  • I can't stop listening to this song!!

  • This song gives me a boner.

  • Cool video. Unique. Her voice is so good to listen to as well. Lyrics also is well done.

  • Much better version of PJ playing Dress live, here:

    watch?v=XmypljvTBWA

  • I don't see this annoying comparison with Patti Smith. Seems like a lot of peeps just parroting what they've seen or read somewhere. PJ has far more variety in her music, and her voice sounds nothing like Patti's. Furthermore Patti tended to indulge in long improvisations of songs lasting several minutes. PJ's songs even when performed live hardly last much over 4 minutes. She rarely allows a guitar solo in a song.So where's the similarity?

  • too many comments not enuff listening. i.e shut the fuck up else go

  • STUNNING

  • I say this unashamedly... Polly Jean is by far the superior of her influence, Patti Smith.

  • @Kainlarsen shes always said Patti wasnt an influence to her

  • @therunawaycameback17 Really?

Well, that's a relief. Patti Smith sucks.

  • @Kainlarsen No she doesnt i really like her i'm just saying that PJ has said that any comparisons between the two of them are "lazy journalism" which is true because without really knowing her music you could make that mistake

  • @therunawaycameback17 Just giving my opinion, friend. From what I have heard of Patti's stuff, and from having seen the 'dream of life' documentary, I really don't think she's very good at all.

  • @Kainlarsen i respect your opinion and to be fair Patti is an acqiured taste you hav to be into that kind of music. Pj harvey is alot more melodic compared to Patti

  • haters of GO

  • LESBIAN ANTHEMS

  • @nycsoulsista

    By whos standards?? yours? Laughable.

  • Kurt Cobain said "Dry" is among his favorite albums.

  • what's the story with the cardboard cards?

  • @manbeaver508 looks like he's not the only one

  • something for upskirters, eh? the bit with the bedsheet is good though.

  • YES!

  • I feel like this song is the prequel Man Size, or Man Size its sequel. the videos even seem to reference it...this song is one of the reasons I'm sad PJ didn't continue writing albums like Dry

  • @Alec0209 If she continued writing albums like Dry,then she would be repeating herself and wouldn't be a true artist.

  • This video probably cost next to nothing to make. Being a brilliant musician certainly helps.

  • the dress is moving because she is farting. @ :30 sec

  • @moonpeep you asshole

  • si te lo ponés, si te lo ponéss

  • 26 people don't mind being forced to wear beautiful dresses

  • Great Artist !

  • w pytę

  • One of the best female artists of all time

  • @smurftoasty one of the best artists of all time.

  • i love you dearly for posting this.

  • wtf U-2 is from the sevendies get ur music strait

  • @idiotbang U2 is from the 80s wtf get your music straight

  • @idiotbang Dont make comments if you dont know what you are talking about. appropriate name by the way

  • She reminds me of Bif Naked, but more subtle...

  • She reminds me of Bif Naked, but more subtle...

  • @MistressMyrtle: Who on earth is Bif Naked when he's at home?

  • her first 3 albums were amazing.............havent heard anything quite like her since

90's were the last best generation of music..............

  • @dagobaker stop your bitchin. sure the 00´s were the worst piece of crap that anyone have ever called music since like 2000 BC. but we can always look forward to the 10´s i mean soundgarden reunion and an awesome band called Dinosaur pile-up coming upp with a debut album..

  • @MrSuperBigFuzz The 00's weren't that bad! In fact they were as good as any other decade. You had The Strokes, The White Stripes, The YYY's

  • @annaakhmatova well yea sure the strokes made a good album but i never where a fan of white stripes or the YYY's. greenhornes and silversun pickups made amazing albums tho.

  • @MrSuperBigFuzz Well what about Deerhunter/Atlas Sound, Beirut, Beach House, Yeasayer and that kinda Psychadelic explosion? The music is there if you look for it. If you look back onthe ninties what was populer was shit, it was the same as any other decade.

  • @annaakhmatova yea you are right the mainstream music always will be average/bad but the underground stuff isnt as good now as it were 25 years ago but that dosent mean that there are bad underground music today. just saying

  • I remember when PJ hit the scene. For me she filled the gap left when Pattis Smith retired years previously.

