energy in general. End of day this rule always applies: you convert electricity to heat. Warmer room, more electricity used. There is absolutely no way to heat a room to a warmer temperature with the same amount of electricity. There is absolutely no way to heat a room to the same temperature with less electricity.
@countryfunkinbunkin Now that heater that you're using. I think the oil radiator type is an excellent choice because there isn't anything exposed that will cause a fire, like a piece of paper hitting something glowing for instance. The heat is distributed across the radiator, so I think it's one of the safer types.
If it has a thermostat built in, then placing a fan behind it, could cause the heater to run with less breaks. It will then produce more heat and use more electricity as such.
@countryfunkinbunkin Many of them don't have a thermostat, and just a dial. That dial often just determines how long it runs and how long of a break to take, so to say. In that case, a fan will not change anything.
But back to your assumption: "how can I get more heat and not use more energy" - that is not possible.
Respond to this video... I agree Eden Pure is very misleading and can be called a scam from their claims. It is safe around children and some may be willing to pay the price for the fireplace look and the Amish cabinet has some value.
Yet I wouldn't buy one. An oil filled electric powered radiate heater should hold heat longer than copper coils. Your video convinced me away from considering purchasing one.
@countryfunkinbunkin My old neighbor had one of those oil filled heaters and it seemed to work pretty good except that it needed to be turned on for a while before it warmed up her apartment. One advantage of a fan driven heater is you can put it directly in front of you and get instant heat.
@kdaveem Yes, it seems that it needs to work longer before starting to see a benefit. That's because all that metal and oil needs to be heated up. It doesn't take all that long.
Don't forget that when you turn it off, it continues to give off heat for a bit before cooling down.
End of day is that it has the exact same efficiency as any other electric space heater.
I think the oil radiator types are one of the best choices, mostly for safety, and no noise.
There is no need to test it. You can count on the laws of nature to apply here, that state that you can not create or destroy energy, only convert it.
A heater converts electricity into heat.
More heat, more electricity. Less electricity, less heat.
There is no such thing as one heater being more efficient than another. It is not possible.
@countryfunkinbunkin Complete and utter HOGWASH. How you ignorant creep barf up the bullshit nonsense you do with a straight face is beyond comprehension.
Here are some FACTS for you to wrap your head around:
Watts = Voltage * Amps
Amps = Voltage / Resistance
Ohm's law !
So the fact REMAINS: Eden Pure heaters are SCAM SCAM SCAM - in your FACE - SCAM !
@a1mint so I may be wrong but since your all defensive E = voltage, impedance is ohms which directly equates to amperage, power = wattage and you get P = I x E. If amps =voltage x resistance isn't impedance the same. Its been quite a while since I took the course but the formula stands I wasn't defending Eden Pure the [posters right but you want to challenge the free electron theory by saying my statements hogwash. good luck with that.
@countryfunkinbunkin We're in a video about a scam product. The manufacturer claims things that are not possible. What they are doing is illegal, because there are laws about knowingly making fraudulent claims.
I'm here to do my bit on making damn well sure that these types of companies do not get away with it.
Yes, I'm defensive. I'm right out edgy. And that is because in my efforts I'm running in to scammer after scammer.
FACT: 100% of the electricity used is converter to heat, ALWAYS.
i purchased an E P heater. had it for 1 day! sending it back! they are chargeing me 15% of $400 to ship back to cover thier shipping to me and to repack for re-sale! RIP-OFF is RIGHT!!!! I'll stick with my ceramic heaters!!!!!
I have had an Eden Pure for several years. It does everything they claim BUT it does not save money. It is still quite costly to run and is no cheaper.
@hennypennycrafts That means that it does *NOT* do everything they claim it does.
What is does NOT do is save you 50% on your heating electricity consumption.
It is not possible for one heater to heat more with the same amount of electricity, because by definition always exactly and precisely 100% of the electricity used is converter into heat.
I didn't like Bob Vila on this old house. He has mexicans come over to do his work. What has he done to make people believe he knows what he is talking about?
@jumpinggulley Bob Villa is engaged with a fraudulent company making fraudulent claims. He can and should get sued over this. He is lying. Perhaps he's too ignorant to understand it and might get away with it, but this EdenPure company needs to be stopped - THEY are the ones lying and scamming people by making false claims.
