Not read other comments but with the manifold getting that hot I'd say the ignition advance may be too retarded, and why is it not wrapped or ceramic coated at least?

What a load of bullocks ollyb360. No CTI or other road 205 has a turbo. CTI had either a 1.6 180Z or B6D code or a 1.9 DFZ code engine with normal intake. And heywaslauftmann, it's not recommended to add a turbo to a DFZ as it's a low-emission, low-compression engine. Better mount an XU10T from a 405 T16 which is a much more hassle-free conversion.
I liked the sound when the engine was first started. I have owned 3 1.9's so i appreciate how good the rally version must be to drive. Nice car indeed!!!
Read the other comments and you can see what the car is... Please take time to read the other stuff if you want to know what this car is all about. I will take you comment off again as its a waste of space.
Rev limited to 7200 could go to 8,500 but not with me paying the bills! Plus I personal think the reality of most T16 E1 and E2's is 380 to 450 BHP but who can say as not many people have ever seen them on rolling roads and word of mouth soon exaggerates them up to and beyond 550 but I have never seen official Peugeot team say anything about 450 BHP. Worth remembering that the raod car has 200 so even 400 was a hell of an achievement 20 years ago.
Group B is complete and utter car porn. Were you running it on pump fuel? I love the slowly sideways group for keeping GRP-B cars going, shame their limited though now, though like yours you probably wouldnt get long before rebuild at full power
No it wont run on Pump fuel hence the flames! We dont have any restrictions in Slowly Sideways Club other than out own desire to keep the cars running at a cost that each person can cope with. The car is still the fastest car I have ever driven because it is so light at 1120 kgs.
ohh right i thought they were limited, so said the dvd i watched. Thanks for clearing that up, i wanted to go to the Oulton Park day but was a leeds fest, would love to hear the sound of em all been beasted!
Hmnn, in another video here on youtube, where Stig Blomqvist drives several of these cars, it is explicitly stated several times that the BHP is restricted for these cars nowadays. Is this not the case?
I have also seen much in print but I don't know of anyone in Peugeot saying above 400 bhp, Rally Cross say 650 bhp but don't forget that 20 year ago 400 was amazing! Given that the cars back then had to do 2000 mils per event on 5-day rallies and had to be reliable.
i understand all your saying and i think you have a nice car ,the work to change from road car to evo2 is immence i know as im in the middle of doing such a conversion ,most people look at the rear to see the differences but there is even more work in the front ,we will see when car finished as to what people think
I think its almost imposable to make an E2 out of a road car! Its very, very difficult to make an E1 out of a road car in fact in 1985 Peugeot sold the kit to make a road car into an E1 and it sold for £38,000 then! The cost of a full E2 will be unbelievable. What parts have you started with?
The car was originally built by Peugeot Sport UK for a wealthy private American Driver called John Woodner in 1985. He competed in the 205 T16 in the American rally championship in 1995/6 and ran alongside the factory team entry of Juha Kankkunen in 1986 when Kankkunen finished 2nd on the American round of the world rally championship the Olympus Rally.
In 1996 John Woodner was killed in a stunt plan accident and the car was parked in his garage along with several other specialist sports cars. In 2000 a New Zealand rally driver and business man Peter Johnson persuaded Woodners widow to release the car and an extensive re-build program was undertaken.
The car was completely stripped by lead engineer Ron MaCmillen who took several years to complete an incredible restoration project that included developing and integrating some new technologies into the build in order to make the car as reliable as possible.
In reality the cars original engine would have given about 280 BHP but by using a more advanced Petrol fuel injection system, modern WRC turbo fuel and utilizing high performance parts such as a turbo from a WRC 206 car the T16 now gives over 400 BHP. Although for normal test events the engine is limited by rev counter to 7200 RPM and 310 BHP.
The 205 T16 chassis was developed by Peugeot engineers for rallying with 2005 road car versions being made for homologation and only 20 of these cars being made into Evolution 1 or E2 the car is a very rare beast. It is 4 wheel drive with a 1775 cc Turbo rear engine and 6 speed rear mounted gearbox. It weighs 1120 kg and all but the roof panes are carbon fibre. The chassis is made rigged with an integrated steel roll cage and fuel tank is situated under the drivers seat.
The Car was build by Peugeot Uk in 1998 as an E1 for american driver Jon Woodner, then some E2 parts fitted by Factory team wilst completing in US. Rebuilt in 2003 by Peter Johnson in NZ using some more E2 and some new 206 WRC car parts such as Turbo and Injection.
The car has a rev cut off at 7500rpm. it can go to 8500. works cars (E2) went to 9000 so no idea what BHP it really has! Im happy with 300 at wheels with 1200kgs as its very fast as it is... LOL
Is that 300 bhp at the wheels about 400 bhp+ on the engine?
I thought the latest Rallycross / Pikes Peak style engines even running over 600 bhp, very nice :)
Imagine that with new turbo technology, ALS and electronics, like Hansen's Citroen or Gollop's or Paillier's Peugeot, without the 45mm restrictor... That would be a animal!
Nice video Kev. About time we got a little update in Torque magazine on the T16, especially if it is featuring in a new game ;) Hopefully we will see it in action at Pugfest this year! (sorry for the plug Kev!)
