@walkabout16 Ah, thanks, I'm drinking Cooper's Green (South Australian Commercial Top-Fermented Bottle-Conditioned 4.5%), at the moment. I prefer the Red, at 5.3%, but y' can drive on 2 Stubbies of Green whereas with Red it's only 1 and a half. If I made homebrew, it'd be cheaper, & I'd drink too much. I've seen it happen. People brew in 100 Litre Garbage Cans. When y' visit, it's "Help me drink the Fridge, I need to use the bottles again, tomorrow !"
I enjoyed the fun you both had making this video - that's what it's all about. i would like to put your video on my website: makingbeerisfun Let me know if you don't mind. Thanks!
Just wondering..I know this is a stupid question, but does the home-made beer naturally become carbonated itself? Or do you have to add carbonation somehow?
This is very cool. But you didn't say how strong the beer will be.
Apart from that it looks like a fun and satisfying endeavour. Thanks Kidbom, now got to try it for meself. I'll never have to go down the bottle shop ever again.:)
I'm still waiting to see ONE homebrewer doing it the proper way, but I think that'll never happen... Why do people rely on friends, homebrew shops and other wanna-bes for advice on how to make beer? Why not ask a real brewer and maltster? Oh, I forgot - you don't have brewers in America, it's enough to read a book to call oneself a "brewer". Hence the "quality" of those beers... poor world!
Poor you. You spend all day on the internet trying to find somebody that is brewing the "proper way" instead of people that are just trying something for themselves while having a little fun.
wow your capasity for creating comebacks is really declining now its only one word, and by the way thank you for calling me special i think i am to, i am a real credit to society where as you are the toilet paper i wipe my ass with.
those are beer for wussies xD (i live where they make those beers and i asure you they are for wussies)... go and get some ABA from Stone Brewery you won't regret that!!!!
Oh and to add to my other comment, if you use the kind of bucket that cannot be closed (the ones without an airlock), you want to do a secondary after 1 week or before (4 days is ok). Before that period there's enough activity and CO2 comming out so the nasties wont come in, but after that you want to use a carboy to prenvent contamination,
Don't worry... It's not even a rule to do a secondary fermentation. Sometimes I only do primary. The purpose of doing a secondary fermentation is to leave most of the dormant yeast behind so the beer can clear easily. However if you plan to leave the wort inisde the primary for more than 1 month you should also do a secondary since yeast will start to do autolysis (eating dead yeast), which gives off flavor.
OOOK good please shut up.. Your a idiot its all done the same fucking way you stupid fuck I hope you get rammed in the ass tonight for you stupid ass commments..
I agree that he's being a douche, but if you're going to call him an idiot please use better grammar and punctuation. It makes you look just as bad otherwise.
Actually, "American beer" ranges from 3 to 5+% just like everywhere else. Your comment shows a lack of knowledge. What does ale, stout, pils, steam, porter, et, et, et all average across the planet? Or are you comparing Budweiser to every other type of beer in the world? Here's a question, what is the alc content of domestic Guiness??
1. most people dont put the grains in a muslin bag like these guys do but they most likely left them in there for 30 or so mins.
2. ALWAYS boil with the top off!!! Its a key step to good beer.
3. Its not necessary to strain out hops since they dissolve in the wort( if you are using hop pellets). However some people dont like the residue left behind. Add bittering hops at the start of the boil, and flavoring/aroma hops at the end of the boil.
Actually I started it back in September. It turned out quite a bit stronger than I had anticipated - both a.b.v. and flavor-wise. It's about 20% and has quite a strong bite to it.
I started a pineapple mango mead in November...and it's slowly still going at about 12 percent abv. It's quite strong, more of a wine. I think I'll sweeten it heavily with honey and maybe a little pineapple juice when it's done this summer.
@kidbom Have you tried any gluten free beer brewing?. I made banana honey millet beer, it tastes great, and has the same alcohol content if not more! ,and its way easier to digest .
hey my 2 boys , you guys could be 2 millionares in this recession time 2012 , but you have to accept foodstamp, trust me then email me .

Okay, I'm a noob brewer.
2 weeks primary fermentation in a carboy? I just finished 4 days primary in a bucket before racking into my secondary ...

suppose to put the wort chiller in the boiling water at least 15 minutes to sanitize it.
Also, can you a hop bad so you don't have to worry about any straining.
Decent video though.

The best thing I found about homebrewing was not being anal. It is a hobby, pleasure, source of enjoyment. Don't be work-like anal on your off time.

how long do u hold the bag with grains in water?
and do u always boil with top off?
how long do u strain out hops.