And another point is that they mentioned it heats the Objects, and Etc, it still uses a fan, to push the heat out from the heat transfer plates inside, if you look up most infared heaters, they are for use inside and out, and with no change with wind, if this thing uses a fan to blow hot air out, then i think its no diff then a hyped electric heater, box or whatever, look up a Infared heater in LOWES,, sealed beam, unaffected by wind, indoor or outdoor use, and heats the Objects, not the air.
This is just like that So called Miracle heater, with the Amish made mantle. supposed to keep you very warm and etc, that was only 5,000 btu output, both are just electric heaters, only difference is your not heating the WHOLE house by turning on the House furnace, Just Zoned heating, in a room your in, which Yeah it can save your heating bills IF you do that, its a matter of everyone calculating your use, and figure which way to go with it,..
@LaRezNar A small cube size heater can be found at most of the stores that sell heaters. It's not called a cube heater. That was just the word I used to describe a small heater. I think they all put out about the same heat regardless of the size,
Infrared heaters suck !!!! in live in Dawson Creek B.C Canada and i am Very Very Cold ! Got a brand new $ 400. infrared heater last nite, turn it up full temp and we are Very Very cold still after 12 hours !!!!!! Not a happy customer . The living well company portable platinum furnace is a JOKE !!!!!!!!!!!!
The general public are complete sheep when it comes to the latest "hype gadgets" with all of their misleading claims. Guys like this are absolutely awesome at cutting through the bullshit and telling the people the truth. I think I will go ahead and get a regular coil and fan space heater and save a hundred bucks or so. Thank you for posting this!
@FiberMania Your statement, "The General public are complete sheep..." is ignorant, makes no sense & has no basis in reality. It is only an assumption based upon incomplete data and NOT fact. Did you interview the entire populace? And, are you not also a member of the very same general public that you denigrate & therefore a sheep as well? Now, had you said, "Some persons are complete sheep..." well, that would make sense because it's highly likely. But I do agree with the rest of your comment.
electric heaters all burn the same amount of energy. if you put in 10 dollars you will get 10 worth of heat. nothing less, nothing more. only difference is i did'nt spend 400 dollars. spent 12 bucks on a walgreens humidifier and 20 bucks on a space heater. seems to work quite well without having bob vila rip me off.
another scam gone wild. if you shut your furnace off and only heat one room of course you can save money. electric heat cost more than gas. I like to keep my whole house warm. not one room. edenpure is a bunch of crap. I am a heating and air condioning contractor. don't buy this heater. it's a ripoff.
@TheLizardKing1967 Zone heating can save you money using any kind of electric heater. If you tried using a fan driven 20.00 cube heater I think you might be surprised.
@TheLizardKing1967 As the gentlemen said in his honest video. If one compares the cost of keeping one room reasonably warm rather than heating an entire home to about 70 to 75, the savings are going to happen regardless of which electric heater one uses. Think of it this way. Is it cheaper to fill a mall with air, or a car? Obviously - it's cheaper to fill the car because the car is smaller. It comes down to something called VOLUME! I'm talking about measurement, not sound volume.
Hi, and thanks for taking the time to do this comparison. During your test you mention they both raise the temp equally and use the same amount of power. How long was the test run? My understanding is the eden is not suppose to have to run as long as other heaters due to the internal copper holding heat longer after shut off. This would mean less time running and longer heat dispersant. What is your thought on that. Thanks for the posting.
@supergooddeal It's been quite a while since I ran my test but I think each test was under a half hour and I don't remember the Eden Pure heater cycling off at any time during my test. I have wondered about all those factors as well.
Thanks for the quick reply. Does the eden have a thermostat so it will shut off at a certain temp or is it just a timer? I think I have a fool proof test for you. Put the eden in a room that is around say 65 degrees. Heat it to 75 degrees and shut it off and leave the eden in the room. Then record the time it takes for the room temp to get back to 65.
Now do the same exact test with the other unit starting at 65 degrees. I feel like I'm on an episode of Mythbusters or should I say (wish I was).
