America's situation in the last 70s was very similar to Europe's, much of it was due to the crises created with oil supplies. But that's not to say that he may have been feckless at sorting the problem out. But I don't see how the situation in Iran could have resoled. Besides although the individual hostages did not deserve ill-treatment the U.S. government certainly did deserve to treated with contempt by Iranians. The U.S.A. doesn't have humantiarian aims any more than other nation. Iraq was about a vendetta with Saddam and control over oil. Not about making Iraqis making. As for Iran, they are entitled to nuclear weapons, Israel has them, the USA has them (and isn't getting rid of them).

I cast my worst president vote for James Buchanan. He essentially sat on his hands while the country slid towards what would become the Civil Way. However, I'd say Bush ranks pretty high on any list of worst presidents. Leading the country into a wrongheaded war in Iraq, greatly diminishing American civil rights, and overstepping the constitutional bounds of his office will tend to do that to an administration.

actually Franklin Pierce caused us to go the civil war not Buchanan and he was by far the worse. He basically won the election because an old college buddy (Nathaniel Hawthorne) wrote a book that was highly inaccurate about him

Until President Bush's term is over, I will not say he is the worst president. I wait until terms are over to decide whos the worst.
Besides the first three presidents. no president will EVER be perfect and no president will make everybody happy.
I think being president is the most stressful and lousiest job you can have period.

That just reinforces the fact that anyone who would WANT to be president is a power mongering douche. And no, you can't make everyone happy, but you CAN usually avoid creating trillions of dollars in debt, being responsible for the deaths of a million people, single-handedly undermining the integrity of our constitution, dumbing down the nation as a whole, destroying national security, giving all the power to lobbyists and corporate jackoffs and creating the worst place to grow old on earth.

The worst for me is a draw between Harding (Hired his corrupt friends into high political Positions) and W. Bush (Doesn't know jack shit).
Probably the Best president for me is a draw between Roosevelt (Got us out of a depression and through a War) and Clinton (Got us out of debt and led us through the highest period of economic growth ever).
