I've been working on my pineal gland through meditation and it certainly does open up new worlds and better ways of thinking/feeling. I have to be careful though, because sometimes I pick up the emotions of others and it's important to be empathic and loving without getting drawn into what they are going through or learning. That could lead one to think that it's their own thoughts causing feelings of anger, sadness or even of being physically ill, when that's not the case at all.

i've had the kundalini move in me, if i had to pick a number, 4 times since 1998 till 2006 and i never abstained from sex. i think that abstaining is unnecessary. in fact, if you use it you will increase that chakra's ability to remain open. i think you'd have to be very, very trained to know how to recycle that energy through the body in a different way, but think, doesn't that sound like arrogance, and therefore, ego to abstain? use your own intuition and trust your higher self, your only god.