@supergooddeal I thought my first two tests were scientific enough to satisfy my own curiosity. When it comes to heat and electricity the principle known as conservation of energy seems to apply. Energy can not be created or destroyed with the exception of Gods creation. I realize the Eden pure claims their heater can do better than a conventional heater by storing up heat on a copper sheet but it didn't seem to pan out.
I understand, but in your first 2 test's you did not see how long a room would stay warm after the unit was shut off compared to similar units. This test would prove once and for all if it was more or less energy efficient. I figure with all the other great test's why not my idea. Finally put an end to all the nasty comments from the people who think this thing is so wonderful. I back you a 100% with what you have done so far. Please put my curiosity to rest. I don't own one to do this.
@supergooddeal I'd say the answer is that the cycling changes due to the necessity to heat up the mass of copper, i.e the first off cycle can be expected to be delayed in order to do so. Then the length of the off period is longer as the copper is giving off it's acquired heat. End result: It's a wash, absolutely and scientifically. There is no extra heat from magic copper delivered to a room that an owner doesn't pay for.
Thank you for the video. FYI, your test basically verified the conservation of energy law so I know your test was done correctly. If 1500W of electrical power goes into any heater, 1500W of heat is generated--no exceptions.
For that matter, you can get three of 400W halogen torch lamps and keep your TV on for a constant 1500W of heat going into the room to get the same exact amount of heating for the exact same electric costs.
@PaperProphet Eden Pure claims that by heating a sheet of copper they get a greater efficiency due to storing some of the heat in their heat exchanger, but I suspect your correct about the conservation of energy principle applying here.
all this "talk" makes me LOOOVVVEEEE my wood burning fireplace that keeps me so so warm ... 1 day to chop all the wood I need for the winter = a nice and cozy warm winter for FREEEEE XD
I saw the TV infomercial for this heater and they did an animation of how it works and it has 3 chambers inside with a 500W 115VAC heater in each one. you do the math. Personally I would just stick with the cube heater b/c you can get them dirt cheap at walmart vs 700 bucks for the edenpure and they both do the same thing. the electric fireplace heater that supposedly the amish make has the same problem. and the amish dont even use electricity.
you are assuming that both heaters draw 1500 watt all of the time. I know that is not the case with the small ceramic heaters. Once they reach the desired temperature, the heating element kicks off as the fan stays running. I know this because i would occasionally have to flip my breakers when using my electric stove and ceramic heater.maybe, the edenpure's heating element stays warmer longer. Just because a fan is blowing on the edenpure doesn't necessarily mean that it's drawing 1500 watts
I'm in Denver in a condo with a central heating system that runs on gas. In winter I keep my home at 68 degrees and wear warm clothes. I tried to save money by buying a space heater to heat only my bedroom and allow the rest of the house to go to 50 degrees before the gas furnance fired. This was actually more expensive as electricity seems to cost much more than gas. So, I put the space heater in the bathroom and set the gas heater back on 68 degrees. Next I'll try electric shoes.
Thanks for posting your review on this product. I was thinking about buying one but now I got to do a lot more research before I go out and spend 400+.
Electric heaters are 100% efficient, but, electricity is going to cost more than natural gas to heat one room. A gas furnace, or if you can swing it, an air to air heat pump will be your best bet. Electric heaters don't put out carbon monoxide.
I have a ceramic heather wich works great. I also have a Eden pur heater as well. Does one outheat the other?? NO....But this is why i like the Edenpure better. If i take the ceramic heater into bedroom shut the door for the night..guess what? I'm stuffed up the next morning from the dried out air. My Edenpure doesn't do this to me...$400. dollars well spent!!! Get a programmable thermostat along with any space heater and you can save money. I have save a ton.
I wish Eden Pure heaters ran their commercial based on what your saying rather than claiming it's going to save people money. I have also noticed feeling fatigued after being in front of my space heater for extended periods of time.
@LLostSoul1976 you'd get the same results with a oil filled electric (radiate heat) I put a fan behind mine on low if its real cold and the heats going to be on most of the time. On lower thermostat settings the unit shuts down and the fan isn't linked to it. Hey let me tell you I'm glad to find you guys on here I was tempted to try an Eden pure so thanks to you and the maker of this video. My little oil filled electric purchased at a flea market for next to nothing works great.

