  • THIS WAS MY JAM!

  • This song used to creep me out when I was a kid!

Mainly because in Dutch the song was 'zwarte vlerk' which means 'black wing' but vlerk has another meaning which means a genuinely unkind person, an asshole so to speak.

The word is almost NEVER used to describe a wing, so I, and every other kid who saw this, always thought he was singing about a mean black person? see why we got creeped out here?

  • I can't resist smiling like an idiot as I sing along to this. Too bad my tapes of Sesame Street don't work anymore :(

  • Very Gyspy, Transylvanian music. I like how he is remodeled after Bela Lugosi (Count Dracula).

  • LOL. Wow, totally remember so many of these songs. This is such brilliant, fun stuff that I enjoy even as an adult (I'm nearing 30).

  • I wish they still ad this on Seasme Street today, as well as the lightning, and his laugh, oh his laugh was probably the best thing on the skit! I'm surprised I'm saying this because I watched this over 10 years ago and I am almost 15!

  • OMG! I still sing this at almost 40 years old. LMAO!!!

  • @aligned576 LOL!!! I still sing a lot of these (I'm ten years younger).

    This stuff transcends time, seriously.

  • This was the greatest song! :)

  • batty batty batty bat i remember this!

  • luv this song!

  • You gotta wonder if the producers will actually let the Count speak some real Slavic language sometime. ;) Unless that's what I heard at 2:48-2:50

  • The Count > Edward Cullen

  • When I was a kid I would put a towel on and pretend it was a cape. Then twirl singing this. I love count.

  • epic

  • That was REALLY GREAT! I think it would be the perfect dance for a halloween party, don't you?

  • we have to dance to this song for halloween in dance

  • count is awesome

  • this is sooooooooooo cute and im 11

  • Keep the Old Sesame Street! Haha, Count makes me laugh and so does Elmo^^

  • I loved this as a kid back in the 80's! I showed it to my 4 year old and he loves it too. We've watched together about 20 times already. Good stuff never goes outta style, apparently.

  • He's more dangerous than Edward Cuntlen.

  • wow, this brings back so many good memories.

    kitchen.teatowels.dancing.batty.batt :)

  • I googled "Carpathian Mountains" , & The Count is Ukrainian(:

  • @TheDaisyBell1

Actually, given how long the Carpathian Mountains are, he could be either Czech, Slovakian, Polish, Hungarian, Ukrainian or Romanian. Seeing as how Dracula lived in the Carpathian Mountains on the border of Transylvania, Bukovina, and Moldavia, which eventually became part of Romania, I think The Count is Romanian. =)

  • @raiu0009

it's just Seasame Street for pete's sake!

  • i was little when i saw this i watched it over and over again

  • OH MY GOSH, I remember dancing to this as a little kid with wings made out of towels :O

I was my favorite song on the tape. ^^

  • @catfeathers101

haha omg! i used to do that too :D

  • @KiranaForever Not to mention just filled with Elmo stupidity.

  • One of my Favorite Count songs, no idea why.

  • because of count...i am the metal head i am today : D

  • Love this, brings back soo many memories! Old school Sesame Street was great :)

  • 12 people are NOT doing the Batty Bat.

  • Where is the one where the Count sings with Ernie?

    The song goes:

" Down and Down and Down

    Up, Up and Down again

Up, Up and Down and Down and Down

    and Uuuuup.... aaaagain,,,!

  • @Omega13X2000 Well, since you posted this a month ago, I'm not sure if you need help anymore, but I'll try anyway. He wasn't singing it with the Count though, the characters name was 'Placido Flamingo' and you can watch it here: watch?v=TpFOsuM9LeI

    Hope I helped. :\

  • @petziez95

Are you sure? I was almost sure he sing it with ernie.

  • @Omega13X2000 Well, what I meant was that Ernie was singing it with Placido Flamingo. Sorry for the confusion.

  • @petziez95

Nevermind. This is the one. No wonder why I couldn't find it. I didn't even remember a character named Placido Flamingo.

  • @Omega13X2000 Oh. Just saw this response. Glad I could help.

  • Classic Sesame Street at it's best. Back when the problems of the Street lasted the whole show, sometimes having three letter and numbers of a day (and I faintly remember a color and shape)

  • I love the wee bats. Count Von Count was always my favourite character.

  • Becouse of this show i learned to love Vampires now im obssed.. 123 lol

  • I need a Batty Bat RINGER!!!!!!

  • @larryclone

    That wouold be awesome!!!!!

  • I have ALWAYS love the count!!!! Hes the BEST character sesame street has ever had or will ever have!!!! The Count is the reason why I love all things vampires. Trăiască conta!!!! (Long live the Count in Romanian). :-)

  • My favorite bit from a great show and my four year old won't even watch Sesame Street, classic or modern.

  • 11 people can't count

  • so many memories

  • sometimes i think they wrote these things to keep the adults entertained rather than the kids, oh well!

  • Dear people in charge of Sesame Street , please remember your awesome past. "Smell Like a Monster" gave me hope! Keep going!

