  • If we wake up and the bill only gives insurance to those that got kicked off the wagon of the health insurance companies then we have completly got shamed

  • This is the worst report I've ever viewed from realnews. This was the kind of "reporting" that one gets from the likes of fox snooze. Realnews is hypocritical in not having a single payer supporter in this report. Instead we got that cheap obamapologist roger "the dodger" hickey. He is not a progressive and neither are the phony organizations in which he's involved! Hey, hickey! NO ONE TAKES YOU SERIOUSLY!

SHAME on realnews for producing this piece of tripe!

  • Starting from Scratch is gobbledygook and babble.

    Hokes Pokes mumbo jumbo.

The USA already has a single payer system, It's called Medicare so, WE ARE NOT STARTING FROM SCRATCH, PERIOD.

WAKE THE HELL-UP, start thinking for your self's, and quit letting politicians and the Health Care Industry do your thinking for you !

  • Puppet politicians act as prostitutes to the Health Insurance Corporate Elite. Baucus sold seats at the table(he took $400,00) from health insurance comp. and pharma.) They get their money by denying claims & causing bankruptcy & death.

Take away elected officials tax payer paid health care. Let them buy it on the Free Market.

When corporations controll the government& their concerns trump that of the average person's you have fascism. Not a democracy, not a republic.FASCISM

  • There is so much information out there though...Where to start? I barely understand your other comment...I looked at your youtube profile and I see the books you have read, whoa when are people going to read "Materialism vs, Creationism from antiquity to present" during commercial breaks while watching HGTV? I think more knowledge needs to flow and be shared, the internet is a start, but then people need incentive to learn, and time to learn..

  • Good arguement.

  • Indeed, and Bush's mob weren't conservatives either. It's like the illusion of two boxers being separate entities, when in truth they are one, serving the bag men.

  • If you look at the Congressional voting records since the late 1970's you see increasingly significant differences between the parties, culminating in the extreme polarization we see now.

  • I'm sorry, but I'm pretty cynical about these things. The two wings beat pots and pans but ultimately serve the same masters, and I'm not talking about the electorate. Single payer isn't even up for debate, it's simply the model of privately owned insurance (in quote marks) that's being discussed. Everything else is simply circus and distraction.

  • how can the lower economic brackets reduce or equalize or surpass the amount of power that the rich corporate entities and upper 10 percent or upper one percent have? Boycott? class itself is a tricky ambiguous thing...The snake seems to eat it's tale everyone i part of the circle to a greater or lesser degree..at the same time we criticize others we somehow play a part in how things are at some level...me too...

  • what's with the obama backdrop? necessary?

"Hi, I'm part of the messiah's admin.!" what a tool.

  • Agreed bryan, I think Metallica wrote a song about it. Sad But True.

Two parties huh, like a flaming unicorn fighting a leprechaun, absolute fantasy.

  • The bailout began under President Bush.

  • But the obama side is pulling to the left, the bush side is pulling to the right, I thin Obama is as far to the left as you can be and still be elected president, don't be too hard on him, there are a lot of forces working through politics, and to underscore Obama will give the right that much more confidence, and shift the people who are easily swayed by the superficial to vote republican next election and we don't want that now do we,,,

  • the fact is the "Ship" is located or positioned in these waters, no matter who is admiral they are going to be faced with a narrow set of options, I think if Ralph Nader (who I admire) were president,he would see that he would have to sway republicans, and democrats and voters etc..The President is not a dictator who has everyone at his command, he himself has to confront other powerful entities and just make due with what is available, I think saying Obama is just Bush is false.

  • Totally agreed.

  • I think it is fair to say this, though I think some democrats should go ahead and join the republicans or start adopting more progressive ideals, But I think people like Obama and others really are a force that is tugging Left (as confusing a term that can be) and I don't think it is good to assume that Obama is the same as Bush, Look at how difficult it is for him to get Guantanamo closed, Not just the politicians but the people in this country are very capitalist minded and afraid of change.

  • I don't believe Obama is stealing anything. I think our economic problems are a result of vast amount of power in small elite hands. I believe Prez Obama wants to do the right thing and pass progressive policies, but he's a corporate crat. His heart may be in the right place, but we are going to have to push him to pass the kind of policies that will benefit everyone in this country, not just the corporate elite, who by the way, run the damn country.

  • I think he is doing as much as he can, and he is hoping the people will get the hint and start a strong movement now when the time is right, if people get together for this, then President Obama would say to republicans "See what the people want?" But without that he is fighting it out the best he can in the position he is in in the fairest way possible, I know a lot of leftist love to lambaste Obama but I they would never get elected, Obama is the closest thing we have to getting more left..

  • Damage? What damage? Compared to what? Handing over government agencies to incompetent hacks who don't believe in the institution's purpose? Privatizing the government? Tripling the number of lobbyists in D.C. in 8 years? Going to war in Iraq for weapons of mass destruction? Firing U.S. attorneys because they're democrats or gays? You have a very short memory.