  • I was listening to this when it was new and to this day I don't know what to say.

    Awesome.

  • Great song! WHFS (Washington DC) had a version recorded in the studio that was just her and an acoustic guitar, and it totally ROCKED! I wish I could find it somewhere, but it was never released commercially.

  • I love the exhilarating feeling you get right towards the end of the song.

  • one of the best choruses i have ever heard

  • ooo i want a human size puzzle

  • Like something David Lynch would direct.

  • As much credit as she gets, PJ is still so underrated. She is such a musically groundbreaking, influential, original artist. Sure to be considered a legend in the future. And, of course, Goddamn she rocks. Where the HELL is music like this these days?! "Because the music they constantly play, Says nothing to me about my life, Hang the Clear Channel, hang the Clear Channel, hang the Clear Channel!"

  • when was this song released?

  • @xxadorexx It was on her debut album, Dry, released in 1992.

  • @xxadorexx It was on her debut album, Dry, released in 1992.

  • @xxadorexx It was on her debut album Dry, released in 1992.

  • filthy tight the dress is filthy ..a fallen woman in a dancing costume..must be a way that i can dress to please him .. this reminds me of a portishead song that says i just want to be a woman cause it's all i want to be..

  • PJ HARVEY ROX

  • I love the groove in this song.

  • 'Molly's Chambers' anyone?

  • @antidisestablishmism

not so, all songs in the world are like a thousand other songs

  • At her best, loved it so much when it came out, the thought of having such a clever, beautiful and talented artist like her in my growing record collection was too tempting for a lad of 16, still play it today on vinyl and still wowwed.

  • classic song, kinda boring video - like they had 1.5 minutes of footage for a 3 minute song.

    still, CLASSIC song.

  • The best song of PJ!

  • makes me dance :)

  • J'aime beaucoup le rythme de cette chanson !

  • great song!

  • PJ is a great artist and this album is just simply the best for me.

  • wow this takes me back. her legendary concert at slim's in s.f. (s.f. is the best for concerts cuz many artists before they "officially" begin their tour do the first date there, then finish their tour with their last date there, so u can see 'em twice. pj harvey's 1st u.s. tour was no exception to that. unfortunately too many artist o.d. on the pure heroin there too!

  • "Dry" remains Polly Jean's best.

  • @TIMOTHYSAARINEN You posted that comment a year ago, and it still holds true as of this day!

  • gosh, Rid of Me's not the first one

  • she's great

  • could somebody tell me which album is the best?

    i want to buy one.

  • Buy all. I grew up on Dry, and I love To Bring You My Love and Uh Huh Her perhaps more than the others, but actually all six are great, and have such songs that stay with you.

  • Stories from the City, this was the first album I bought that got me into Polly. A very good album indeed.

  • yeah stories from the city..was my first albumn i bought of her too :) it's a PHENOMONAL album

  • I can't choose, so go for the first...

  • To Bring You My Love, but in the end you'll end up buying all of them

  • @TheKarmaPoliceman I started with To Bring You My Love and have all of them, so I can vouch for this.

  • you should start with the fist one: Rid of Me

  • You should start with the first one: Rid Of Me

  • all of them.

  • @ TheBlueschahaafe- its all about personal preference which you like the best and what mood you're in. I honestly could not pick a favourite they are all awesome but i would start with either Is This Desire or Stories from the city, stories from the sea. The stories.. one for sure is the most accessable. But yeah all equally rock

  • PJ Harvey rocks...been a fan from early days

  • i jizzed in my pants

  • massa!!

  • best PJ song ever. fact.

  • err no actually. opinion, not fact. fact.

  • dresss

  • live at the reading festival this song title is the sh*t

  • When I first heard this song I hit repeat quite a few times. I love the guitar in the middle.

  • yeah its great, sounds similar to the pixies style of guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • This song makes me wanna fuck

  • you're absolutely right!

  • Anyone know a list of artists like PJ?

Not "like" PJ but with the same sound, the vibe, etc.