I am a heating and cooling mechanic and have several customers on my route that have bought these and they love them. Makes me wonder if I'm not doing my job properly lol.
But in most cases your furnace/heat pump is doing all it can do (if tuned up properly with proper ductwork) and the structure of the house is usually the culprit for cold/hot rooms.
Eden Pure = rip off. they look like nice heaters and all. BUT for the price they want. you got suckered. they just try to scare you into buying it by saying shit like "regular heaters BURN the AIR... a cheap heater with 100% effieticy will work just as well. Eden Pure sucks! 12 cents for an hour of 1000 watts here.
The cost to keep a room warm is considerable less than when using radiant heat and the room feels more comfortable. This is a cheap and effective experiment so do not take my word for it, try it. You will be amazed, and you will have made your own infrared heater for a fraction of the cost that the manufacturers charge.
This will not cost very much but it will make a very effective room heater. You will experience the "soft" heat that edenpure advertises. The room upto 1000 sq ft. will be warmed from ceiling to floor very evenly. no hot spots or cold spot after it has been operating for some time. Improve the design by adding a thermostat, and Iron pipe for the bulbs to heat and the air to blow over.
You are measuring apples and oranges and therefore coming up with false conclusions. The name of the product is immaterial. Try this mount 6 250 watt infrared bulbs on a platform, enclose them in a metal box with openings for inlet air and outlet air and blow a fan over them.
Simple Solution: Go buy the infrared quartz heater w/ remote at walmart - similiar to eden pure or iheater. If it doesn't work like its suppose to - take it back & get a full refund. (good job Dave)
Dave, I Commend you on your effort to inform people about the fact the eden pure heater will not heat their home any better than the average $20 space heater. Anyone who understands basic electronic theory knows without doing any testing that you're not going to get any higher output from either heater with a consumption of 1500 watts input. It is simply a scam to take advantage of those who don't know any better. Someone would have to be out of their mind to pay $400 for the eden pure heater!
In spite of what you and both I know about the basic laws of physics Vs the Eden Pure Heater claims, these heaters have been selling like Hot Cakes because of the false advertising. Its been difficult to convince some of the people who sell these heaters to realize they don't work as some claim.
@kdaveem , I agree with both you and tatormonster. Sure, you may save money on your heating bill, but then again, your electric goes up. you can't win. 1500 watts compared to 1500 watts is going to give you almost the same results.
i think your test is right on the money this is very important to a lot of people who, like me are trying to find ways to reduce heating cost. i live in ontario canada and it gets very cold here. thanks for your test.
And you say that you don't know about heaters burning up the air. Why don't you try doing a test with a humidity tester. Other electric heaters take out all the humidity in the air which is bad for your breathing. A good humidity level is between 40 to 60 percent.
I can't believe how dumb you people are, saying that this heater doesn't work. I bought one on Ebay and it heats my entire living room area which is about 900 square feet. All you need is a temperature and humidity gauge. Using a humidifier works if its too low. Ceiling fans help too. This heater works more like a furnace.
I have on ,but the only advantage that I see is that the outside of it does not get hot. Got it on a 60 day trial basis.I will probably be sending it back. I will stick with my cheap oil filled plug in radiators ;they are just as safe and give of more heat.
The absolute funniest thing about their claims that you can save on your heating bill, is that they ignore "scale". When I've posted comments on other videos that tout these heaters' alleged savings, they all reply the same way. "This is NOT intended to heat your entire home." What I wonder is...how stupid do they think people are? If it can heat ONE ROOM for LESS MONEY than what folks are using now, then at what point CAN'T IT heat for less money? The answer should be very obvious. ;-)
You don't tell anyone about your test on the heater. What size room did you test it in? Where was the heater placed in the room? If you're going to do a test, then tell exactly how you did it. I believe you are being biased.
well eden pure claims that their heater can heat the room that you are in, and if you go to another room that the heat will follow you because the heat is attracted to the humidity that your body puts off. I for one dont believe that it's possible. Whats your take on it?

