@job1181 Nope. I'm reading your post and you need to read you manual again bro. Or you could go to Ruger or CCI's site and read it. Your the one giving the false info. Sorry if you didn't know. Facts are facts. I just though you should know. I even went and double checked before I posted. I'd you do that? No. Fail.
Useing the velocitors in the marlin. There is less than 2 3/4 inch difference between 50 and 100yards. Have yet to crack a yote ,but foxes go down hard out to 85 yrds so far on body shots with this ammo.
@Thestealthfighterguy you're reading jigsaw's post, not mine, my manual said not to use stingers in 10/22s period. He said his specified target and charger models. When I called ruger they said not to use them and did not specify a certain model. If you can't even read posts correctly...well that says alot. You're just pissy because I called you out on your bullshit and I'm certainly not going to argue rate of flame erosion in a .22lr barrel. End of discussion.
Would you recommend this round in an M&P 15-22 for home defense? I'm comfortable with the weapon, and I can easily take repeat shots. Over-penetration is a concern or I'd use one of my larger weapons. I live in an urban area.
I wouldn't use this on anything smaller than a 25lbs class coon for hunting purposes unless you're really spot on about your head shots. When I was first testing this stuff out I body shot a number of squirrles and rabbits and to say it was messy would be putting it lightly. Sometimes if they're close you get a .223 style explosion. But for medium range small game these are hard to beat, if you carry a .22lr for CCW even better. I've dropped an 80lbs charging pittbull with just 2 head shots.
Barrel Length Question: I am looking at getting a 22 LR rifle in semi auto such as the Ruger 10/22. Barrel length goes from 16 to 20 inches. I am leaning toward 16 inch barrel. Is their a significant advantage to having an 18 or 20 inch barrel?
@frankgon4 Naturally, I would tell you to go with a longer barrel. But please hear this:
The gun is only as accurate as the shooter. The 9lb trigger pull of the 10/22 will affect you way more than the few inch or two on the barrel. No real difference in accuracy, friend. Just keep practicing.
Great choice on the rifle, though. The 10/22 costs more than most other semi .22's, but is a wonderful lifelong product. Really, you did great.
@frankgon4 the advantage is that the bullet in subsonic and most high velocity ammo will reach max velocity from 16-18 inches, but anything higher than 1250fps ( cci brand velocitors, stingers, segmented hollow point, and aguila brand interceptors and supermaximim hyper velocity) usually keeps going faster till about 24-28 inches. as far as accuracy goes, that's more dependent on the bore than the barrel length. 16in or 20in factory barrel will both shoot with about the same accuracy.
@Jsmooth7444 I would check your manual and then with the factory. Like on a 10/22 they specifically say not to use stingers but when I called the factory they gave me the green light on Velocitor. Of course you probably won't hurt anything, but if by chance you get a squib load and the bullet is stuck in the barrel, your warranty is offcially null when they dig it out and send you the bill.
@jigsaw183 I have no doubt you are correct that in the current manual being sent out that it states a specific model. In my older manual it doesn't make any specific mentions of any models. However just when I called Ruger the guy just told me not to use stingers period and did not make mention of any models it was or was not ok in. As for giving advice, I don't want tell someone that a specific ammo is ok without saying to check with the factory based on my own experience.
@job1181 The REMINGTON bulk ammo (550) is not "ok" My ruger 10/22 is not tempermental but the gun almost threw up in its mouth when it tried to feed those golden bullets. My hands also turned black from loading them.
@job1181 The only 10/22's that cannot use stingers are the 10/22 "target" and"charger" or any 22LR 10/22 or not with a match chamber like in a bull barrel.
@Thestealthfighterguy Not sure what the current factory take is on using stingers in the target or charger version of the 10/22 is, however I'm not sure where you got your info on using stingers in a match chamber or a bull barrel from. I've used plenty of stingers in my rebarreled 10/22s and my other models without issue. All are bull barrels, some have match chambers and some don't. You might want to research before just throwing out false info.
@job1181 Look it up dude. Benz chambers are to tite for stingers. I'm not saying you can't get them to work. I'm saying if you shoot stingers in your match chambered gun long enough it will damage your chamber. If you shoot a 1000 rds of stingers and check you chambers you WILL have a small amount of damage and your groups will slowly get bigger and bigger. You may even have the cases stick in the chamber. Some of us like to know what we're talking about before calling someones info false. TSFG
