  • Can her soul be saved from sin? LOL

  • thought this song was gonna be a smash! I was big time wrong...only hit #37 in 1982...and there went Blondie.

  • Horrible

  • Around the time this came out, I guy at work who was dying of cancer and the cleaning lady, who were both married, ran off together and were headed to Florida to buy a new house for $20,000. I couldn't believe you could buy a house for that little; whenever I hear this song I wonder if that house is back down to $20K by now.

  • na ilha dos sonhos perdidos - mara maravilha version brazilian in youtube in my channel.

  • She is cute, nice tune!

  • debbie's so cute in this video! did you know that the guys playing the trumpets were some junkies they just picked up? I heard that on the Blondie documentary

  • @discomadame Junkies? On Tresco, the Isles of Scilly where they filmed this? Unless they flew them over from Penzance, that seems a bit unlikely! I've been to the Isles of Scilly for 20 years and I don't think I've ever seen a homeless person let alone junkies!

  • @indie4life23 maybe they flew them in from shanty town? Uh i dunno. They say they were junkies in the Blondie documentary here on Youtube anywayz...

  • I love the song, but the video is downright hilariously terrible. It was their "Hunter" period, I guess.

  • Hum. Does this have anything to do with the movie? Island of Lost Souls? :D Came out around each other, I think XD

  • vevo videos take about five years to upload!!

  • Debbie and the boys hit #37 in Billboard, 7-3-82. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • lol her dance is terrible :D

  • This is the best Blondie song in my opinion, and an awesome video!

  • I'd like to visit this mysterious island... where a damsel in distress dressed in a pink dress and a bunch of white dressed trumpet players wait for me!

  • @BlondiEmilio

Tresco, Isles of Scilly , UK - awesome place

  • "forget about work"

    "start all over again"

    ..sounds good to me

  • this song makes me wanna go to the beach. Jamaica? Bahamas?

  • Show 'em the way Blondie... :)

  • hehe i love blondie, even though they're a bit before my time :)x

  • Fantastic blast from the past and in VEVO too!!

  • I never saw this video. Thanx for posting.

  • my fav blondie song

  • In spite of the weird video, this is a great song, better than Tide Is High, I think. The funny thing is that Blondie was on its way out by 1982, and still they knew exactly what they were doing. (Music video producers didn't quite know what they were doing in 1982.)

It's perfectly fitting with Blondie's retro tendencies, except this goes back to the 1940s, a little far back for us young'uns in 1982. My mother thought it was a hit from the 40s, and I had to convince her it wasn't :)

  • This song is insanly catchy and highly enjoyable. The problem is the video is just OUT there. You can tell Debs looks like she is just gone. The band was hitting hard times when this came out. Luckily, they are in good standing again.

  • The Hunter is my favorite Blondie album and I much prefer "Island of Lost Souls" to "The Tide Is High". :)

  • Great video quality, but for the "official version" the sound is a quality is horrible. There were 8-track players that sounded better than this. emimusic should dub the album track over this, if it can be timed properly. For its part, YouTube should add a "Play Un-interrupted" button that holds off the start until enough data has loaded that it can reasonably be expected to play to the end.

  • This Girl even escaped from Ted Bundy. She had just done a gig in Brooklyn in 73/74

and it was about 3 am.As she was Walking down the Street a Volkswaggen Beetle

pulled up and the bloke was asking directions, she said she was going that way and got in.Anyway she noticed the sharpened Door Catches and she had the sense to jump straight out and run like Hell.Otherwise another Bundy murder would have stopped Blondie before it ever got going!!!.

  • Bloody AWFUL record ; the nadir of Blondie.Too much junk by now.Still looked very fuckable in this vid though !

  • @kenfig When she was interviewed by Barry Scott, she sounded a little embarrassed about this record. I love it, though it was despised by many. Let's just say it's an acquired taste.

PS: It's easier to hate any song when hearing it played with the pitiful sound quality of this version.

  • @lrd9999 i disliked it when it was a hit in 82 when i was 19 ; i thought "whats this shit ?" and that was on good quality broadcasts. Its just that the band moved increasingly towards cheesy pop which was not what they were all about at all though i'm in favour of some experimentation which helps pop thrive.Parallel Lines was Pop-ish but not like THIS. But its certainly not the worst track in the world and i dont mind listening to it too much here especially since Deb is SO hot in the vid !

  • @kenfig Yes, they had pretty much put their original punk identity on the back-burner by that time. I wasn't too thrilled with "Rapture", but there was something a little other-worldly about this that I just happened to like. I guessed it might have been intended as a throwback to the Calypso music of the '50s, but I still don't know enough about that to even make an educated guess. It was one of those love-it-or-hate-it records like the Curly Shuffle or Safety Dance.

  • @lrd9999 Do you know though the more i listen to this NOW it has changed my view and i quite like it ! .I like the chorus bits which go "where did he go...." etc and the instrumental break at 1:45 onwards which, reminds me of,when the brass comes in of 'Face Value' album by Phil Collins which featured players from Earth Wind & Fire and a bit like Kid Creole as well. A good album by Debbie is Koo-Koo (1981) produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic fame and i like Rapture cos it has lots of guitar in it

  • @kenfig Cool! Some of my favorite songs are the ones I used to hate. I'm always a little afraid that might happen with something I really want to hate (like Michael Bolton or Michael McDonald) but that hasn't happened yet. When this came on the radio in '82, I just wanted to put my ear up to the speakers as if something new and amazing was inside them.

