  • more like black metal vocals

  • 0:08 He's singing Worship Depraved :D Arsis is such an amazing band. Needs more recognition.

  • he has more of a black metal voice.

  • Awesome, you are fucking great

  • THIS IS GREAT AS "LORD OF THE RINGS" TROLL MUSIC!

  • more like black metal

  • wow...brutal

  • what guitar is that?? tnx

  • 0:14 sounds like megadeth as a death metal band

  • Jeez, Id hate to have to play that lick and sing at the same time. Torture.

  • woahhhhhhhhhh what a voice i want voice like him aaaa :@@@

  • Arsis is one of the most underrated bands of the past 10 years. Malone's a champ. Keep it up. Great video, thank you!

  • how. the fuck. did. I. get here. from. Hopsin?.....

  • Great playing, pretty weak vocals though.

  • He knows his shit, but I guess most decent guitarists do.

  • Cool dude--another nice guy, like Jim Root of Slipknot.

  • @FreeFavl

Lol you metion a Slipknot guitarist on this video? Jim Root can dream of having skills like him.

  • this guy was ranked as one the metals 200 top guitarists

  • ummmm.... gayyyyyyy

  • @metaljo88 Your gay?

  • @shredsaxes no ur gay

  • @metaljo88 no ur gay

  • @shredsaxes im going to fuck u in the face

  • @metaljo88 see,told u your gay

  • It's not at all uncommon for melodeath screamers to be less guttural and higher pitched than on standard death metal. Like At the Gates, In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Hypocrisy, Arch Enemy, Heartwork-era Carcass...

Plus he sounds a lot less pathetic on the records.

  • OK, that is not singing.

  • @Metallimeister ....duh

  • @Metallimeister ...DUH

  • @Metallimeister

Then listen to Bon Jovi if you prefer crying and whiny clean vocals.

  • @ChannelxxAUSTRIAxx01 I don't like Bon jovi.

However, I do like actual singers who can actually sing.

  • thats just basic solos u wud here. ur just shredding more like power metal and using death metal vocals lol. not even close but fun

  • Nice guitar skill, vocals totaly not death metal :P

  • Ridiculous

  • are you guys retarded? I don't know this guy at all or his band, nor do I like his vocal style, but it's almost impossible to find videos on this topic and he does a good job of instructing on how one might learn to do vocals while playing something more complicated than chord strumming. As for the "he's not brutal enough" argument, it's an instructional video not a fuckin live concert. Not giving a fuck would be not putting up the video at all. There is nothing else out there on this subject.

  • tapping screaming at the same time christ

  • this is pure shit

  • @ferraufe Go to A Slayer Concert and Say that those "Children" You are Speaking of will tear you to fucking peices

  • @NInajnajhuiahriwjrfi scary! I shat in my pants! jajaja Fuckyou... you and your "music"

  • @ferraufe I don't like a music genre so I'm go looking for videos to troll on all day! Hurr hurr

  • @ferraufe Obviously its alive.

  • @ferraufe What a fucking trooll. That would be troll and tool put together lolz. I don't mean to be a genius, it just happens sometimes

  • Awesome, Quentin Tarantino playing and singing metal!

  • OK let me get this straight....

    James Malone plays LTD

    I play LTD

    Y I NO SOUND LIKE THAT :D

  • What guitar tuning he uses????

  • @MatOliveiira nobody cares

  • @MatOliveiira then listen to something else.

  • @MatOliveiira Then go listen to some mainstream trash like hip-hop, rap, (most) R&B, pop, regueton, pop, punk, (most) rock, skrilex (or any dubstep, house crap they call art wich tries to imitate the awsome power of heavy techno), dance crap without any soul, meaningful lyrics, or themes of diferent mythologies.

  • @FMJman2 metal isnt the only "good" music genre...

  • @cromaticas I didint say it was the only one, just has better overall bands in preety much every sub genre. Justine timberlake is good in R&B, stone sour is great in hard rock/rock, Mary Elizabeth is great in ambient/smooth vocals, Peggy Lee is great in jazz/blues/dark jazz. But over all even if it is up for opinion there is shitty music, opinion or not.

  • @FMJman2 there is shitty metal too...

  • @cromaticas There sure is although most of it can be concentrated in a certain sub genre, like nu metal (Limp Bizkit), Metalcore (Asking Alexandria), most brutal death metal (bands like cesspool of vermin) deathcore (the red shore) but most death metal, technical death metal, progresive metal, progresive death metal is great in at least skill level and with some getting used to its a very enjoyable.

  • @cromaticas True, but you probably can't get as high as you can get when you listen to metal when you listen to other genres.