  • how can we do this in an effective, non-violent organized way? How can we organize people who may be poor themselves or have obstacles in life from leaving their daily concerns and routines, this was hard even for Dr. Martin Luther King...he was working with his fellow African Americans, people who shared a common ethnicity and experience...a movement to bring health care and other rights to citizens would require bringing a broad spectrum of different people together for a common cause..

  • It's funny how after 8 years of President Bush that people can be so whiny about our current president only three months into his term.

  • HR 676 look it up

  • VERY VERY VERY WELL-PUT! You have a great way with words, Cindy. The obsession with Obama has blinded so many people to the fact that it's pretty much politics-as-usual...as usual. Sigh.

  • Screw you guys. No gov run health care ever works. This is not news, this is propaganda. I'll never submit to a gov run health care program. Keep your Canadian noses out of our business.

  • "No gov run health care ever works."

Reality might have a problem with that statement.

  • lol, yeah thats why every other western country in the world uses universal healthcare except the US... because it "doesnt work"

  • No, but apparently you came down from one.

  • Oooh you're so clever. I bet it took you some time to come up with that one. Was that before or after you removed the penis from your mouth, or was it after you father extracted his from your butt?

  • They're not talking about "gov run health care". They're talking about socialized insurance. You're talking about socialized medicine, where hospitals and clinics are owned by the gov't, and medical workers are gov't employees. Many countries that have universal health care (all other advanced countries besides U.S.) employ private hospitals and private medical employees; only the insurance is gov't.

  • What they are talking about is forced coverage for everyone, paid for by everyone, run by the gov. Fuck that.

  • medicaid and medicare are gov programs that have been around for years and they work like clockwork. My brother his grandmother are disabled. Their checks are always on time and they have a wide range of choices for doctors. I think it's fallacy to say government can't run programs efficiently. WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT. Privatization is just another word for competition. With all the insurance companies in this country, prices should be much lower and care more efficent. It isn't.

  • Right now, the current private Health Care system gives Insurance Companies full power to decide if You or anyone should LIVE or DIE.

And they don't give a Shit about you or me. They're only concern is PROFIT. Period!

I know way to many people who were denied coverage for treatments when they needed it most. It's an In-Human System!

If you believe all those idiot commercials showing how Insurance Companies CARE about people, then Congratulations, the "T.V." Brain-Washing LIES worked on you.

  • When I go to the doctor I feel short changed, even when I see a good doctor, it's like I don't get my questions answered or the doctor is impatient and reluctant to say much, they see me for maybe five minutes, and they get paid a lot for that five minutes, I respect that much responsibility comes with the occupation, but couldn't they be more open to greater levels of interaction? also the nurses tip toe and refer to the doctor with deference they would give to some powerful authority figure

  • Hi, you need to find a new DR. There are good ones out there. I actually found one here in NY that took care of me a few years ago when I didnt have insurance. He used to even call the labs and get the bills cut in half. I still use him today although I just lost my insurance again..lol

  • 'cause freedom costs a buck-o-five.

  • Nothing like paying $5 for a $.02 whore.

  • Maybe that "Whore" wont have to resort to that occupation, if she (or he) has education and health care for her and her children...A more educated and health society will give people more opportunities to take the non-destructive path..which either is hard to find or not available for many living in tight circumstances and don't forget you yourself would be covered. It isn't such a big sacrifice when you see how much adversity it would clear away

  • We can give 1,000 Billions to Banksters, War Makers, Foreign Aid but we can't have Universal Health Care for Americans? When will America come to its senses?

  • sorry to hear it. dentists who do that should have their licenses suspended.

  • Paul is wrong here...the American people don't support Single Payer. They may poll at 55% now, but wait until they experience rationing. Americans didn't put up with HMO's, they won't put up with an American NHS.

  • If the money system is flawed you have to eliminate the flaw before you get all fancy with health care, welfare, endless war, endless corruption etc.

No sound money, no country its a simple as that. You don't build a house on swamp land do you, you can't build a country on fiat money. (Monopoly Money)

  • I like this Hickey guy.

    Great video, TheRealNews!

  • Is Walter Reed a single payer hospital?

  • Well that's the last promise Obama hadn't broken yet...

    Fuckin peice of work

  • Push O B one back on to the tracks ...with single Payer... Vets wont have to make those long trips and hang out in waiting rooms all day, medicare gives them more options. The VA gets a lower workload to better assist the newer Iraq and Afghan rehabs, there families need care as well.

Most the vets I talk to are like me, our pensions cover us only and we cant afford coverage for our wife's or children.

I still have kids at home and my wife is not getting the care she needs.

  • Universal health care was one of the cornerstones of Obama's platform. If he can't deliver with solid Democrat majorities in both houses, I want to know why. Get on TV, point fingers, name names. Shame these assholes into doing what they were elected to do.