PS: She is quite hot, in jaded way. One DJ claimed she was an ex-streetwalker, but I think Playboy Bunny was really the extent of it.

  • @lrd9999 Part of why i didnt like the style was that i thought it VERY twee and sugary and devoid of real guitar sound which had characterised some of their great pop hits like 'Sunday Girl' and 'Telephone' which, although melodic pop, which i do love, was solid pop / rock so there's nothing wrong with that but when i first heared this i thought "a REAL commercial cop-out" you know, NO guitars at all up front in the sound etc. She WAS hot back THEN,but with respect to her,she is 65 now you know ?

  • This video is right up there with Bowies Ashes To Ashes.

  • One of my faves by Blondie!

  • My favorite Blondie song. Brings back nice memories from the early 80's.

  • she is cute !!!

  • This was Blondie's final '80s hit before they grew apart. It's a sad/happy circumstance.

  • Blondie... sorry I was running late... I'm right here baby!!!! GREAT SONG!

  • they shot tthis in the scily isles i think to make it look like it was a sunny beach lol

  • Hit #37 in the US (Billboard). How'd it do in the UK? God bless!

  • This is such a great song. With a great message. And I was on her 'Island of lost souls' (figuratively) at one point in my life. Blondie is special, she sang a song of open locks. It takes special people like this to sing songs and open locks. Days like this are gone, what with the police state. No one is allowed to open locks anymore. I'm glad blondie freed me. And where ever you are Debra Harry, I love ya!

  • Who knew Sand People could jam?

  • @AbsentWithoutLeaving I can't see any afghans in the video

  • @AbsentWithoutLeaving I also thought they looked like the Star Wars sand people! :)

  • EMI SUX , ROT IN HELL SKUM

  • So nice that people who DON"T have anything to say but b.s. say it. So - drugs? Does it affect you - Blondie on drugs? No. I've known them for years (Debbie), and all I got to say is...just enjoy the music.

  • @uszoninyc but they WERE on drugs, it's a fact. Blondie broke up because of a combination of drugs and conflicts within the band.

  • Since when were Blondie pot heads? I didn't know that.

  • @BigBulgeCheeks watch the 2006 BBC documentary "One Way Or Another" - it shows Debbie and Chris talking about the role drugs had on Blondie's carrer and demise. They used lots of cocaine, and then they went on to heroin and later methadone :(

  • @BigBulgeCheeks And another thing — drugs were kind of natural for the guys in Blondie because of the scene they came from, the club scene of 70s New York. It was cool to sniff lots of coke in clubs like Studio 54, where they were habitués.

  • Very Star Wars chic i looooooooooooove it.

  • A rare gem! Love it, but whats up with the Klan garb?? lol

  • just saw this again after 28 years.cheers for posting!

  • There was nothing like the very early 80s to rob an established band of all it's soul to sell more records.

    Debbie - nooooooooo!!

  • Everything about this video seems dumpy and tired to me--in spite of the exotic location and the fact that the costumes, choreography etc are all more elaborate than any other Blondie vid. But there's a vitality missing, and Debbie's wig is awful--like the kind you buy for Halloween, and her dress looks like they fished it out of a hamper! I love Blondie, but I always try to forget the vids from The Hunter

  • @kookooboy For the uninitiated Debbie Harry is stoned to the eyeballs...smack does'nt really do anyone any favours right? Why you think she just wants to lay in the grass?

  • Comment removed

  • it's daryl hannah from the movie splash

  • i love this video, but why other songs from the same album don't have video ? or they have?

  • I like the comment about Hawaii! It was filmed on Tresco in the Isles of Scilly, UK. Quite a few of my mates were rowing the pilot gigs dressed up in black top hats. They remember Debbie Harry as having a mouth like a sewer, but then women who swore was quite a novelty in those days - 1982!

  • Always liked this lesser known song of theirs, along with the interesting video

  • @XMLarry It was the back side of the "Heart of Glass" 45...I wish I still had it...

  • Debbie Harry had a relatively late start in fame and did great.. thats all i got to say

  • I saw Blondie about four year ago at a Blues Festival, Debbie Harry is still great.

  • I think this is definately one of their best songs shame it is ignored. I remember the first time i heard this song it was unlike anything i had heard by Blondie i just loooooooooooooove it.

  • Ahhh yes, the early days of MTV - way back when they actually played music videos. Thanks for the upload.

  • They're all off their heads on drugs here. In a British documentary a couple of years ago, their producer Mike Chapman said recording the Hunter was a nightmrebecause they were so out of it. For the brass section on this, Chris and Debbie got a bunch of session musicians in who were a load of junkies. Chapman said it was a miracle the record was ever finished. I'm quite fond of the Hunter though!

  • She looks like anna nicole in this vid. Not a bad thing, but there's a resemblance.

  • this makes me wanna go to hawaii.. or the Florida keys

  • love this crazy video.

  • ¿como pudieron hacer esta mierda?

  • It's not exactly their best video, is it?

  • I don't know why, but this girl reminds me of Agnetha from ABBA group, just hotter of course....

  • island of insanity

  • I haven't heard this song in years! Thanks for posting!

  • Why are there hisidic jews rowing that boat in modest clothing?

  • Hahaha.

  • Debbie Harry: the embodiment of erotic decadence.

  • Well, this is fantastic.

  • This song rocks!

  • one of the biggest wtf music videos ive seen

  • It's all a kind of joke take on "The Island of Dr. Moreau," the old movie and, originally, novel by H.G. Wells. Animal men, mad scientists, and a calypso beat, and that's about it.

    Sort of cute...

  • jajajajajaj