Very well made video, good information that seems to confirm what I have been saying, CCI has some of the highest quality ammo on the market when compared to its domestic counter parts. Also CCI has a great video of their manufacturing this ammo. What interested me was the QC checking the rim thickness. I have determined the thinner the rim, the closer the bullet is to the throat of the chamber reducing vibrations thus increasing the accuracy, what's your take on rim thickness of the various 22s
I just used remington yellow jackets and found 1 dud for every 5 rounds in the box. they were on sale for $2 a box but worth nothing. Winchester Wildcat or CCI are best.
Stay away from the Remington .22 "Golden bullets", it's crap, LOTS of duds, squib loads, dirty smudgepot ammo even when it does work. Lots of BANG-BANG-poof-BANG-poof......click.......click........awful ammo.
Thanks for the great review! I love CCI ammo for my S&W M&P 15-22. Right now, Mini-mags and Stingers are my favorite, but after seeing this review, I might have to add Velocitors to that list!
I love your detailed reviews and seeing how the slugs perform in ballistic media, this gives me more insight into the rounds that I am putting downrange or using on varmints!
High 1364 low 1294 fps = 70 fps extreme spread means plus or minus 35 fps, that's not really "quite a spread" , not too much ammo gets much tighter than that. Plus or minus 20 fps is considered exceptional.
I always liked Stingers, but recently bought a box of these prior to seeing your review. I think I have a new favorite for my 10/22 and MkII as long as they feed OK; and definitely for my S&W 18. Keep up the great work!
i base what i buy for my small game hunting off of your videos! i went rabbit hunting with the cci mini mag stingers and i had to throw too much meat away, but these velocitos had a much more controled expansion and put more meat in the freezer. im shooting with a ruger 77/22
Awesome review. A review of the Aguila Super Maximum 30 grain would be great, too.
Only semi-complaint I have is that using a bolt gun would have been a better choice to measure the full power of the Velocitors, without the 10/22's blowback action using up some of the energy.
First great video second with a good 21+ inch barrel I have seen velociters crush rabbits at over 250 yards probably one of the better or best rounds for 150+meter shooting
These velocitors are the best. Just the name alone makes them cool. A good mix of hyper velocity and high velocity with a heavy bullet is how I think of them.
i use these for rabbits in my semi auto sterling my bolt action norinco and my bsa martini action, all group within an inch at 50m and with my martini action it keyholes at 50 and 12 inch at 100. i chose these over the stingers because they have about 30lb at 100 yards more energy. its the best round ive found so far for long distance rabbiting. great video really informative.
Although i dont use a .22LR for primary defense when camping out in remote locations, i think after seeing this video, the Velocitor would make the BEST choice for a "camp assault rifle" (10/22) and a BX-25 hicap magazine. Aint nobody gonna mess with my campfire up in the remote sierras! Hahahaha.
I Just Discovered The CCI QUIK SHOC..This is not a bullet to waste on targets....The QUIK Shoc is definately a hunting >>>or even a self defense bullet because of its ability to separate into 3 jagged parts upon impact....Serious 22lr bullet.....Hard to find...
very nice watched your stinger video also, I've always liked the stinger, The velocitor looks great also, even after watching both these video's having a hard time deciding which is better.
The stinger looks like it has more expansion but less penetration.. I dunno.. Anyway great video's.. subbed.
yep, but there are a more faster and powerful .22 lr 40 grains, I'm talking about Aguila Interceptor 1475 fps! really amazing! I hope you can test it soon. Best regards!
In Europe it is an alternative round to the Stinger...because the Stinger ist not a .22 lr ...and does not have the CIP certification.
I had shot some Velocitors from my cz452 varmint rifle....circular error probable is high for me.....In my Sig Sauer P226 .22lr is the velocitor sucks
Absolutely top notch ammo review videos, and I love the picture-in-picture close up on the ranged shots. Thanks for spending so much time doing things right!
Nice review. It would be nice to see you do a similar review of .22 Win Mag as well. I use that a lot for varmint hunting on my farm. I carry it in the tractor and pickup for those pesky ground hogs, the occasional rabid animal and yotes.
You mentioned velocitors would be the choice over the stingers for small game hunting, then why do they make stingers? Is the trajectory easier to adjust for or something with the stingers? Thanks for the videos
