She was extremely beautiful - but she looked to me to be a lady from Afghanistan or Iran or from that region. But of course she was born in Delhi, India. If only her father had allowed her to meet the Hollywood producer/direcor Frank Capra in 1952 she could have had treatment for her heart disease in USA and who knows ...

I believe both her parents were Pathan immigrants from Afghanistan - Madhubala was born and bred in India tho :)

And yes, it would have been great to see Madhubala in Hollywood! She would have been big over here, I think.

Like Katherine Hepburn, Madhubala was something like a fine wine. Beauty and acting-wise, she only improved with age!

I meant beauty wise, not acting wise. I guess her full acting potential erupted in Mughal Azam. Taking a dagger from Salim and putung at Akbar's feet was enough to win her the best actres award that year.

Madhubala had always been a great beauty and amazing actress, and her portrayal of Anarkali in Mughal E Azam was certainly her definitive role.

I do think she peaked looks-wise in Mughal E Azam too - did you see her performing "Mohe Panghat Pe Nandlal"? She'd never been more beautiful!
