The reason I mentioned the Royal Albert Hall is that is where the Welsh Men's group sings, I think it is once a year. If they sang in a Welsh venue that would be fine with me.
@crapatev This choir comes from a town full of slate miners. The Quarries were huge in Delta PA. I have also uploaded a song they sang for Catherine Zeta's Jone's wedding in New York, Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn, and on that video I uploaded pictures of the flooded quarry and the town. But there were Welsh Coal miners all over Pennsylvania, and their decendents still sing welsh and there are a few Welsh churches yet.
Johann Sebastian Bach once said that the only functions of music should be the glory of God and the refreshment of man's soul. This magnificent hymn certainly qualifies on both counts. Thank you and well done, choir.
I was introduced to this stirring melody thanks to one of the finest motion pictures ever made: How Green Was My Valley, which won numerous Academy Awards in 1941, including Best Picture. It is sung at the beginning of the film by the Welsh miners as they walk from the mine to their modest homes. If you not seen this film, do so. You will always remember its story and music.
It was a wonderful film. My only criticism is that they should have used only Welsh actors. Some of the accents were so wrong. But it was still a great film and should be shown in British history lessons at school. Too much of the Tudors and so little of real life. Good post, trapezemusic and others.
A family member has been doing our genealogy and we've discovered we have
Welsh ancestry in several branches of our American family. I knew there was a reason I loved this hymn--and several other Welsh hymns, and best of all the Welsh anthem. Thanks, cousins!! Or should I say Diolch!
Llandudno is one of my favourite places. Sunsets there are incredible, the Conway valley is wonderful, the castles nearby are beautiful, cant think of a better place to be, at least to vacation.
Contrary to the English pedants in England, the spelling and grammar in use in the US is most similar to 18th century usage than that which evolved during the 19th century in Britain.
While American spelling makes sound sense they are much more pedantic on rparts grammar on which Britain has long since exercised a more relaxed attitude.
I get people very upset by spelling the word as program rather than the contorted and in no way meaningful programme.
Geiriau cymreig da - good enunciation in both languages and most tasteful. Took me back 50 years to Capel Calfaria yn Fargoed, Sir Forgannwg. Diolch yn fawr, Rhisiart ap G and God Bless America!

I'm a great grandaughter of a Welsh Pennsylvania coal miner. Thank you for this gift of music, and Happy St David's Day to all.

Does your average American understand why Hymes are best sung in Welsh ? .....
It's so God doesn't have to translate...

This rendition is really good. The presence of female voices justs adds to the magic of this hymn.

Although I'm only 1/4 Welsh, this hymn always gets that bit of my Welsh blood up! Really rousing and a good rendition.

Beautiful singing. The pronunciation of Welsh is very good, and I also like hearing the English too, in the rich American accent.
