I visited this cemetery while in Stoke a couple of weeks ago. I've been to many cemeteries in England, and many cemeteries here in Canada that are older than Hanley Cemetery, and I have to say that Hanley is by far the most uncared for and disrespectful cemetery I've ever been in. Unkept grass, toppled stones, complete disarray and garbage adorns the place. The building at the entrance is a crumbling mess and as a whole the entire cemetery is absolutely shameful.
I saw either a ghost or Will-o'-the-wisp at this cemetery (Hanley/Shelton) back in 1983 (approx) when I was about 12 years old.... a lad a=t school said I'd seen 'Mabel' and that many people had.
