Thank you University of Missouri for offering all this information for free. I am an adult student who has had an unfortunate past but still nonetheless blessed to be at a wonderful University, I now have to satisfy math classes and having never had algebra (graduate 1988) not even in H.S. I failed my math82 class and I believe I failed because giving defininitions and reasons why we do what we do was not a part of the course. Teachers can learn from this instructor how to best teach this sub.

I am taking College Algebra this fall semester, I am wondering how difficult it is compared to Intermediate Algebra, which I thought was (for the most part) very easy. So should I be worried any?

He mentions a few times in the first video when going over some of the concepts that the students 'should be familiar with' them, etc.. And really, who knows which college he is teaching at. Although their is a somewhat behemoth structure of 'universal education' in America and western countries, the individual institutions themselves vary, financially, ethnically, intellectually and so on. Cirriculum may be close to standardized, but the mode of teaching it not so much.

@ilysillybilly American schools cover this material just as well. But who remembers what they learned in grammar school? Most people forget so we review it high school before going on to algebra, geometry, and trig, and then again in college before moving on to calculus and statistics. Even then most people who take math only learn how to use the algorithms to solve problems, they never learn how the algorithms work.

@NFLmanic so do we, but college freshman are required to retake basic algebra course again.. We get college credit for advanced HS mathematics.

Learning this subject matter would be just as valuable to him/her as it would to an American with the same experience or level of education.
