  • I dont think the average American is even aware Wales exists....but I agree with you at least!

  • Does your average American understand why Hymes are best sung in Welsh ? .....

It's so God doesn't have to translate...

  • This rendition is really good. The presence of female voices justs adds to the magic of this hymn.

  • The reason I mentioned the Royal Albert Hall is that is where the Welsh Men's group sings, I think it is once a year. If they sang in a Welsh venue that would be fine with me.

  • Cwm Rhondda - where a lot of my ancestors of from- the beautiful Rhondda valley- CYMRU AM BYTH

  • I had no idea their were Welsh in Pennsylvania?? And wow.....do they sing it beautifully!!! Thank you for this treasure!

  • @Albertanator "I had no idea their were Welsh in Pennsylvania?? "

It had quite a few Welsh immigrants (for the mines, isn't it?!).

  • @crapatev This choir comes from a town full of slate miners. The Quarries were huge in Delta PA. I have also uploaded a song they sang for Catherine Zeta's Jone's wedding in New York, Bugeilio'r Gwenith Gwyn, and on that video I uploaded pictures of the flooded quarry and the town. But there were Welsh Coal miners all over Pennsylvania, and their decendents still sing welsh and there are a few Welsh churches yet.

  • Lovely hym having it played at my anty's brothers in law funeral tomorrow RIP.

  • Part Welsh is whole Welsh. Not Christian but whole Celt and loving Welsh hymns.

  • Truly beautiful...

  • Johann Sebastian Bach once said that the only functions of music should be the glory of God and the refreshment of man's soul. This magnificent hymn certainly qualifies on both counts. Thank you and well done, choir.

  • Bring back the Royal Albert Hall version with 1,000 men's choir, Please

  • @261joanne Would love to hear it!

  • @261joanne yeah where did that go?

  • @261joanne Check out ( Princess Diana Funeral Cum Rhondda) Yes,Cum is miss-spelled in the titel.

  • @1504trevor Its actualy spelled "Cwm" Which is Welsh for Valley.

  • @Avenger180 you are right!!! ilive in cwm ,avery sweet little village. thank you .

  • @261joanne F*** the Albert Hall its a Welsh song, pick a Welsh venue lol

  • well i'll be, yanks singing in Welsh better than they do in Cardiff! Da iawn!

  • Although I'm only 1/4 Welsh, this hymn always gets that bit of my Welsh blood up! Really rousing and a good rendition.

  • I was introduced to this stirring melody thanks to one of the finest motion pictures ever made: How Green Was My Valley, which won numerous Academy Awards in 1941, including Best Picture. It is sung at the beginning of the film by the Welsh miners as they walk from the mine to their modest homes. If you not seen this film, do so. You will always remember its story and music.

  • It was a wonderful film. My only criticism is that they should have used only Welsh actors. Some of the accents were so wrong. But it was still a great film and should be shown in British history lessons at school. Too much of the Tudors and so little of real life. Good post, trapezemusic and others.

  • NOT WELSH!

  • What do you mean?

  • A family member has been doing our genealogy and we've discovered we have

Welsh ancestry in several branches of our American family. I knew there was a reason I loved this hymn--and several other Welsh hymns, and best of all the Welsh anthem. Thanks, cousins!! Or should I say Diolch!

  • Better take classes now: you all know that Welsh is the the only language spoken in Heaven, yes?

  • Yay! Can hardly wait for the immersion class! <3

  • Im headed for North Wales next chance I get.

  • You will be made most welcome.

Try llandudno for a great GOG welcome.

Great views over the sea and Carneddau mountains and really friendly people.

I should know as i moved from Cardiff having lived there for 36yrs and went to North Wales.

One of the best things ive ever done.

    a quieter pace of life.

  • Llandudno is one of my favourite places. Sunsets there are incredible, the Conway valley is wonderful, the castles nearby are beautiful, cant think of a better place to be, at least to vacation.

  • @Borzoi86 I hope it is not but if the singing is in Welsh Then BRING IT ON!!!! :-)

  • da iawn

    i love cwm rhondda

  • funny how the only welsh languange rendition of this hymn I could find came from across the water

  • Its what seems to tends to happen, parts of america have even kept old english sayings/phrases whilst they have been lost from england

  • Contrary to the English pedants in England, the spelling and grammar in use in the US is most similar to 18th century usage than that which evolved during the 19th century in Britain.

While American spelling makes sound sense they are much more pedantic on rparts grammar on which Britain has long since exercised a more relaxed attitude.

I get people very upset by spelling the word as program rather than the contorted and in no way meaningful programme.

  • Da iawn, i bob un! Moved me to tears.

Geiriau cymreig da - good enunciation in both languages and most tasteful. Took me back 50 years to Capel Calfaria yn Fargoed, Sir Forgannwg. Diolch yn fawr, Rhisiart ap G and God Bless America!

  • so beautiful, it is like listening to the angels

  • Makes me a very proud Welshman.

  • I was born in the wrong damn country.

  • da iawn..! keep it up

  • Beautiful singing. The pronunciation of Welsh is very good, and I also like hearing the English too, in the rich American accent.

Diolch am roi hwn ar Youtube. Cyfarchion o Gymru :)