I wonder if these people do zone cooling in the summer with window units hanging out of every window.
Zone heating is a joke. Who wants to freeze to death going to the bathroom? If you want to be stuck in one room all the time and save money, you can sell your house and buy and RV. A lot less space to heat and cool.

@TSElmore You must have fallen asleep in class when the professor discussed efficiency.
A9L8R 2 weeks ago
@A9L8R Now why would you say that? Seriously! What did I say that indicated any lack of understanding of efficiency? So, let me now be clear on efficiency. NOTHING is 100% efficient. With every process and every change in process you lose some energy. That having been siad let's look at some classic misunderstanding of what is and isn't more efficient. The electric motor is more efficient than the internal; combustion engine and yet cars run more efficiently using a ICE than with an electric!
TSElmore 2 weeks ago
@A9L8R So please enlighten us.
TSElmore 2 weeks ago
@TSElmore "NOTHING is 100% efficient", so a watt may be a watt, but converting that watt to joule is not going to be the same from one type of heater to the next, because again "NOTHING is 100% efficient" and efficiencies vary from process to process. Get it?
A9L8R 2 weeks ago
@A9L8R please make a definitive statement! Are you saying that the eden pure heater is more efficient than . . what? It isn't more effiecient, and certainly not enought to offset the purchase price. Do you even know how the EdenPure works? I don't believe the hype or the commercials. I have worked in heating and air condioning and when it comes to turning electrons into heat the EdenPure has a bit of a twist on exchanging the heat to a copper tube then to forced air but it isn't worth it!
TSElmore 2 weeks ago
@A9L8R Electric heaters are all 100% efficient because when something is inefficient the waste product is heat, and all other forms of energy eventually become heat. Turn on 15 100 watt light bulb in a room with no or covered windows, they produce light, and a lot of heat. The light then gets absorbed by objects in the room and becomes... more heat. End result, after an hour you got the same 5120BTUs from those light bulbs as you would have from a standard 1500 watt heater.
danielthechskid 2 days ago
@A9L8R It works the same for fans, turn on 15 100 watt box fans in a room, you get the heat off of the motors directly, then the friction from the moving air rubbing on the fan blades, other air, and objects in the room all becomes heat too. Once again you end up with the same amount of heat as a 1500 watt heater, and a very windy room LOL.
danielthechskid 2 days ago

