exactly. Only Waffen-SS units recieved Tigers. This lead to massive grudges between the Wehrmacht and the Waffen-SS. Surely, the army should get better equipment? No. The SS were the only ones to recieve Tiger Is and IIs, most of the Panthers and much of the best artillery and even air cover. Stupid idea really
@DaviesMotionPictures Wehrmacht Heer also recieved Tiger 1 , i.e. the Tigers in Tunesia (Waffen SS units are not asigned to Afrika Korps ) and best Tiger Ace is from Heer better than Wittmann , Feldwebel Kurt Knispel ,he is KIA shortly before War ended.
The Tiger I is the best tank of WW2 there is no doubt! It had a killing ratio of 1:7 with over 9,850 enemy tank kills!Tiger tanks really kicked some serious allied ass!
@Bobbyo60 Don´t get cocky old timer!USA wouldn´t have won shit if there weren´t for your little Allied friends! If the US would have fought alone against Germany which had the best Army ever in the history of the World by the way, then you would be speaking German right now old timer! And the Tiger I ate your sad little Sherman´s for breakfast anytime! So put your little american flag back to the drawer and calm down!
@Estmann111 - Well, just remember Sherman outnumbered Tiger at least 13:1...by the end of the war roughly 26000 Shermans were produced, Tiger number were in the 1500+. USA probably didnt win on the technology front but when you have number on ur side, u dont need to
@Estmann111 I should add Tiger is the best 1vs1 tank not the best tank of WW2 because in war, you need to take number into account. Sure killing ratio 1:7 looks impressive on its onw but for every Tiger there were roughly 26 Shermans, what would you do with the rest 19 Shermans?
Not true. It can be shot while on the move. It is of course, hard just like in any other tank. Where do you base you claim that it could not be fired on the move.
@aaKonda I agree . Michael Wittmann's gunner Balthasar "Bobby" Woll was known for being able to fire on the move. And was himself awarded the Knights Cross for his exceptional skill.
Yes. He was also famous of his skill to never adjust the sights to fit the range. He always used the basic combat range in his sights (800m I think) and just aimed higher to make a hit. A skill that can be honed only by experience.
na ja,der phanter kam so spät aufs schlachtfeld, dass ernur noch den krieg verlängern hätte können. zu dem zeitpunkt waren die russen bereits nah,und die amerikaner und briten auch.
the best tanks are helpless without air supremacy ...the failure of the luftwaffe was desastrous for germany>> no strategic 4-engines-bombers, no support for the u-boats near the coast, no support for the panzer-divisions during normandie and ardennen, not enough fighters to protect homeland, no fuel, bad leadership by goering ...
I agree; except I wouldn't say they are "helpless", because at least then they could move at night and had elaborate camoflage during the day, however, they are certainly much more vulnerable without adequate air support, for sure...
moreover, the Germans were developing mobile tracked anti-aircraft weapons to counter the lack of air support; unfortunately, for them, I don't think they made enough of them
I believe so. He did the same trick twice, in the first counter the gunner fired 3 rounds through the barrel. Later example, there were two hits through the barrel. Hermann Bix was an excellent tank ace, and is too often overlooked. Bix took out 75 soviet tanks in 3 weeks with his Jagdpanther.
Yes of course, but it was Bix who ordered the gunner to shoot through the barrel. This was no accident, and it was not the idea of the gunner, but Bix himself. He had shot the KV-1 to side turret for several times without any effect, and Bix got the idea to shoot through the barrel. I just finished reading "Panzer Aces I" by Franz Kurowski, where there was about 70 pages about Bix. Great book, I recommend it.
not really, tigers were complex machines and often broke down do to there weight if hitler let his generals do the thinking, who knows.... maybe germany would have won
dont forget, germany had 3 fronts to fight (eastern, western, and allies coming up from N. Africa to Italy)
and do you know how long the tiger needed to turn its tower around? 1 minute. that was pretty slow. but,if the tiger could stand camouflaged, witheout sinking, then he could become very, very effective

that guy is somewhat wrong. the kv tanks were almost impossible to destroy for the germans. they were great tanks. bad thing was the russians used bad fuel and the tanks ran out of ammo. most of the kv tanks get damaged by shooting them in the tracks.
plus: the kv2 based on the same chassis as the kv1, but had a much heavier turret. effect was that the tanks often simply broke down because the turret was TOO heavy
@BwZTheTouch KV-2 was intended to attack fortifications. Obviously after the breakthrough of the Finnish defense line in the 1939 Soviet commanders felt the need for a powerful assault weapons.
@Imprudentman wow, I almost forgot I even made a comment here XD Yeah, you're right, that beast was build to pound big holes in fortified defenses - and it was able (not saying it was intended) to pose a threat to other tanks, as well. It was an impressive tank, no discussion there - although it had its weaknesses, the weight of the turret being one of them.
I find it hard to believe that they didnt have any 88s at all during operation barbarossa seeing that they were used in the spanish civil war and battle of france which as im sure you know took place before operation barbarossa. It was a weapon that proved it self many times before why wouldnt they have took some along for the invasion of Russia?
LMAO it was. its just hitler wanted russia in like 2 weeks. try to go across dubble the united states in 2 weeks going 25 miles a hour with guys shooting rifles and shells at you. they had 88s but they left them in villages incase of russian counter attack. sorry for my English.
That is incorrect, the 8.8cm FlaK was available from the very beginning of the war and was already being used as an antitank weapon during the invasion of France starting in May, 1940, most notably by Erwin Rommel's 7th Panzer Div. By the time Barbarossa launched, the 8.8cm was both plentiful and in common usage as an antitank weapon.
like i said there very heavy they needed special trucks to pull them (which was 10 times more expensive than the 8.8mm) they had 88s but they were used for russian counter attacks. look up 88 flak they say i takes about a hour to set the gun up and get it just right for the windage.
Well then you are making straw man arguments. That's like saying the axis forces didn't kill that many people if you don't include the Germans as an axis country.
Even if you don't include Russia the allied forces firebombed Dresden, Tokyo, and dropped the atomic bombs.
Even so 20 million deaths is worse than 6 million, and we happened to be on the side that was responsible for the murder of 20 million.
it couldn't penetrate newer design tanks and so it was next to useless. Its only funktion in the eyes of the soldiers was to "knock on tanks amour" to show that somebody was out there ;)
Modern tanks came from former Soviet Union-Diesel propulsion, sloped armour and from nazi Germany-Big weight and size.England produced Chobham armour, in 1960 decade.
