  • Love the random XKCD cameo. XD

  • beautiful *O*

  • @shenix123 Another one who didn't read the description... The WRITTEN TUTORIAL is linked in the description, please click it THEN you'll learn everything needed to paint this way... -_-'

  • @DianeOzdamar

8-10 small res screens do not account for "everything".

  • @karry299 Did you just checkout the description where the WRITTEN TUTORIAL is linked (with MANY screens AND explanations)?

    I guess you didn't.

And I never said this explained "everything" but my own painting techniques. Thanks.

  • @shenix123 ur a fukin idiot

  • @shenix123 dude she took 12 hours to create this, so if you want the whole thing a) she's got to upload loads and loads of vids not just 8 and you'd fall asleep by the first 30 minutes ;) - great piece btw diane ;)

  • @shenix123 Don't bother reading the description, You'll never be able to paint like this in a million years. Great job Diane, I enjoyed every bit of all 8 vids. She is beautiful!

  • DAMN! :O That is SO frigin awesome! :D

  • @EmeraldStarwolf Aww thank you *blushes*

  • ai pula patrata coaeeee

  • working with only one layer ..

    your painting skills are amazing..

  • Who. The. Hell. Disliked. This. Video?!?!

  • It looks like Christina Aguilera dressed as Mulan.

  • @flatulence5000 Haha, I kept thinking it looked like Scarlet Johanson. I wonder if she used a celebrity photo for face reference? I would go peak at the tutorial, but I keep getting slammed by viruses every time I've gone on deviantart for the last two months. >:(

  • The unique thing which has surprised me, that this woman not the Japanese.

And in the rest, your work is ideal!

  • how many layerds did you use?

excellent art work by the way

  • great...I love this character....

  • so beautiful....

  • Yourl style reminds me of Frank Frazetta

  • wouldn't it be great if you used the soundtrack from memoirs of a geisha to those videos.Amazing art by the way.

  • you are a very good artist! you give me inspiration!

  • The detail is amazing! You're so talented to make everything yourself, like starting from a sketch! When I do stuff like this, I have to start from a photo of a friend or something. This is sooooooooooooo awesome!!

  • This was fantastic, absolutely marvelous artwork. It's simply fascinating seeing another artist's work progress. The most marvelous piece of digital arwork I have ever seen. And I loved the web comic. Could you give a link?

  • I like the way you only use one layer. Insane skills, love it.

  • Brilliant painting and tutorial! One day I will be this good...probably...maybe not :p...but I'll keep trying. :)

  • thank you so much for posting these! - truly incredible work! and very helpful (the video and the written tutorial)...you are very talented...

  • @AlucardRawks Thank you very much for your nice words! <3

  • You are one amazing human.

  • LOL... did I see stickman near the very end...?

  • very well done ^^

  • Merci pour ce long tutorial, rapide certe mais très enrichissant. et au passage merci pour le tutorial de vos brushes qui sont très utiles. Vous avez vraiment beaucoup de talent et un très beau style.

    Bonne continuation!

  • welll... i don t know hnow to express myself... your are just a very inteligent and perfecsionist... it was the best one that i have ever seen.. gratxxx...

  • You've officially cracked my self-estreem and sorry, but i have to go find and kill you now.

  • It is very interesting... I can be is not correctly, but how many In dollars for such work it is possible to take? Sorry for my bad inglish...Somebody knows?

  • pretty

  • Insane...

  • I will agree with qwsTaion on the Kimono... I would've like to have seen a more traditional cut... I'm not a huge fan of the puffy princess sleeve... it looks a little out of character... its still extremely amazing work... great great stuff... =)

  • To be completely honest i must say, im very impressed but i find it a bit wrong around the kimono, in means of topographic accurancy ofcoarce. How ever great dedication and attention towards detail, a trully admirable work.

5 stars and it goes to FAVORITS! :)

Keep up your determination and soon you will become a truly powerfull illustrational force to be reking with! :)

(pls excuse the spelling i'm well bellow the use of proper and grammer writhing :)

  • ur my new inspiration! ;)

  • honestly i don't know what to say, you are just so relentless in your detail, you are too good. thank you for sharing your passion with everyone, you are brilliant !

  • OMG... I'm speechless.....

  • it looks like this was done all in one layer from the video which blows my mind... how much/long have you been painting in photoshop?

  • what do u do to blend the colors? i use smudge but that dont work very well.. :|

  • wth was that wat 6:12 lol?

  • Hehe, I love how you painted the fish there. Great movies, found the tutorial trough DA.

  • Thank you so much for this; so many things I have to try now. I don't know why I never thought of using the liquify tool before! Such a great idea!

How many hours did this take you?

  • what program u use for screen capture?

