This is stunning to see! It takes me back to Harrisonburg, VA and the HTM warehouse, and the early demos. This sounds like one of those 4-track recordings, many of which finally got released on the "Beginnings" CD album.
Happy The Man is and always will be an awesome band - one of a kind - making the most amazing music ever!! Long live HTM!! And thanks sooo much for this GORGEOUS video!!! :-)
YUP! I was there y'all. And was Kits student and learned all the great tunes, riffs, and then I grew to make my own then looked back to realize they really were the best and I am so blessed to have known them and am a better musician for it. God bless these guys yesterday and today!! richgreennow@gmail.com
Very nice to see this old footage of the guys. We did a few WGTB shows together as East Coast Offering around '76 and I was usually at their Cellar Door shows. Yeah, Mike's colors were the real thing...... everybody had their voice. Coco too..
I saw HTM first concert in the Student U at Madison College (today JMU) in October 1973. They played many covers and their own material. The fire alarm went off mid way through their set! I believe Rick was absent still serving in the military but would join with the band shortly thereafter. Those Madison years (73-75) were golden to me having witnessed one of the greatest bands on the planet, all in my very own back yard!
@jamescpotter That really wonderful. i saw them a few years later in DC (Georgetown). The Georgtown U very liberal ciollege radio station was huge fans of Happy the Man as well as all things unique and progressive. It was a blessing to have them turn me on to HTM. this is incredible audio. thanks for posting. For the longest time my uploaded 90's concert videos were the only HTM's here.
oh my...what memories this brings..like :walking into the basement of the H'burg house for the 1st time to see rehearsal..and seeing Mike's set...not to mention him...~swoon~ ..I was 15 o well
Wow...that brings back some memories. We were filmed for a TV show "Catch a Rising Star". That was some of the footage. I wonder whatever happened to that video...
NO FUCKING WAY.... Wow look at Mike Beck's SET!! And his percussive eyes!!! Amazing...
There was once an entire 45 minute set shown on WTTG on a Sunday Morning... It was the first time I ever heard or Saw HTM. I WISH someone would find that piece of history.
I can tell the opening bit with Mike and the parade Cymbals is the beginning of, "Mr Mirror's Reflection On Dreams."

Wrong song though, they're performing Mr Mirror....

@mbnurse11 - Yes, the song isn't the original one in the vide. Mr. Mirror's was one and Knee Nynmps was the other IIRC. Good catch.

Lived in DC in the 70's. First heard of the band when the drummer picked me up hitchhiking. G-Town radio station was WGTB, "One Nation, Underground."
