Go to HAMB and talk to the guys on there. All of them ran back in the day. Good friend is a collector he's got some nice Mopars and only thing he has ever lost too (he has a 68 Hemi Charger, 66 383 Charger, 71 Cuda 340, 74 Challenger 360 all stock) was a 427 435hp corvette stingray. He was a drag racer for Mopar back in the 60's (ran at green valley, basically what I live ontop of right now). Like I said man we dont have to agree but nice car :).
*whispers* they where never Hemi killers, just a good catch phrase by marketing, in fact where slower then the 440's and many of GM's muscle cars because of her added weight because Buick's came loaded with options for the gentleman's muscle car. Beautiful car though :)
@Boredout454 naturally sometimes you have cars that run better than their counter parts, but for the most part, good running stage 1's pretty much were in fact hemi killers..most 440's were dogs and even the most avid mopar guy will admit that. Neither 440's or the other GM big block cars ran as hard as a stage 1 buick...proof is in the e.t. The only cars(american muscle) that might have really given the stage 1 a run for its money would have been a BB vette, BB camaro, or an AMX
@Hoosierdaddy454 Actually the 440's especially the 440 sixpacks were the fastest cars (specifically the 69 1/2 Superbee/RR) which clocked in at 12.9 on bias ply tires. Thats fastest ever tested by all the magazines at the time. They didnt test the aluminum nosed Hemi's and 413-426 max wedges of 63-65 which ran in the 11's and the 68-69 SS Cuda's and Darts which ran in the 10's stock. All of these faster then Stage 1's and most of the stock Hemi's and 440's where too.
@Boredout454 the hemi dart was actually a really quick car, but 440 cars....not impressive. Stage 1 buicks have run 12.60's ...last I checked thats a good clip quicker than 12.90. None of this even taking into consideration the GS Stage 2.
I built the engine, it's .30 over 455 10.5 compression with a hyd. hemi killer GSCA cam, ajustable roller rockers B4B intake, 950 Holley, MSD 6AL billet dist., Mallory electric fuel pump 8an lines to the front split to 6an lines to the carb. M/T equal length headers
