The one thing about Steven that nobody knows about is the amount of politics that goes into who he fights. Don't think you are going to walk into Steven's Dojang in Sugarland and spar him, he doesn't want to look like a chump being knocked out. The Olympic committee is very selective who he actually fights. People have beaten the crap out of him, but the score won't show it because he is their little "poster boy". I know this because I use to train my own students with his and know him well.

Yep, unfortunately I am serious. I used to think he was the best as well, until I watched his brother having a conversation with an elite judge (I can't say when and where b/c he would know who i am if he were to read this) but his hand went to his pocket then shook hands w/the official and the judges hand went to his pocket from there. Needless to say Steven won that fight by a huge margin, when you watch the vid it would have been a tie easily. Cant say for sure but it was REAL fishy. POLITICS

Already happened. Many MMA fighters have black belts in Taekwondo. Cung Le is one example even though his primary striking style is San Shou. The ATA for example has many of their black belts cross over successfully into MMA.

steve lopez is one of the two men in entire TKD tournament history holds four world titles, but his matches are not exciting or entertaining at all. His exciting when he goes out on attack, and def. uses his lead leg side kick as awesome offensive/defensive. He needs to do attacks more than clinching.

I give Steven his respect, I have seen his matches and he is good, but he is, by far, not the greatest TKD competitor I have seen out there, to include myself. And as far as (awsome7052), you obviously haven't been around the TKD sport long enough to make this type of comment. 2004 was the first olympics that TKD became an offial sport.2000 was only an exibition. SO, how can Steven be the "greatest in TKD olympic history". (Get off Steven's nut sack).

Um...you should really check your facts first if you're going to berat someone else for lacking knowledge. TKD was an exibition sport in '88 and '92, in both 2000 and 2004 it was a medal sport, and Steven won gold both years.

Steven Lopez should be banned from competition until he begins complying with WTF rules. He consistantly cheats by violating the following rule: [Article 14, Section 5, Rule H]. "A contestant shall not butt or attack with the knee". Definition of "butt": To hit or push against. To project against an object with force. He has cheated for years and gotten away with it.I suggest he should be banned and anyone who warps the purpose of a taekwondo match this way should also be banned.

Did you see Aaron Cook of UK k.o. him with a double off the clinch? How pleasurable to watch. And anyone who has seen Korean Nationals can see that there is no comparison in terms of quality and degree of skill. Lopez is nothing more than a talented exploiter of gaps in a rule system.He succeeds above others because he devotes all of his efforts to shutting down his opponents game, instead of engaging in battle for supremacy. taekwondo is speed and power steven has it that is why he always win. what he is doing looks very easy but if you're inside the court it is not that easy to make a points. My son looked up to him.

its a sport in the same way that boxing is. among the light weights speed is the key. among the heavy weights, you still have to be fast, but more emphasis is on power. the same is true with any fighting style that relies on scoring points in order to win.

the point are not like karate points; they are full contact points...there is a difference. they will count a pop to the head as a point, but you have to hity the chest protector hard to get a point. even so, you are allowed to hit with as much power as you want, and many do; hence the broken robs, and KO's.

When I first got into tae kwon do, I looked up to him and Juan Moreno (for those of you who know tkd you should know who he is) they are both great, and I had the privilege of meeting him in 2004 at the junior olympics were I was sparring, a great guy and fighting... STOP BEING HATERS