First you don't need a fan with this heater because quartz bulbs, infrared, casts heat, thru both the air and walls, furnature, everything withing a good sized radius
chips24811 3 weeks ago

Ricky251985 3 weeks ago

Stan

princez413 4 months ago
Heater is heater, no matter of dimensions. Light is light, unless it produce too much heat as byproduct.
It is bad if heater produce light, or radio-waves as byproduct - then efficiency may be lower.
I am not arguing against use of chemical energy for heating - such thing is _so_ natural. And, as long as it doesn't produce nasty toxic byproducts, it is okay to use it too.
Green plants need CO2,. Water vapor will be condensed in clouds, then will fall to ground - again green plants need it.

Zuppos123 11 months ago
@Zuppos123 stick a fan behind your heater on low speed you'll use more electric but the extra heat will be worth it. Heaters with glowing coils and ceramics that reach high enough temps do burn off oxygen and extract moisture people with breathing issues should be aware of these facts, Its the same as lighting a match burns O2 the degree of temperature is the variant.
countryfunkinbunkin 11 months ago
@countryfunkinbunkin By definition, every electric space heater is always exactly 100% efficient, because 100% of the electricity used is converter to heat.
Placing a fan behind is NOT going to heat the room for less electricity.
The laws of nature state that you can not create or destroy energy, you can only convert it.
Every space heater converts electricity to heat, and they all are exactly 100% efficient at it.
Eden Pure is a SCAM !
a1mint 11 months ago 2
@a1mint I understand what your saying. Considering there are losses involved from poor insulation I figured there might be some advantage to using one heater over another but perhaps your correct.
kdaveem 11 months ago
@a1mint you won't get any argument from me Eden Pure is shady. Now I have an oil filled electric radiate heater. Which when I place a fan behind it on low it drive the heater more because the room air being blown across the coils causes the heater to work harder. If the room becomes warmer with the fan behind it, how can I get more heat and not use more energy. 100% Efficient I don't buy that the circuitry that covert electrical into heat the quality surely make performance differences
countryfunkinbunkin 11 months ago
@countryfunkinbunkin First of all, keep things clear in your mind about energy in general. End of day this rule always applies: you convert electricity to heat. Warmer room, more electricity used. There is absolutely no way to heat a room to a warmer temperature with the same amount of electricity. There is absolutely no way to heat a room to the same temperature with less electricity.
a1mint 11 months ago 6
@countryfunkinbunkin Now that heater that you're using. I think the oil radiator type is an excellent choice because there isn't anything exposed that will cause a fire, like a piece of paper hitting something glowing for instance. The heat is distributed across the radiator, so I think it's one of the safer types.
If it has a thermostat built in, then placing a fan behind it, could cause the heater to run with less breaks. It will then produce more heat and use more electricity as such.
a1mint 11 months ago 2
@countryfunkinbunkin Many of them don't have a thermostat, and just a dial. That dial often just determines how long it runs and how long of a break to take, so to say. In that case, a fan will not change anything.
But back to your assumption: "how can I get more heat and not use more energy" - that is not possible.
a1mint 11 months ago 3
Respond to this video... I agree Eden Pure is very misleading and can be called a scam from their claims. It is safe around children and some may be willing to pay the price for the fireplace look and the Amish cabinet has some value.
Yet I wouldn't buy one. An oil filled electric powered radiate heater should hold heat longer than copper coils. Your video convinced me away from considering purchasing one.
countryfunkinbunkin 11 months ago
@countryfunkinbunkin My old neighbor had one of those oil filled heaters and it seemed to work pretty good except that it needed to be turned on for a while before it warmed up her apartment. One advantage of a fan driven heater is you can put it directly in front of you and get instant heat.
kdaveem 11 months ago
@kdaveem Yes, it seems that it needs to work longer before starting to see a benefit. That's because all that metal and oil needs to be heated up. It doesn't take all that long.
Don't forget that when you turn it off, it continues to give off heat for a bit before cooling down.
End of day is that it has the exact same efficiency as any other electric space heater.
I think the oil radiator types are one of the best choices, mostly for safety, and no noise.
a1mint 11 months ago
There is no need to test it. You can count on the laws of nature to apply here, that state that you can not create or destroy energy, only convert it.
A heater converts electricity into heat.
More heat, more electricity. Less electricity, less heat.
There is no such thing as one heater being more efficient than another. It is not possible.
a1mint 11 months ago
@a1mint your only half right impedance of a circuit or resistance is the third factor P = I x E so a heaters makeup can effect performance.
countryfunkinbunkin 11 months ago
@countryfunkinbunkin Complete and utter HOGWASH. How you ignorant creep barf up the bullshit nonsense you do with a straight face is beyond comprehension.
Here are some FACTS for you to wrap your head around:
Watts = Voltage * Amps
Amps = Voltage / Resistance
Ohm's law !
So the fact REMAINS: Eden Pure heaters are SCAM SCAM SCAM - in your FACE - SCAM !
a1mint 11 months ago
@a1mint so I may be wrong but since your all defensive E = voltage, impedance is ohms which directly equates to amperage, power = wattage and you get P = I x E. If amps =voltage x resistance isn't impedance the same. Its been quite a while since I took the course but the formula stands I wasn't defending Eden Pure the [posters right but you want to challenge the free electron theory by saying my statements hogwash. good luck with that.

