KTTR 1490 AM Rolla played all this in the early 60's Hopefully oldies stations will not forget the great contribution Bert made to music. He took the boring out of what we used to call elevator music. He made it so you just could not forget the music.
I would go for days with one of his great songs in my mind....
Frank Sinatra is famous for this song and he is also one of my favourite oldies singer. But Connie Francis did a remarkable cover of this song too. Its just bad that she was not recognize with her wonderful version of this song.
does any body know that mr Bert Kaempfert wrote this particularsong for Frank Sinatra (Strangers In The Night) Specially by request when he needed a hit at the turn of his careeer that gos stucked going nowhere and this particular son ironically resucitate his fame and open not juast a new road but a new global market!
@Promehteus2020 WRONG! Singer Ivo Robic (Croatia) co-wrote "Strangers In The Night" with Bert Kaempfert. It was NOT written for Sinatra. Bobby Darin and Jack Jones also recorded it at the same time. Sinatra's people got HIS record to radio stations FIRST! Look it up!
Strangers in the night exchanging glances wondering in the night what were the chances we'd be sharing love before the night was through. Something in your eyes was so inviting, something in you smile was so exciting, something in my heart, told me I must have you. Strangers in the night, two lonely people we were strangers in the night up to the moment when we said our first hello...........
I just learned that BlueEyes Sinatra is NOT the Original concerning the strangers in the night, because Bert wrote it AND played it.. mind-blowing.. seventeen stars for Bert.
Another song that Bert did originally as an instrumental, was Danke Schoen[sp?], in 1961 or '62. A short time later it was given lyrics (either by Bert hinself or someone accociated with him)and covered by Wayne Newton.
Blue Midnight/L-O-V-E/Red Roses For A Blue Lady/Java/Almost There/Lonely Nightingale/ Cotton Candy/ Three O'Clock In The Morning/ Free As A Bird/Love Comes But Once/Treat For Trumpet/Goodnight, Sweet Dreams
I was so dense, I had to google to learn that the sound WAS from a bass guitar! Then I HAD to know more! Ladi Geisler was so enthused that he built his own amp early on! He and Kaempfert created the plucked bass sound where the strings were immediately muted to eliminate any sostenuto effect. One reviewer said the effect of the beat "created a hook that could catch a 500 pound marlin." These musicians were geniuses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i agree! i remember first hearing this in 71 on an 8 track in dads vauxhall ventora, but today sound engineers could never replicate this band sound, despite the new technoligies.
What a wonderful recording. Strange that Sinatra hated the song. But Jack Jones' version was incredibly romantic, and as far as I'm concerned, these renditions by Bert and Jack are the only ones I need.
20.000 plus hits -this music is wonderful. the older i get the more i am so happy that we can still hear this great easy listen music. serge post more of these, i love them. and yes i use to love the -beatles- rollin stones- ac-dc. just to name a few. but this is music to dance or relax to.
How refreshing to have access to something this pleasant in 2009. We may never hear live music of this ilk ever again.
But alas, we do have cRAP and Hip-Hop which aren't even music and which represent one of the biggest scams ever foisted upon the blacks. And most of them don't know or don't care. And look at the millions being made by "people" with zero talent. SICKENING!
Bert was truly incredible. I was always a Herb Alpert fan too...Bert and his orchestra were the only ones who could compete with Herb. These songs can bring a tear, so many memories...thank you for posting.
Hey Folks , if any of you have some of Bert Keampfert CD's and you want to post them here , then please do , because I really enjoy these old songs of the 60's ,and it sure does bring back memories of the good ole days .
This was originally written as a music cue for a feature film Bert scored, Universal's "A Man Could Get Killed" (1966) [starring James Garner], which was issued on {U.S.} Decca as a "soundtrack album". Words were eventually added to it, and Frank Sinatra had a monster hit with the song in the spring of '66.