  • Snapz Pro X

  • I have to admit, that is pretty damn cool. Especially the fan. Nice work!

  • Thanks !

  • wow....this so coool....12 our you make this art....bravo bravo bravo....thx for this video

  • Thank you very much !

  • well, im sure after watching this, im not the only one who practically worships you lol

  • Aww thank you ! I don't think this is worth worshipping though ^^'

  • I dont Know anything about video capture-but just imagine, that after all that, you realize it hadnt even been working :o

  • I checked it out at the beginning to make sure it was working well ;)

  • the last p is missing in the most pictures of me its like a fight against myself

  • it's not talent its hard work

  • I couldn't agree more ! Thank you :)

  • all i can say is wow! at first i said no way! but then its true! i'd kill for that talent!

  • This is not talent, I don't believe in talent actually :)

I'd rather say anyone can do this with enough Passion + Practise + Patience (that's what I'm used to call the "3Ps")

    Thanks a lot anyway !

  • Yup definitely agree with this. Your videos actually inspired me to get started with digital painting.

  • I disagree. Not anyone can paint. It takes hand eye cordination, and not everyone has the level of hand eye cordination it takes to draw or paint well. No matter how much passion or practice they put into the art. Just like not everyone can be a pro gamer.

  • Sure, you have a valid point. People tend to give up when they don't have this hand eye coordination.

Though, I know a girl who can paint though all art teachers told her she would never be able to do so. She has worked so hard that she has finally trained her brains, eyes and hand. She has spent an insane amount of time working, much more than "gifted" people but she can paint.

I guess motivation and passion are the key to learn. There are even people with no arms that paint with their mouth.

  • She looks like a HIGH dollar giesha.

  • haha ^^ Thanks

  • OH MY GOD! You're most precise speedpainter ever. Great work of art! Verry high regard from Poland! :)

  • Aww, thank you very much !

Though this is not speed painting anymore since I spent almost 11 hours on it ;)

  • So this was speed :)

  • This is just meant to show the whole progress (how the shape of the face has changed, colours, lighting, etc), it's not the tutorial part, so I guess making it slower would have been quite boring.

  • These videos were brilliant. I don't know if you did it in the videos, but the way you texture the skin is amazing :O

  • I did it in the videos but it doesn't show since the quality is quite bad unfortunately :(

    Thank you very much !

  • thanks very much for uploading this, i learned a lot. *nods* i'm trying to learn myself as well so this was a great help!

can i ask what brushes you use most frequently? it's hard to tell going so fast. ;)

  • Thank you very much !

As written in the tutorial (please checkout the link in the description ! All the interesting stuff is linked in there), I'm using a custom brush, the first one of the set I've made available for download under the tutorial.

  • Great Work. How long did you practice till you've mastered it?

  • Thank you very much !

I've still not mastered digital painting and I guess I'll never really master it (I'm still learning), but I've been painting digitally for almost 3 years now.

  • g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s

    I would buy this painting!!

    Its soooooooooooooooo beautiful!

  • Aww, thank you so much !

  • It looked finished in like Part 4 and now I look and...

I'M NOT WORTHY! I'M NOT WORTHY!

  • Thank you ! Actually, I still think I could have worked more on this (the fabric looks crappy and not natural) but I didn't want the tutorial and video parts to be too long...

  • nice one in 6:12 :)

    btw awsome painting

  • haha thanks ^^ My bf sent me this comic while I was working... he knows how to take control of my computer... I didn't open it ;)

  • wow this is one of the coolest online paintings i have seen.. you are SOOO amazing!!! <3

How long did it take you to learn how to draw like that? And how did you learn - by yourself or did you actually do it as a degree or something

  • Aww, thank you very much! I am mostly self taught (I learnt digital art by myself), though I've done some art studies -traditional media- which helped me to understand how thing worked (lighting, reflections, etc...)

I think studying from life and accepting critiques in order to try to improve is one of the best ways to learn :)

    Thanks again!

  • whoa..it's a masterpieceee...

when i start see the part 1..i cant stop until its all done!

  • Aww, thanks!

  • Diane you are amazing ;) Love all of your work !

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Hi, your work is simply amazing! I just want to ask what size of the canvas and dpi do you mainly use? I got my tablet only a few months ago, so I'm trying to learn as much as possible about all these things (I use Painter X,also have photoshop, not sure yet what's better) But after all these paintings with a mess all around,I see digital painting as a wonder :)

Thanks for the answer,if it's not a secret :) and once more - this picture is really beautiful..wish I can do sth like that one day

  • Please read the description and follow the link to the tutorial. It's written there! ;)

  • Thanks for the quick reply :) I knew it must be somewhere..it'll be very usefull

  • if i sended u one of my pics can u draw me??