@TheLizardKing1967 He DID explain that! You could have done that with a $50 cube heater that may likely last longer.
skidancin 1 year ago
@TheLizardKing1967 As the gentlemen said in his honest video. If one compares the cost of keeping one room reasonably warm rather than heating an entire home to about 70 to 75, the savings are going to happen regardless of which electric heater one uses. Think of it this way. Is it cheaper to fill a mall with air, or a car? Obviously - it's cheaper to fill the car because the car is smaller. It comes down to something called VOLUME! I'm talking about measurement, not sound volume.
VideoGuyNC 1 year ago
Hi, and thanks for taking the time to do this comparison. During your test you mention they both raise the temp equally and use the same amount of power. How long was the test run? My understanding is the eden is not suppose to have to run as long as other heaters due to the internal copper holding heat longer after shut off. This would mean less time running and longer heat dispersant. What is your thought on that. Thanks for the posting.
supergooddeal 1 year ago
@supergooddeal It's been quite a while since I ran my test but I think each test was under a half hour and I don't remember the Eden Pure heater cycling off at any time during my test. I have wondered about all those factors as well.
kdaveem 1 year ago
Thanks for the quick reply. Does the eden have a thermostat so it will shut off at a certain temp or is it just a timer? I think I have a fool proof test for you. Put the eden in a room that is around say 65 degrees. Heat it to 75 degrees and shut it off and leave the eden in the room. Then record the time it takes for the room temp to get back to 65.
Now do the same exact test with the other unit starting at 65 degrees. I feel like I'm on an episode of Mythbusters or should I say (wish I was).
supergooddeal 1 year ago
@supergooddeal I thought my first two tests were scientific enough to satisfy my own curiosity. When it comes to heat and electricity the principle known as conservation of energy seems to apply. Energy can not be created or destroyed with the exception of Gods creation. I realize the Eden pure claims their heater can do better than a conventional heater by storing up heat on a copper sheet but it didn't seem to pan out.
kdaveem 1 year ago

There is no extra heat from magic copper delivered to a room that an owner doesn't pay for.
skidancin 1 year ago
@skidancin Ok, that makes good sense. It really would be a wash in the end. Thanks my friend for taking the time.

PaperProphet 1 year ago
@PaperProphet Eden Pure claims that by heating a sheet of copper they get a greater efficiency due to storing some of the heat in their heat exchanger, but I suspect your correct about the conservation of energy principle applying here.
Thanks for the comment.

Thank you you just saved me 400.00 I was really thinking about buying one.
I have a lakewood space heater that is a radiant style sealed oil, eltric heater that I purchased 13 years ago that works great still to this day.
It has 3 setting areas on it 600 w button or 900 w button or both together to a combined 1500w as well as a dialed thermostat.
This is a great heater but it does get so hot on the outside that it will put blisters on you if you touch it.
pettyofficerramsey 1 year ago
Using an Eden Pure is like trying to heat a room with a hairdryer set on low.
These heaters aren't cheap, $o many are CONVINCED they do a great job.

all this "talk" makes me LOOOVVVEEEE my wood burning fireplace that keeps me so so warm ... 1 day to chop all the wood I need for the winter = a nice and cozy warm winter for FREEEEE XD

I saw the TV infomercial for this heater and they did an animation of how it works and it has 3 chambers inside with a 500W 115VAC heater in each one. you do the math. Personally I would just stick with the cube heater b/c you can get them dirt cheap at walmart vs 700 bucks for the edenpure and they both do the same thing. the electric fireplace heater that supposedly the amish make has the same problem. and the amish dont even use electricity.
coondogtheman1234 1 year ago
you are assuming that both heaters draw 1500 watt all of the time.