  • This is how I taught myself how to do death metal vokills/guitar! Thanks for putting it out there, James!

  • i just want to meet this guy

  • I can't even play it without singing.

  • can the 15 people who thumbed up ttdu2414's comment please tell me what he is saying?

  • he seems to be very quite, but with the "doctor house" voice

  • Who the fuuuuhhhh??

  • He awkwardly looks at the video while screaming and playing guitar and then casually and calmly recites his lyrics of death and strangulation. That's truly not giving a fuck right there.

  • @DaBoMb305 great comment :)

  • i'd say their genre would be extreme black metal

  • Bitch please! Bring Mikael Akerfeldt out!

  • Power/Black Metal, NOT DEATH METAL!

  • I don't like his voice and i thought his playing was sloppy but at the same time where there is a dry desert of material relating to this topic I found his advice really, really helpful and his ability to play and do vocals is very impressive. Given that I'm trying to learn to do this as well I am glad he put this video out there.

  • This is not singing !!!!!!!!! ridiculous

  • people who sing death have no voice!

  • @luy19832 i do deathcore vocals which is pretty much the same thing just with high screams and i have a voice lol

  • This was a really well organised and delivered lesson, I enjoyed it despite not being into Arsis or the guitar playing in general. :)

  • Arsis is technical death metal.

  • he sounds like shagrath and galder a little bit

  • THE VOICE IS SODOM

  • do you have another brain?

  • Can Somebody tell me the real name of the song he's playing?

  • 45 people don't have long hair =)

  • 45 people are dumb!!!

  • Just stumbled onto this video. Not a big fan of Arsis or that genre in general, but I respect the hell out of this guys ability. Difficult stuff.

  • Excuse me for being a noob, but what song is he playing in the beginning of the vid?

  • This guy really can't scream

  • @ArisTheEvil and thats not the point of the video.

  • The voice is more like Black Metal.

  • @RapistOfOrgy yes dude, this voice reminds me Immortal's singer

  • @grazianism ehe

  • @RapistOfOrgy it's not the voice its the lyrics death is more gore

    and black its for religion!

  • @RapistOfOrgy Their "genre" is "blackened death metal". ;]

  • Epic...

  • From what song is that tapping from?

  • @RaccoonMayhem A Diamond For Disease

  • Anyone else thinks he sounds like Brent Hinds in Cut You Up With A Linoleum Knife?

  • what a great guy

  • what a piece of shit....

  • It was funny to see him narrate the lyrics while playing the guitar instead of growling them.

  • wtf fuck that looks hard

  • Sounds like a mix between Abbath and Mustaine O___O

  • this is just cringe worthy

  • Arsis - Worship Depraved is the song he plays

  • WHY HE DOESN'T SING WITH CLEAN VOCAL, HE HAS AN AMAZING VOICE!!

  • He really seems like my type of person. Good vid, helped me a lot.

  • good lesson...not really digging ur vocal style though but awesome ability

  • He play when he sing when I play its so hard to play that He play WTF so fuckin Heavy ...

  • @ttdu2414 Hablo Ingles?

  • @1991Dgray if this is for my prononciation i'm french so sorry and no you speak espagnol here

  • @ttdu2414 good sentence

  • @TomWhaley621 thanks but i'm french so sorry for my bad prononciation :/

  • Anyone got the name of the song @3:42?

  • This guy is amazing

  • "arses"

  • omg. this is really bad. is this a joke? geez.

  • @paulpenelly How is this bad? What did you expect? How can you possibly disappointed? The video is exactly what the title says.

  • More like poseur black metal.

  • @KissMeImPunk Lol more like you're a poser faggot in general, Mr. "KissMeImPUNK".

  • @clwnz777 Would a "poser" get his rocks off on only the more underground thrash/death/death-thrash bands? I don't need to prove I'm not a faggot who only listens to Selloutica and Megashit. This account was made in 2006 with different musical tastes in mind. By calling me a "poser" you are, in essence, the true poser.

  • @KissMeImPunk That's actually what most posers these days do. Just because you're "different" and listen to bands that aren't mainstream doesn't mean you're not a poser. And that's where posers think they're "cool", because they listen to bands that nobody else does, lol. Oh, and, I don't listen to Selloutica and Megashit either. Protip: Just because they have dark themes in their lyrics doesn't make them "poser black metal". You'd be calling lots of other bands "posers" by doing that. ;)

  • @clwnz777 Unlike those fucking hipsters, I listen to the underground stuff for the music, the tone, and how much of a rush it gives me. Sure I wasn't old enough to experience it 30 or so years ago, but hell, alot of it is timeless. You sound like one of those older people that think I grow my hair out just to be "cool". What a retarded statement. If I wanted to look "cool", I would've looked like I fucked a peacock. In today's world, almost every other band sounds the same.

