I can't believe a lot of you people don't realise that this is a SPOOF! Yes, it's Neil from The Young Ones (Nigel Planer aka "Den Dennis" supposed guitarist), and its also Vyvyan Bastard (Ade Edmonson, aka "Vim Fuego", supposed lead vocalist and guitarist) and Rik (Rik Mayall, aka "Colin Grigson", supposed bass player): Thats Peter Richardson from Comic Strip playing Spider Webb, the supposed drummer. They released two albums people!
3 of them are from the Young Ones, Rick, Neil, and Vivian. Hugh Laurie was on the episode of The Young Ones "Bambi"....he was one of the students from Footlight College (the game show episode).
The joke was that this WAS a joke. Everyone knew Bad News werent a real band for fucks sake. Least I thought everyone did till I saw some of these comments, Jesus.
I was at this gig. I thought they were brilliant! I don't understand why the metal fraternity (or at least some of it) couldn't 'get' the joke(!) Metalheads were always the one's with a good sense of humour and could even laugh at themselves - what happened? It was never meant to be anything more than comedy. It worked, brilliantly! And yes, all credit is due for getting up there and doing it, amid all that hostility! That took some massive balls! Just lighten up, ppl! Enjoy and smile... (:o)
@klistarf it seems like nowadays jokes involving metal are more widespread. Obviously all of them follow the model of american humor, yet they are popular. It's sad, really. I approve of these types of jokes but not modern shit like the black metal chef something or other.
Bad News never pretended to be a real metal band , they were a bunch of comedy show actors wearing wigs , but saying that they did play their own instruments , write their own songs and endured a totally hostile audience for half an hour under a constant hail of abuse , bottles of p*ss, fireworks , food - etc etc etc.
Yeh its a bit ironic but the bands you mention especially def leppard and the scorpions are a lot like bad news even though bad news were a joke band.
That big bloke there is dead now. he died of a broken leg. he needed an operation on his leg and the stress of trying to bring him round killed him. i think so anyway. can anyone confirm it.
yes. I think it was Steve Walsh. he did a cover of 'I've found Lovin' with lots of hte 'You what, you what's' in it. He had a car crash in spain ( i think ) and did die when they were operating to fix his leg. Late 80's somtime...88 89?
actually...Spinal Tap and Bad News were both being filmed at almost teh exact same time...Bad News a few months before production of Spinal Tap began filming....just thought you'd like to know!!!
Brlilliant. I was at Donnington that year, and stood next to a po-faced fucker who shouted "you're bringing down the good name of heavy metal!" during their set. I was in stitches, and they had a lot of balls to get up in front of 70 odd thousand rock fans.
That's a pity...because they opened for Maiden once at a benefit show in 1988. there's a picture of them together floating around that even has Jimmy Page in it.
course they played and noooooo noone thought they were a serious band, sort of like spinal tap, ya know??? besides this has nothing to do with the young ones, this is a comic strip presents , I have every comic strip presents episode, like 36 hours
How can you get pissed off at the young ones cast?!?!?!? Idiot! I think everyone from then knew who they were, they were quite famous then you know!!!
Yes i noticed it too, but i thought that might of been part of the mockumentries gags?. This is an extract from the second bad news vid, i found the first one funnier to be honest.
Adam777 that's also Vyvyan and Rik from the same show. Bad News were a spoof heavy Metal band they put together for the "the Comic Strip Presents..." TV series. I've only ever seen the first of the two Bad News episodes so I'm glad someone posted this :-)
I saw Bad News perform in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent. They put on a fabulous show - and clearly had a blast doing so! If you can get a copy of their album, it's really funny too. Ozzy headling Donington '86 with Jake E. Lee on guitars - awesome!!
I wanna see some footage of Lemmy going after the guy in the crowd who threw a flare up on stage that same year. The bouncers were holding Lemmy back! A great moment in rock history - someone has to have it on film somewhere.
Yeah, I forgot about that incident. I was there and what a ferkin cold day it was, not helped by the open pissed filled bottles spinning through the air, if anyone was there they'll now what I mean. All well worth it once Ozzy got on the stage though. Aaahhh fond memories ;^)
i love the there reaction just before they get on. Ade Edmondson does the sign of the cross and Rik skulls his beer. if i had to preform in front of a audience that size, i would drink more then one beer..
Brilliant. I was at this gig...a guy stood next to me & shouted "they're bringing down the good name of heavy metal". I fucking pissed myself...best band of the day except Motorhead!!!
ha I love it how some people can't have a laugh at metal and still enjoy it. As long as it's done with love and not just some NME twat. Interestingly enough this is some of the only donnington 1986 footage i've found.
Great bloody video. Great band. Says everything about heavy metal a band needs to say. Well done, lads!

Who says that they weren't coached by the film makers to slag them off?
I'm pretty sure every single one of them knows the feeling of being slagged off because of people don't getting it.