That is probably the best uniform expansion on a .22 hollow point I have ever seen.I am going to recommend the Velocitor to a friend who uses the .22 for small game hunting (and show him the video) Thanks for the effort in making the video!
i've been offered a taurus pt-22 for $80 so i figured why not. could this be effective in self defense as a backup gun? after seeing how these cci rounds did i'd say 1 or 2 well placed could stop a threat.
I have read on rimfire forums that stingers and velocitors are hard on buffers in semi auto actions. Have you heard of this? Also, between stinger and velocitor, which would you choose for small game hunting with a rifle?
@txmalcontent You can buy the aftermarket buffers.. They are made of like a plasticized rubber or something. They are much better than the steel ones that the rifles come stock with. And they are literally only a few dollars. I never even shot mine with the steel buffer. I switched it out on the first day. After about 3k+ rounds out of it, it is still going fine. And i have shot everything from aguila supermaximum @ 1750fps (advertised) to bulk winchester and it is still holding up fine.
@txmalcontent Get the CCI SGB small game bullet, flat nose, perfect weight and velocity for accuracy, it's designed to anchor rabbits and squirrels very quickly, and not ruin the meat.
For those asking about pistol: at 10', Out of my Ruger Mark II pistol with 5.5" bull barrel, this ammo clocked at 1140fps for 115 ft-lbs. Aguilla 40gr Interceptors clocked in at 1190fps for 126 ft-lbs. A little more punch in the 40gr weight.
CCI stingers clocked in at 1329fps for 126ft-lbs.
For me, the Stinger is still the king of hunting rounds.
have you ever worried about a bullet or fragment coming back at you after hitting steel? theres a video on youtube where some guy shoots a 50cal at a target far off, and somehow bounces right back at him and smacks him in his ear protection
Not so much with this steel. It is equivalent to light armor plating, the bullets shatter upon impact. This has been the case with everything from .22 LR to 7mm Remington Magnum. I've seen that video several times.
@peptopro17 steel is safe to shoot.... just stand far enough back and there should be no problems. Everyone has seen that video, it is a freak accident. You will probably have more of a chance to be struck by lightning.
@peptopro17 the reason that happened is because they failed to angle the plate downwards so that any ricochets are forced downwards. and it didnt hepl to shoot at armor plate without armor piercing rounds.
These and the CCI Stingers cycle perfectly through my Kimber conversion. With the cheap .22 bulk ammo I get at least one jam per magazine. Too bad they are a bit expensive for plinking. btw the SIM-test looks like a giant flan. Yummy
How do you measure the speed of the bullet? I understand that you use a chronograph. I am interested in seeing/learning how this works. As usual, I enjoy your video's.
@watrocket The bullet activates the chronograph as it passes through the first gate, it starts it's timing sequence, the bullet passes through the second gate, which deactivates the timer. The program runs it's calculations and it gives you the velocity.
Wow i like this ammo so far i been using Remington yellow jackets, the yellows are 7 grains lighter but have a pretty scary velocity advertised at 1500.
If you were a doctor, I would not be in too much of a hurry to get a second opinion. Thanks for taking the time and resources to put this presentation together.
nice ive been looking forward to this for a while and the ammo preforemed really good i cant belive it was knocking down that steel target too, and dont worry the bugs should be gone soon haha
best ballistic ammo reviewer on youtube tnoutdoors
@Alwayscarry1 If it was made after 1933 yes, all the woodsman made after '33 where engineered for high velocity ammo so you might have to do some research on the manufacture date of your colt to be sure if it is safe. Go to colt22 com and look at the faq's. There is a lot of info there on the colt woodsman.
I've purchased some of the CCI Segmented HP 32 gr and will test ASAP. Clocked them today, and they are fast. Not near as much drop in velocity percentage-wise compared to the Velocitor. I was a little shocked.
Looks like a very good performer. I have used CCI Minimags and Stingers as my .22lr round if I need the best performance, but I will try these out since they seem to do so well.
Excellent review, Iv been meaning to buy a box of these for rabbits but was unsure how effective they would be. Do you think the mushroom effect would be anywhere near that at around 70 - 80 yards?
Great informative video, I will definitely be on the look out for these little things. I'm very impressed with the energy these 22s have. Thanks a lot tnoutdoor9s.
Would it be possible to see some reviews on 22 WMR?

