  • The solo he's playing is so awesome - it is great.

  • R I P J R

  • Little known fact. . .Pink Floyd actual wrote this song. And later they let Jerry play it on stage with them on the Animals tour.

  • @davidasleep01 Sorry, but Pink Floyd didn't write Stagger Lee. It was first published in 1910 by John Lomax. It had been covered by countless early bluesmen and later r&b as well as rock artists. Great song, though.Peace.

  • I like me some Jerry Reed, but white people need to mind they own buisness. Leave this to Wilson Picket and Lloyd Price. Pay those guys... Pay them double.

  • @itowedin

Oh come on! If music can't transcend race in the 21st century, what can? Pickett and Price recorded great versions of "white" songs (Beatles' "Hey Jude," Buck Owens' "Under Your Spell Again," to name a few). Should they get paid half for those?

Country artists like Reed and Owens brought black artists like Berry, Charles, Price, Pickett and Leadbelly to their audience. At the time, it really took stones to do that. Now, can't we all just enjoy and give thanks for the great music?

  • @TNLabrador Booker T and the MG's, Jimmy Smith, and dozens of others had race transcendance together even before the civil rights movement. At least in terms of cultural and artistic community. I was raised directly in front of a 1967 Wurlitzer jukebox full of Stax records on one side and Sun Records on the other. It always bothered me, and still does, when some Nashville type takes all the swing out of a classic r&b piece. Arthur Crudup, Big Momma Thornton...Pay 'em.

  • One of thee Original Guitar Shredders

  • How did he get that tone on that guitar

  • I love the sound of that guitar

  • Back when country still had some fuckin' SWING.

Vince Gill is up there with Jerry, Glen, Chet... Where are the rest?

You know, the 'Western' in 'Country & Western' comes from Western Swing music and cowboy songs. Bob Wills swang right up there with Count Basie. Sophisticated music - a true form of jazz.

Sorry for the rant. And, I apologize to those that already knew all of this.

  • @Nacho66 Hi, I didn't know all this and I WANT TO!!! hahahaha So thank you.

If you don't mind can you throw me a list of people to check out? Jr Brown was my first entry..... but this guy is amazing- what a voice. Where can I find out more about Western swing?

  • @stikhi

Check out 'Asleep At The Wheel' here on Youtube. They're single-handedly keeping the music of Bob Wills & His Texas Playboys alive. They even won Grammys for their albums. They swing so good they're OUTTA STATE!

  • when you're hot, YOU'RE HOT!

  • anyway Delbert!

  • Stack O Lee

  • Dude was one badass picker, grew up on this guy, he was always underrated.

Love all the permutations of this song.

Check out Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds version.

  • All the great players in all styles have one thing in common. At the core, they are all blues and early rock players. Great Guitar player/singer/recording artist. RIP Jerry Reed

  • RIP Snowman!!

  • WOW

  • There used to be an old clip on here with Jerry and Chet playing Summertime TNN Chet had a Fretless Guitar, it was outstanding I cant find it anymore, if anyone has it PLEASE REPOST!!!

  • Greatest Guitarist ever!

  • this video and that guitar just gave me wood

  • Wow...he's singing the censored version. Lame!

  • @VorpalDerringer what there is a uncensored version?

where can i find it, i only know this and the swiss german version, stägeli from span.

  • @schissgring This one talks about a fight over a woman, the uncensored version talks about Stagger Lee shooting Billy.

    Search Youtube for

Wilbert Harrison, Taj Mahal, or Lloyd Price and "Stagger Lee"

Taj Mahal's version is slower and more blues-y, and Harrison's is faster paced, but I like all three of them.

  • This cat wrote song for lots of people, among them was the great Chet Atkins, whom I think was a tad intimidated by Jerry. The Jerry's Breakdown stuff on the old TV shows with Jerry & Chet seem to leave Chet looking a bit amazed. Jerry Reed is so damned good I am in ecstasy every time a Jerry Reed exercise or song comes out in GP magazine. I learn way more for the likes of Reed than most other players. Thanks & RIP Jerry, Chet, Les, Merle, Jimi, and Gary. Moore (3 wks ago) gone now too.

  • Awsome!!

  • Man that solo was great!

  • its too bad ppl dont play those old gretsch guitars anymore

  • @wwfoleyfan I'm pretty sure that's a Gibson.

  • @DotDotDotjr yeah, for sure a Gibson - unmistakable logo on the headstock

  • Superb !!!!

  • great picking...what about that afro person wearing out that tambourine in the background...lol..can't tell if its a girl or guy...lol

  • R.I.P. Jerry!

  • amazing guitar playing...truly amazing...however, the lyric change? I'm not a fan...

  • @b017ni3 There are many different versions of the lyrics to this song (and Stack O' Lee), all quite valid.

  • Great job on the vids.

  • yes sireee! jerry is the boss !

  • Wow... Jerry gets a great tone out of that thing.

  • This is the catsass!

  • One of the best, of any genre. Long Live Snowman! :)

  • take me back, take me back...........

  • Wow, Jerry was awesome!

  • That's nice of Stagger to not murder Billy for once.

  • @Synskin.... LOL

  • the snowman! you rock amigo

  • he was truely......one of the last great pickers.....we'll miss ya J.R....

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Awesome handmade music, yeeaaaaaaha :)

Jerry Reed you are still in my heart RIP

  • Why the lame-ass lyrical changes?

  • Don't know why your comment was thumbs-downed, Dorothy, because they lyric change IS terrible. I'm guessing it's the same reason why Lloyd Price has to change the lyrics for American Bandstand; the original lyrics might have been considered too "controversial" for a youth oriented audience. However, anyone who knows the original version (AND the true story that inspired it) knows damn well that the incident wasn't over a woman, and Stagger Lee and Billy certainly didn't end up as friends.

  • @junedeon no they weren't friends, Stagger Lee was a bad mutherfucker

  • On the plus side however, Jerry's playing is pretty sweet!

  • Sencillamente maravilloso, un guitarrista versatil, eficaz como muy pocos y dueño de un talento impresionante.

Señor Jerry Reed mis respetos donde quiera que estes.

  • Thanks for writing music, Jerry. R.I.P

  • Yeah , you´ve got it , Jerry !

    Unfortunately you´re not well-known in Germany ...

  • every performance jerry did is top dog!

  • awesome!

  • Reed was no doubt one of the best and most versatile guitarists ever and one Hell of a performer.

  • @TEXASSURFDONKEY He definitely did a ton of stuff!

  • @TEXASSURFDONKEY had problems sing and playing at the same time it seems

  • @8Zeitgeist

    listen to amos moses

  • awesome talent - on loan from God. And now playing for God!

    RIP

  • That's for sure!

  • What impresses me about this is that I watched it the very night that it aired and knew nobody with a VCR at the time. Somebody must have been ahead of their time to capture the footage.

It was the Tonight Show and Burt Reynolds was the guest host, I believe. Jerry was on more than once.

  • thanks for these videos. Really great stuff. Jerry RIP.
