@jesusfreak123123 when you do the head tilt chin lift maneuver your predominately closing the airway(partially). To make sure he/she has is getting maximum oxygen is essential. Opa/Npa is only a precaution.
@rlephew111 as this may be true, you can still bag a patient without an opa or npa. If you were a first responder or first on scene most likely you are just going to try and get oxygen back into their lungs. An opa or npa or intubation tube will most likely not be put in the patient until in the back of the ambulance. So don't say you can't bag a patient without an opa or npa.
@jesusfreak123123 ya that's true but since you have your equipment right there next to you and hopefully your partner is ready to begin cpr, why wouldn't you insert a simple adjunct while your patient is providing cpr? like i said, it's your job to make sure your patient is getting as much oxygen as possible.
@rlephew111 as we normally have our equipment next to us as I stated before the opa or npa is not inserted into them until in the back of the squad. We are most concerned with getting them care so we are trying our best to get cpr started, start bagging them, and getting them onto the cot and into the ambulance so we can get to the hospital asap. Once we're in the ambulance, that's normally when the npa or opa goes in.