When my buddy was a kid, his first buck was shot with a .22 long rifle.
DippenMeSomeCope 7 months ago
That is some good expansion for a .22. Its close to the size of 9mm ball ammo.

XsVnuke 8 months ago
wow that does more damage then the .38 powrball you tested!
Eso1 8 months ago
@Eso1 Yeah these are some nasty rounds. Just goes to show .22s shouldent be underestimated.
Radion561 8 months ago
I have a .22 wrf (winchester rimfir) and with cci ammo squirrels practically explode when shot.
TimIguess 8 months ago
I got a .22 exactly like that
roadrunnersrock57 8 months ago
yep, but there are a more faster and powerful .22 lr 40 grains, I'm talking about Aguila Interceptor 1475 fps! really amazing! I hope you can test it soon. Best regards!

How do you clean your copper fouling?
slowride55 8 months ago
@slowride55
I use Ballistol for everything.
tnoutdoors9 7 months ago
@tnoutdoors9 Ok. Could you do an ammo review on the CCI Mini Mags and/or the CCI CB Shorts?
slowride55 7 months ago
@slowride55 Hoppes makes a copper solvent and its cheap.

Really enjoyed this video, very interesting camera and editing work.

This was a really cool test...on .22 ammo. Well now I now that some .22 ammo does mushroom after impact. Great test.

Absolutely top notch ammo review videos, and I love the picture-in-picture close up on the ranged shots. Thanks for spending so much time doing things right!
jpm1211 8 months ago 8
Nice review. It would be nice to see you do a similar review of .22 Win Mag as well. I use that a lot for varmint hunting on my farm. I carry it in the tractor and pickup for those pesky ground hogs, the occasional rabid animal and yotes.
SludgeSlinger 8 months ago 2
Nice job on the video. Always well done on the ammo vids!
MrJbruenni 8 months ago
You mentioned velocitors would be the choice over the stingers for small game hunting, then why do they make stingers? Is the trajectory easier to adjust for or something with the stingers? Thanks for the videos
1IdeaAhead 8 months ago
That is probably the best uniform expansion on a .22 hollow point I have ever seen.I am going to recommend the Velocitor to a friend who uses the .22 for small game hunting (and show him the video) Thanks for the effort in making the video!
greedkiller 8 months ago
A very thorough and helpful review, as always. I've always liked the CCI ammo, but haven't yet tried the Velocitors. Thanks!

i've been offered a taurus pt-22 for $80 so i figured why not. could this be effective in self defense as a backup gun? after seeing how these cci rounds did i'd say 1 or 2 well placed could stop a threat.