  • I'm sorry, no, I'm way too busy for now, I don't even have time to sleep.... :(

  • o ok...ty anywayz....u do a very good job

  • thanks a lot, sorry for the negative reply... I really wish I had more free time, but I think I won't have before summer holidays :(

  • You are unbeliebable!Your talent is amazing

I like your band too,I heard a song in your myspace page and video, and I liked it very much, I can't believe that you have a huge talent, you are incredibly beautiful and you also has an amazing voice..,you are the perfect woman

I'm your fan,I loved you work, and I hope some day I can go to France to a concert of your band, now I'm really far,in México and the only french artist that comes is Alizeé

Receive greetings from your mexican fan:dark_heaven

  • Thank you soooo much! (the music video is a very old video though, the singer was not me, it was the previous singer of this band). Thank you very much for your kind words! :)

Maybe some day we'll be good enough to be able to play in lots of countries... I don't know :)

  • Amazing :D ...tell me, what was the little stick figure comic that popped up when you were painting the hand? xD

  • Thanks a lot! It was xkcd, a funny webcomic.

  • Hello DianeOzdamar! I love your work, here and on DeviantArt.

I read your tutorial but I have a question: how exactly do you blend your colors so smoothly? I tried blending colors by using lower opacity settings but the strokes are always visible.

I hope you'll do more tutorials if you have the time and desire to do so. They're extremely helpful. Thank you!

  • I'm only spending a lot of time on it, until it's smooth enough, nothing more ;)

Maybe the size jitter settings were on? If so, turn them off! ;)

About tutorials : unfortunately, I really don't have time anymore, I have paid tutorials to write and commissions to do.... (+school work, music, etc...)

  • this is amazing!! you give me inspiration :D

  • Thanks a lot :)

  • Very, very good Diane! This is damn good..

  • Thank you very much!

  • AMAZING!!! I have a few questions...

    1. (About) How many layers did the whole piece take?

    2. what kind of brush was used to paint the clothes?

    thanks!

  • 1 - only 1 layer, most of the time.

2 - same brush as usual, if you follow the link to the tutorial (in the description), you can download my brushes :)

    Thanks!

  • I downloaded them =] thank you!

1 layer?!?!?! I gotta try that!!!

  • Hello Diane!

Beautiful work, thanks for sharing it and keep it up!:)

    /Alice

  • Thank you Alice! :)

  • Hi! :D You have an amazing piece there! I was just wondering, what kind of tablet do you use? Thanks!

  • As mentionned in the description, it's a wacom intuos 3A4.

Please go check out the description else you'll miss all the tutorial part (this is only one of the video parts) :)

    Thanks! :)

  • are you god?

  • erm... No? I'm just someone who loves painting with a passion and who spends loooooot of time practising ;)

  • Thanks a lot! * blushes *

  • O M G thats so amzing, and so detailed

     Respect!

  • thank you! :)

  • Oh quel talent! Je ne me lasse pas de regarder ces vidéos. Quel travail impressionant!

  • mille mercis! :)

  • wonderful work!!!

  • OMG !!! :O

How much time do you work with Photoshop ?

  • Do you mean on a painting, or for how long I've painted with Photoshop?

I'm usually spending 10 to 60 hours on a painting, it depends of the amount of details, canvas size, etc....

I've been painting digitally for 3 years =)

  • You read xkcd?! You make me very happy.

  • what is xkcd? Thank you by the way!

  • At 6:11 you pull up a website. I recognized it as a webcomic called xkcd, which I read.

  • It's a nice webcomic :) I didn't pull it up myself when painting though.... My boyfriend took control of my computer for some seconds and opened it for me (he's loves coding into the terminal so much!) I had told him not to do so while I was painting though ^^'

  • ooooh ok ^^ you were talking about the comics ^^yes, I read it sometimes :D (when I have time...)

  • c'est vraiment génial de voir comment tu travailles. féliciation Diane !

  • Merci Jordan! :)

  • Hello, I'm a watcher of yours in dA, and I have a simple question about this tut... As far as I get, you used a filter lots of times to fix her face... was it liqufy? if so... how do you use it? because, when I try to use it, the pic looks weird, and kinda wrapped... (or something like that). Can you give me some tips about it?

By the way, the rest of the tut is superb!!! Great job. I've learnt a lot from it!

  • Just use a large sized brush when you're using the liquefy tool, else it won't work (you can also try to change all the settings, don't be afraid of trying to use them all, maybe you'll find something that may be very useful, everybody has its own work to use these tools :) )

  • Ooooooh!!! So that's why... ^_^ tee-hee

    Thanks so much! ;D

  • *claps* wounderful
