  • Okay, please see if this test works on your calculator. I can't seem to get it work on mine.

    Last Friday a stock was at $52.00.

    After 1 week, the stock is now at $52.20.

    What is the percentage gain?

  • I don't think we'll really know until I do all the calculating on Saturday, after the contest ends. Hopefully I'll have it done by Saturday afternoon.

    Do you know the formula to calculate the percentages?

  • Lou, I use -(100-(ENDING VALUE*100/START VALUE)).  At close today(4/9/08), top 3 are Boeing, Merck and Chevron.

  • Ardie, I need help. Sometimes when I try to do my percentage calculations on my calculator, I get that "e" message. Can we do an example?

    Example 1: Last friday, the stock was at $35.00. After 1 week, the stock rose to $35.90. So,

    $35.90 (start value) MINUS $35 (end value) =.9, then DIVIDE by $35 (start value) = .025714285714. Then, MULTIPLY by 100 = 2.5714285714 %

    BUT, when the increase is a smaller value, I get the "e" message. Like if the Stock goes from $35.00 to $35.20. Can you help?

  • I don't know Lou, your calculator may give the error when the number crosses over into negative territory. That formula works with a little cheap calculator of mine. Try a different calculator. Hey, I made a spreadsheet to track the stocks, I can send the results after market close on Friday.

  • That's the thing. When I'm logged in under my own screen name, it doesn't act like it's marked as spam, so it doesn't give me that option. When I log out, it's all marked as spam. I can unmark OTHER peoples comments that are marked as spam, but not my own. Go figure.