  • this is the song from which i learnt that bats are called bats. no, i learnt that they are called batty bats :P

  • To the 10 who didn't like this: "Did you ever have a childhood?" This is awesome!!

  • @ezil82 16 people doenst had a childhood

  • Who are the doody-heads who gave this a thumbs down? The count is awesome (and a way better vampire than that wussy from Twilight).

  • "Come! We try again!" 1:52

Count rules. Classic Sesame. F(orget) Elmo.

  • i loved this as a kid, and now it's fun watching it with my kids. :)

  • The count is a trip! (lol)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember this song like it was yesterday, good times :p

  • i use to like it when the count would start yellin in his songs...i was like oh hes gettin into it!! then i would start yellin!

  • this song used to scare me to death

  • I love the old sesame street way better than the seasame street nowadays!

  • This is when Sesame Street had GREAT characters: the Count, Snuffelufagess, Guy Smiley, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Harry and Grover the monsters, the construction worker guys. Nowadays it's too much Elmo - I've never liked Elmo.

  • @katinaanimator It's called marketing, unfortunately.

  • @katinaanimator Yeah I never really liked him either, but I think I like Telly less.

  • I haven't been able to get this out of my head for days. My 5 year old granddaughter thinks I'm silly. It's such a great song.

  • @nastypup I cant wait to drive my 6 year old son crazy singing this! Lolz.

  • I am so tired of people making Twilight reference jokes for anything with a Vampire or a Werewolf on it. It got old shortly after the first movie came out!

  • as a kid, I used to wish I could grow up and go visit everyone on Sesame street...haha

  • my top 3 favorite sesame street characters when i was 6 were

    1. The Count

    2. Grover

    3. Elmo

  • fuck team edward ; team count ;)

  • sweet you learn to count and dance at the same time

  • hahahaha I love this when I was a kid..I love to see those bats XD

  • I'd love to dance with you Count.:-)

  • if you watch alot of OLD movies, the count seems oldly human...and kind of professorish

  • My favorite growing up :)

  • my fav halloween vid~lol:)

  • I remember this from when I was a kid. I love this!!!

  • This is cool awesome count-

then Elmo came and took away his countess, castle, and then fangs D:

I'm only showing my kids the old seasme st. when I grow up

  • @XxM00nSHADExX: Yeah. Jerry Nelson (his performer) being sick from a bout with cancer doesn't help either. Same for the Fraggle Rock film, where it is hoped he also reprises Gobo & Majory (The Trash Heap).

  • @XxM00nSHADExX Agreed!!!

  • @XxM00nSHADExX Same with me. There is no school like the old school.

  • I'm sat here at the computer with my earbuds in, singing along, whilst my hubby watches TV! At 33 I still love this song!

  • It really gets me that the Count always sings along to klezmer tunes.

  • this was on one of my sons videos back in 97 and this song drove me nuts lol

  • I remember hearing this when I was growing up. I was always afraid of the Count when I was a baby, watching this.

  • this is why i have to love youtube. someone found batty bat! lololol this is another one of these things i thought i imagined/ made up lol

  • Nearly all the best Sesame Street songs were sung by the Count, and this one is probably my favourite.

  • Who are the 9 losers who disliked this???

  • @PalePrudence Now it's 10... shame on them, they have no inner child.

Even at 22, I'm improvising dancing the Batty Bat!

  • YAY!! I remember this from Sesame street when I was young, and this song in particular.

No-one believed me when I told them about it, thank god I was right!!

Loved this, thank you for posting it

  • batty, batty, batty, batty, batty, batty, batty....weeeeeee...ahaha. love it, thank you : ))

  • I love this. I smiled the whole time I was watching it. Im still smiling. Im so grateful for YouTube I never thought Id see this ever again. :)

  • I love this. I smiled the whole time I watched it

  • COUNT WAS A PIMP!

  • I miss the old sesame street. Looks like it's time to get out the old VHS tapes.

  • And I was looking for TrueBlood xD

  • It just makes you smile. I love it. There is nothing like these classics. God bless Sesame Street! 1-2-3 spread out the cape, 1-2-3 twirl 'round the floor... Ah... childhood.

  • What type of accent does he hae LOL its sad i remember watching this on teliision being five or so

  • i still have the tape to listen to and i know most of the songs i love this song!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm trying to find the scene where he gets to count the bats, and they get to count the counts.

If anyone can provide it to me, and it includes the comment "Ah, you are a terrible mirror. No reflection on you, ofcourse.", I will love you your way.

    Can you help me?

P.S. If I've got two vague childhood recollections mixed up in the same scene, forgive me. If so, I want to find them both. If not, I want to find it.

  • @naganokumas: "You are a terrible mirror" comes from the short snipet before The Song of the Count (his theme song, outside of this song here [The Batty Bat]).

  • what a classic!!!! gets stuck in my head too often lol

  • Count is definitely a russian jew lol

  • I hate sesame street now. It was so good back when I was a kid. They ruined it... :(

  • When I was younger I used to go round the house with a towel round my shoulders and sing, "123 BATTY BATTY BAT!"