  • for old stuff patti smith's 'horses' album. for new stuff check out emily breeze.

  • Try some stuff by The Kills.. 'Getting Down' is kinda like this song.. "Last Day of Magic' is my favorite by them though...

  • Glad there's another Alison fan! They're both really good, thugh PJ's a little bit more Grundjy.

  • UK alternative music was wonderful before Shitpop came along and everyone voted for Tory Bliar.

  • massa !!!

  • PJ jest niesamowita. Jak i płyta Dry, którą słucham i słucham i nasłuchać się nie mogę.

    Love you, Polly.

  • Jak miło zobaczyć tu polskich fanów ^^

  • I love this song!

  • yess pj, love her

  • that's sad.

  • why's that? I don't literally do this, I meant the way she's singing it, with such sarcasm and contempt for people that actually do this =P

  • @poeticjournalism o gotcha

  • I am no longer flaccid.

  • lmao

  • Amazing

  • Last week I listened to Dry for the 1st time in ages. Dress & the other songs still sound fresh and bold. An amazing album.

  • Minimum effort, maximum effect. That's the way to do it.

  • I had a video of Vernon Reid (Living Colour) guest programming Rage (Australia). He chose this as one of his faves. However, every time it came on, I'd fast-forward it.

If only i had taste back then..... I'm a dickhead!

  • I love PJ and I love how her videos are not all "omg look how hot and beautiful and sexy I am"

She's amazing without trying too hard

  • exactly

  • I actually think that's the point she's trying to make with this song, both with female musicians and women in real life. well except for the amazing part, as PJ Harvey being awesome is a given =)

  • @lemonkooler

    Well said :)

  • @lemonkooler And she still is really hot and sexy!!!

  • PJ Harvey _ Down by the Water

  • This video is not available in your country.

  • this is god damn brilliant!

  • It's true, music seems less innovative or "alternative" these days, Problem being its all about money now, even to the artists themselves, not just the labels. If i could do it and pay the rent and pay to live, thats my dream come true, but to them today its about fame and fortune. The labels see what sells, and start a production line of the same old shite, becasue it sells. The cash hungry whores who run the labels need to be replaced with people who appreciate art, then music will return.

  • I could die for this music....PJ I LOVE YOU

  • woo hoo fantastic

  • I LOVE this song. the atmosphere it has is amazing..

  • Watch "max kd drive"

  • still a jaw dropping song...

  • Remember when alternative music really was alternative? Edgy, dark, arty, not bland wannabe-U2 stuff or fashionable hipster elevator music.

  • If only current artists were this interesting, talented, or innovative what a wonderful world it would be.

  • @mostmusicisbad i didnt live through it but thats the music i live for :') my generation sucks though, thinking bands like paramore (EW) are amazing and alternative hahahahahaha

  • @mostmusicisbad yes. I remember it like it was yesterday, because it was yesterday. In fact, it is also today. There's a lot of fine alternative music today that doesn't fit the template you just outlined.

  • @mostmusicisbad I even remember when U2 was edgy, dark and arty...

  • @mostmusicisbad yeah, everybody has to think they need to sound like Coldplay/other if-Radiohead-made-elevator-music sounding bands

  • It´s beautiful video!! And song! I love her:)

  • this track, makes me want to have beautiful meaningless sex, does anyone know what i mean? it's all about that snare sound... it's rampant, makes me wanna have my way with someone

  • couldn`t agree more

  • And then Britpop came along and goodbye Grunge and Shoegazing.

  • good old days :) one of my fav. I love her dress too :) specially with a huge photo of her album coverz :D

  • this is one of my favourite PJ songs,

    a really neat vid too.

  • - Good Times

    - Good times

  • dat's some wicked woman..

  • Her best song

  • The song is great but the video is pretty lame :-/

  • starts like one of nirvana's songs...

  • Like one of Nine Inch Nails, too (it should be Mr. Self-Destruct, if I remember that right).

  • you know youre right)

  • :-)

  • eh.. dude this song was recorded waaay before Nirvana's 'you know your right' xD

  • Does it matter theyre both great songs..

  • true