I have read on rimfire forums that stingers and velocitors are hard on buffers in semi auto actions. Have you heard of this? Also, between stinger and velocitor, which would you choose for small game hunting with a rifle?
txmalcontent 8 months ago
@txmalcontent
I have heard that about the Stinger, and I would chose the Velocitor for hunting small game.
tnoutdoors9 8 months ago
@tnoutdoors9
Are these CCI Copper Rounds you have in this video better than the powerpoint High Velocity 40 grain rounds Winchester X" makes?
79Testo 6 months ago in playlist 22 LR Platform
@txmalcontent You can buy the aftermarket buffers.. They are made of like a plasticized rubber or something. They are much better than the steel ones that the rifles come stock with. And they are literally only a few dollars. I never even shot mine with the steel buffer. I switched it out on the first day. After about 3k+ rounds out of it, it is still going fine. And i have shot everything from aguila supermaximum @ 1750fps (advertised) to bulk winchester and it is still holding up fine.
YamahaWR200 8 months ago
@YamahaWR200 That's good to know, thanks for the heads up.
txmalcontent 8 months ago
@txmalcontent Get the CCI SGB small game bullet, flat nose, perfect weight and velocity for accuracy, it's designed to anchor rabbits and squirrels very quickly, and not ruin the meat.
SupremeAmerican 6 months ago
@SupremeAmerican Interesting, I will have to look into that. Thanks.
txmalcontent 6 months ago
Wow, they really performed well
1AbominAble1 8 months ago
Velocity will differ between semi auto and bolt action. The ammo was probably tested with a bolt action.

For me, the Stinger is still the king of hunting rounds.
ssyoumans 8 months ago
now take the expanded .22 and place it in the center of an expanded .45 HST or Gold Dot to show just how big the size difference is!
12799MaDeuce 8 months ago
Your ballistics tests are fantastic and appreciated.
enjoythewildUSA 8 months ago
have you ever worried about a bullet or fragment coming back at you after hitting steel? theres a video on youtube where some guy shoots a 50cal at a target far off, and somehow bounces right back at him and smacks him in his ear protection
peptopro17 8 months ago
@peptopro17
Not so much with this steel. It is equivalent to light armor plating, the bullets shatter upon impact. This has been the case with everything from .22 LR to 7mm Remington Magnum. I've seen that video several times.
tnoutdoors9 8 months ago
@peptopro17 steel is safe to shoot.... just stand far enough back and there should be no problems. Everyone has seen that video, it is a freak accident. You will probably have more of a chance to be struck by lightning.
MrBallistics 8 months ago
@peptopro17 the reason that happened is because they failed to angle the plate downwards so that any ricochets are forced downwards. and it didnt hepl to shoot at armor plate without armor piercing rounds.

These and the CCI Stingers cycle perfectly through my Kimber conversion. With the cheap .22 bulk ammo I get at least one jam per magazine. Too bad they are a bit expensive for plinking. btw the SIM-test looks like a giant flan. Yummy
ab1274 8 months ago
How do you measure the speed of the bullet? I understand that you use a chronograph. I am interested in seeing/learning how this works. As usual, I enjoy your video's.
watrocket 8 months ago
@watrocket The bullet activates the chronograph as it passes through the first gate, it starts it's timing sequence, the bullet passes through the second gate, which deactivates the timer. The program runs it's calculations and it gives you the velocity.

thanks for these 22lr hp tests, i had little confidence in their ability for any useful expansion but the test has proved otherwise.

Can these be fired from a handgun, such as the colt huntsman or woodsman, safely ????(without damage to the gun ?
Alwayscarry1 8 months ago
@Alwayscarry1 If it was made after 1933 yes, all the woodsman made after '33 where engineered for high velocity ammo so you might have to do some research on the manufacture date of your colt to be sure if it is safe. Go to colt22 com and look at the faq's. There is a lot of info there on the colt woodsman.

husky394xp 8 months ago 16
I've purchased some of the CCI Segmented HP 32 gr and will test ASAP. Clocked them today, and they are fast. Not near as much drop in velocity percentage-wise compared to the Velocitor. I was a little shocked.
tnoutdoors9 8 months ago
This was excellent. You should do more ammo reviews.
LegendSexy 8 months ago
Looks like a very good performer. I have used CCI Minimags and Stingers as my .22lr round if I need the best performance, but I will try these out since they seem to do so well.