  • omg i used to date this palestinian guy who looked AND SOUNDED just like the count....and see, when i was a kid i had a crush on the count so i was diggin hom...god he was good in bed ugghhhhhhhhh

  • ...minus the beard

  • me and my mother used dance to this when i was a young kid 22 years ago stil is the one of the best times of my ife before life was so hard and trying on a soul mom where ever you are just think of your first and oldest son some times

  • From the cold and poverty-stricken region of the Carpathian mountains to becoming an international superstar receiving top billing on one of the most popular television shows of all time.

The Count achieved the American Dream through counting.

  • @Squiddicus And that children, is why you should learn math...

  • @Squiddicus I guess he picked he right street! It probably went something like this!

Count- 41 streets... Let's see... One! One street! Ah-ah-ah! Two! Two streets! Ah-ah-ah!

    ~38 streets later~

Count- Hmm... All out of streets to count... I might as well live here then! Sesame Street... Oh look at all the funny looking people here! I will count them!

    One! One person! Ah-ah-ah!

  • The Count was probably the most child-friendly vampire in the world. He was not meant to be scary, just silly and eccentric. He taught countless children that counting can be fun.

  • @operafan31 He also taught that 'darkness' did not necesarily mean evil. It could just mean mysterious.

  • the coolest vampy on planet.....

  • the count was the original pimp

  • does anyone else think he looks a bit like Serj Tankian? hehe and I sooo love this song reminds me of my childhood aahhh before Sesame street sold out those were the days :)

  • My theme song for bat wings, no the other kind of bat wings...LMFAO!!!

  • I have a video of myself with 3 years old using a little towel as wings and dancing this with my cousins

    man, I miss my childhood

  • My mom and I were talking about this song today and I told her I would find it. You can find ANYTHING on youtube!! hehe Go Count!!

  • Who's Edward Cullen?

  • @dornabri Edward Cullen is the guy from Twilight...I think......not sure haven't read them! *shrug*

  • i used to do this when i was like 6 or 7 and get my towel nd use that as my wings/cape! man i was so cool as a child :)

  • Edward Cullen may be sparkly, but does he have a horde of squeaky singing and dancing bats? Or the most awesome pipe organ in the universe?

  • @ChaosControlled123: Plus, he doesn't have the longevity that Sesame Street brings.

  • OH MY GOD!!!! I found it! This is one of my mom's favorite songs from when we were kids but we lost the tape. Never thought I'd hear it again. Thank you S St. for putting us all these old videos!

  • i tried to copy the embed code into video converter but failed. Why is that so? I need to convert into mp3 version so that my children can dance to its music. Please advice. Thank you

  • Is the Count still part of Sesame Street, or did they ruin that too?

  • He's gone, and that sucks compared too old stuff.

  • I remember this from my "Put Down the Duckie" cassette!! It's so great to see the music video, and the song is exactly how I remember it. I would dance around my room using my arms as wings; and I still do The Batty Bat today!

How long has it been? ^__^

  • Ni Dracula ni Lestat ni Eduard el vampiro por excelencia XDDDD el mejor

  • LOVE LOVE LOE. I remembering grabbing my favorite beach towel creating wings for me, and I would flap my "wings" and run and twirl around the house to this song for hours. I was obsessed.

  • OMG! Haven't seen this in 10 years!

  • this is one of my old time favs!!!!!!!

  • MEMORIES :D

  • Doing the batty batty bat ^_^

  • I always loved this song growing up.

  • Always loved this song!

  • dint they cancel this guy

  • Yes because vhtey had to make room for the craziness of merry and cartoons that barely were semsame street.Kick whoever desighned te person who desighned the newer episodes.

  • The first thing my daughter ever did was imitate the Count's laugh. She loved dancing and singing to this song.

  • Now we know how to read the Sesam Street sign.

  • O. M. G. I TOTALLY REMEMBER THIS SONG!

  • When I was a kid, I would have been so scared to be all alone in a room full of freaky bats.

I now think this is so funny! LOL!

I really liked the Count. He was such a character!

  • i can remember jumping to my feet when this song came on my tv and dancing along with count.

  • LOL GREAT TIMES

  • I miss the 80"s and the 90's SS before Elmo World came on.

  • can you beleive that the writer of underworld origanally thought of the count while he created Kraven i couldnt eather

  • @VampireGuardian14: Funny, since Jerry Nelson channeled his inner Bela L. (the ORIGINAL film Dracula) when performing The Count, especially in his earlier years, with a creepier laugh and hypnosis powers. XD

  • The count makes me lol :))

  • The Count is by far the best of anyone on Sesame street

  • no way!!! wow, it's so cool how much i remember of sesame street lol.

  • Same with me.

  • Are you serious?

  • There's a Belmont in the castle...

  • i forgot how adorable those bats were

  • Yeah,I did,too.They are so cute!

  • Yes, the bats are cute.

I have to hand it to the Count...he sure knows how to bust a move on the dance floor.

  • This is BRILLIANT! My Dad still sings this to me!

  • right now I'm showing this to my 2 year old cosin and she loves it!!!!

  • Strangely...this is one of those episodes I remember very very well...decades ago. XD
