@CompanyMold He´s done some live & studio work...but since he´s appeared on the bigger Drumming-Stages.....he´s always been a Solo-Artist & Clinician...
@Wowurgaylol poor guy's got no idea, what good and bad means. travis barker is since yeaaaars a much too overrated drummer. benny greb is no drummer. he is an artist!
@FurlanPaolo I was just trying to give peteski321 a general idea of what a trash hat is. Besides, I think Benny calls it "kind of a splash" or whatever because of how thin it is, but to me, it's a hi-hat cymbal that is usable as a splash, not the other way around. But ultimately it's up to Meinl's marketing dept.
BTW, I kinda prefer the 13"/14" combo Jojo used at the 2005 MD Festival. I have a unique 12"/13" combo that sounds great too. But the Meinls are nice, and surprisingly affordable.
I might get alot of thumbs downs for this but this is what i believe.
Benny has much groovier and musical solos, while Jojo (who still has very groovy and musical solos) focuses alot on handspeed and stuff like that. I prefer Benny
@doomedelk you've obviously never heard jojo's jazz trio with janek gwizdala, jojos technique is amazing but thats not what he focuses on...hes seriously musical as well, listen to him talking too. much respect to both, quality stuff
@Rob4256 honestly, I haven't seen his jazz trio work with Janek Gwizdala. I am going to check that out right now. I was just going off the solo videos I've seen by Jojo. I like both of them, I just prefer Benny's playing from the videos I've seen.
@doomedelk my two cents are that both are among the top all around drummers in the world. they both have filthy groove. i would also have a hard time finding any criteria by witch to compare these two drummers. i guess i feel that they both have different grove styles and benny's might be slightly more subtle and involved. they are both wizards any way. that being said these guys have released what i feel are the two most important drum dvds in existence.
why the fuck, every video i watch always someone has to bring up Travis barker.. man maybe he is not as good drummer as benny but cmmon he is still good! listen to some old blink stuff.. he actually was a pretty rad punk drummer
@JerrysDerby im going to guess its his signature snare judging by the color alone... look up benny greb sig snare drum promo vid on here sounds really close to the same if you compare the two vids
wow this guy is good! hes got an interesting setup there. i like his groove. i never heard Meinl cymbals used in a jazz thingy before. it sounds nice.
greb is the master of groove. ANYONE WHO LIKES DRUMMERS WITH GROOVE: most of yall probably won't like the type of music he plays, but check out matt halpern of periphery. he is an absolute monster, and someone who grooves as hard as benny.
@Insid15 pshhh are you kidding, i'm, a total matt/periphery fanboy, already watch that shit constantly haha. matt deserves to play MD festival for sure, completely underrated
@liennto good good, i find trying to keep it tapping in time while doing something really really simple over the top helps at the start, then try changing timing and speed and even jabbing (right before or after a snare hit)
@liennto Para-diddles and Hurta's yeah. But i also just tried to play along to some Lamb of God or Nile etc. to speed up the double bass and get it more accurate and controlled
I have a sand ride and i have to say i am verryy strongly considering getting myself some sand hats, the debate is between sand hats/dark spectrum hihats/extra dry
@nightshot999 He does, and he is. I think of all his signature items, his sticks are the things he uses ALL the time. He doesn't always use his sand ride, or his snare. I think he uses his sand hats and trash hats 99 percent of the time, but his sticks he always uses.
Why is it that the Barker fans always show up at someone like Grebb, or Bozzio, or Lang, or Mayer's video page just to post some ridiculous statement about how "Travis does it better?" These guys sound like little girls in a junior high beauty contest. "My friend is prettier than yours - nah, nah-nah, nah-nah." Give it a rest Barker Boys. If you don't like anyone else's drumming, stay in your own backyard.
He sounds so much better with all the dry cymbals. The Sand Ride and that 18" crash over the snare are money. I watched an older vid when he had a lot of bright cymbals and it put me off a bit.