Thanks again.

I have also noticed feeling fatigued after being in front of my space heater for extended periods of time.
kdaveem 1 year ago

But in most cases your furnace/heat pump is doing all it can do (if tuned up properly with proper ductwork) and the structure of the house is usually the culprit for cold/hot rooms.
erockula 1 year ago

Improve the design by adding a thermostat, and Iron pipe for the bulbs to heat and the air to blow over.
rgbarnes46 2 years ago
You are measuring apples and oranges and therefore coming up with false conclusions. The name of the product is immaterial. Try this mount 6 250 watt infrared bulbs on a platform, enclose them in a metal box with openings for inlet air and outlet air and blow a fan over them.

I guess its true, there are a lot of dumb people in this world. And I'm talking about the ones that say the Eden Pure heater doesn't work.
Sidoti8 2 years ago
it works, yes, but no better than a $20 heater, listen to what ppl say moron.
rudagar1977 2 years ago
Simple Solution: Go buy the infrared quartz heater w/ remote at walmart - similiar to eden pure or iheater. If it doesn't work like its suppose to - take it back & get a full refund. (good job Dave)
devotedalex 2 years ago
Dave, I Commend you on your effort to inform people about the fact the eden pure heater will not heat their home any better than the average $20 space heater. Anyone who understands basic electronic theory knows without doing any testing that you're not going to get any higher output from either heater with a consumption of 1500 watts input. It is simply a scam to take advantage of those who don't know any better. Someone would have to be out of their mind to pay $400 for the eden pure heater!
TatorMonster 2 years ago
@TatorMonster,
In spite of what you and both I know about the basic laws of physics Vs the Eden Pure Heater claims, these heaters have been selling like Hot Cakes because of the false advertising. Its been difficult to convince some of the people who sell these heaters to realize they don't work as some claim.
Thanks for the comment.
kdaveem 2 years ago

Sidoti8 2 years ago
Yeah ok, and I didn't pay 400 dollars for it. Your cube heater is not heating 1000 square feet efficiently.

Sidoti8 2 years ago
@Sidoti8
No one is saying the Eden Pure doesn't work, but my inexpensive cube heater works just as well and didn't cost me 400 dollars.

900 sqft eh, right your living room is 900 sqft, moron, get a tape measure, or at least put up a wall your ceiling is going to fall in. douche

I have on ,but the only advantage that I see is that the outside of it does not get hot. Got it on a 60 day trial basis.I will probably be sending it back. I will stick with my cheap oil filled plug in radiators ;they are just as safe and give of more heat.
sean2070 2 years ago
The absolute funniest thing about their claims that you can save on your heating bill, is that they ignore "scale". When I've posted comments on other videos that tout these heaters' alleged savings, they all reply the same way. "This is NOT intended to heat your entire home." What I wonder is...how stupid do they think people are? If it can heat ONE ROOM for LESS MONEY than what folks are using now, then at what point CAN'T IT heat for less money? The answer should be very obvious. ;-)
brokenot 2 years ago
You don't tell anyone about your test on the heater. What size room did you test it in? Where was the heater placed in the room? If you're going to do a test, then tell exactly how you did it. I believe you are being biased.
Sidoti8 2 years ago
well eden pure claims that their heater can heat the room that you are in, and if you go to another room that the heat will follow you because the heat is attracted to the humidity that your body puts off. I for one dont believe that it's possible. Whats your take on it?