  • How are they illegal?

  • Turn on Fox Moos and go back to sleep, genius.

  • I don't watch corp TV. Way to jump to wrong conclusions.

  • Like one problem I have with being able to help, is that I have a hard time being around people in the first place, then I don't know which people to get with, there could be some people who take advantage of others and aren't legitimate, then I have transportation issues, and there are more things, when all is said and done i can't see HOW I can do anything, and I think this could be said for others, could there be some kind of organized volunteer corps that functions to help people to help

  • Lower Income people cover such a broad range of different peoples and orientations and sub-cultures, How can these people get together to get anything done? Many work a lot as wage slaves and in there spare time are dealing with dysfunction, and the moment to moment issues at hand in day-to-day life. Also this stratum is poorly educated, and doesnt understand their state of oppression or know how to go about doing much to help, I know I don't know what to do...

  • Push back... your politicians has staffers that answer the phone and record and Track call-ins.

They even agree to note your issues and log the calls to show there boss who and how many issues there dealing with and if your a voting from their district.

Low to no complaints allows them to vote with the money... voter HEAT count puts them into a survival mod .

If they commit to the money in a HIGH HEAT count, bet your last dollar they go into the next election wearing a parachute .

  • what they need are condescending people to tell them what's good for them, since they are too uneducated to know it themselves. i call it "the educated man's burden".

  • Universal Healthcare!!!! (dental included!) add to the list optical...

  • Dental care needs to be covered under the overall health care..dental health is so important, not just for eating , but for self esteem, healthy oral hygiene, I can't figure out why dental is separate from the rest of physical health, plus dental is so expensive...Pleases let there be Dental care..

  • drastic education costs and operating business are to blame . Dentists getting out of school

with hundreds of thousands in student loan debt

at 8 to 10 %interest . Dental equipment cost a fortune . Hiring assistant receptionist etc, building taxes. Costs are enormous . Go to 3 rd world country for affordable dental care.

  • It is terrible to have to loose teeth, Psychologically it is very detrimental. If you lose them you should be able to get inserts or caps,to walk around toothless is a state of defilement, anyone who is economically sound usually has teeth, they can afford dental care, think of the disadvantaged state of poorer people when they lose teeth, or have cavities, the pain and the halitosis and just having to be without teeth, and feeling like that, things are not equal in society in so many ways

  • I would say this is one of those overlooked examples of compounding issues that burdens down, lessens equality of a person of lower income, many people say "how is it so much harder for a poorer person?" Usually I have many things screaming through my mind, but I can't say them fast enough, but here is just one of the many things that makes life that much more dismal and hopeless feeling, (and unequal) Bad teeth, cavities, pulled teeth, low self esteem, fear to smile, painful tooth infections etc

  • one way to solve this problem is to allow dentists from other countries free visa and resident status

and allow them to operate out of their homes . with increased competition prices will go down .

  • I'm on ssi, and I don't have dental coverage, I went to the Dentists 2 weeks ago, and He looked my teeth over and told what I needed done, and it came to over 4,000 dollars! Dental care is so important, not only is it a painful and personal area to have problems, but good teeth enhance self esteem, and contribute immensely to overall quality of life, look at someone poor and many times they have teeth missing it is a dead giveaway. boom the person has a stigma,

  • Get treated outside the US.

  • Comment removed

  • Dental is the only thing that is relatively cheap and shows a high level of consumer responsiveness. Do NOT bring this under Gov control.

  • Cheap? Either you are rich or you havn't had quality dental work lately..Yeah you can get teeth yanked somewhat cheaply, but for anything else it is very expensive

  • I said "relatively" cheap for a reason. Dental hasn't seen the cost explosion other areas of medicine have. And where the issues are (like getting charged more for wisdom teeth extraction bc the f**king insurance companies call it a surgical procedure) are the results of the bad parts of our healthcare system forcing their way into dental care. We don't need the Gov speeding up that process.

  • If single payer public health care insurance is off the table it's because our government is corrupt to the core. They're subsidizing incompetent banksters & corporate crooks while allowing the back bone of our nation-- the taxpaying working class-- to be broken with ever increasing taxes, levies, fees, fines, tolls, mandatory insurance, etc . . . to pay for trillions in corporate welfare handed out like Halloween candy. While real & necessary social welfare is allowed to dry up & blow away.

  • Its because we are afraid to fight and get dirty. Its a mudhole and we gotta get right in. You gotta show how much you want it.

  • The Senate has been paid off by the insurance companies come on lets tell the truth. The Senate is in the tank and don't represent citizens.

  • agitcam: that's exactly right: and why Obama said, "If we were starting from scratch, single payer is a better plan." The insurance companies have their greedy, cancerous fingers dug so deep into the health care delivery system that it would take a master surgeon to cut them out without killing the host. As it is, the cancer they represent will eventually kill the host, anyway. Under those terms, I say we take a chance on surgery.