  • @KissMeImPunk The music, tone, and rush is still alive in a lot of the "not-underground" metal. Just because it isn't to you doesn't mean it's "poser metal". I don't see what you're trying to say with this comment... we're talking about music, not how you look. My argument still stands. "Just because they have dark themes in their lyrics doesn't make them 'poser black metal'." <- It IS death metal after all.

  • @clwnz777 I never said a damned thing about what BANDS looked like, just the music. And you can tell the specific lyrical themes what kind of genre the band is from.

  • @KissMeImPunk I didn't say anything about what bands looked like. Lyrical themes are not limited to their own genre.

  • @KissMeImPunk

Not always true about lyrical content. Some bands go as far as being pro christian/life in death or black metal.

  • Stained by the winea celebration guilt in ordinary time Profaneness enshrine, the abode of the blessed Abode of the blessed And we shall be the bearer sof the untainted darkness That descends for all time...

  • Your singing sounds like someone's just stepped on an old lady's foot

  • screemo sucks

  • @Mikerockgod3

This isn't screamo. Do you even know what screamo is? Screamo is where there's screams in alternative rock. Very different from death metal or black metal. Black metal and death metal is basically thrash with screams in it. So don't even start dawg.

  • @TurkeyTuck be embarrassed that you know that

  • Oh yay! James Malone from Arsis is a GREAT guitarist :D

  • I AM HEeERE *doodoodooleedeedoodooo* xD

  • sounds a little like chuck schuldiner

  • alexi laiho is your student??

  • @r2d2slipknot what the hell are you talking about? Alexi Laiho has a far better screaming voice than this guy...

  • @sixpounder94 Malone's screams kills Laiho's.

  • @SoaSlashed no, Laiho's are definitely better, this guy's...

  • @sixpounder94 definitely no lol

  • @tomsawyerbmik how does this guy have better screams or growls that Alexi? this guy sounds like a retard when he screams/growls...

  • @r2d2slipknot laiho is better but im glad someone on youtube finally knows who he is lol

  • @TangeClown laiho better than james malone? u must be kidding i hope

  • Comment removed

  • @TangeClown this guy owns alexi

  • @joakoz01928374650192 ill take peoples word for it.

  • @joakoz01928374650192 failure.

  • @Reed0Sparky0Leighton alexi fail playing solos

  • @joakoz01928374650192 What?! Dude.... Are you deaf??? Alexi is one of the best at what he does. Still a failure.

  • @Reed0Sparky0Leighton lol, alexi just play sloppy solos, one of the bests?

just listen wintersun.....Jari is the best

  • @joakoz01928374650192 Never not once did i say Alexi was the best. But he is one of the best. His solos arent sloppy. But he isnt technical. He believes more in soul and character of playing guitar. Jari is too technical. He has less character and playing guitar is all about character and soul. Not all about technicality.

  • @Reed0Sparky0Leighton

    sloppy--->/watch?v=lEoiQn6WN2g

    sloppy--->/watch?v=iHJcbMyTu9M

alexi is good creating songs, very original but he should train guitar technique :/

  • @joakoz01928374650192 Haha. OK so in the first one he has a two slight strings mutes which dont sound perfect. I gurantee you Jari does the same thing. Joe Satriani does. Steve Vai. They all do it. No body is perfect. But missing only two notes isnt far from it. Chill down a lil bro and accept the fact that im right and your fighting a usless arguement that has no bearing on the way the universe at all. \/ peace dude.

  • Damn his vocals suck

  • @EpiclandOfficial its just a example voice :B

  • @EpiclandOfficial hes vocals are good..the music you listen suck

  • The best singing/shredding combination I've ever seen was with John Sykes. He can tear up the fretboard like a mofo and sing with a bluesy swagger that would make Otis Redding proud!

  • @6672rock but for a little but otis would be like WTF!?????? lol

  • laiho is pretty cool at singing and playing

  • James hits on something here. When trying to do vocals in timing with instruments, how long the notes (of the vocal) should be is somewhat apparent to you (assuming you have rhythm...). Sometimes the most difficult part is starting the particular vocal on the right beat. Once you know which note lines up with which word or phrase, everything seems to just flow out.

  • He is singing like Dave Mustaine :P

  • more skilled than a SPEECH Therapist! Awesome

  • its funny how he calls it a 'G' even though he's tuned down so it's actually an F. i do the same thing though.

  • @LiamMcRaeMusic You're supposed to do that when tuned down. It makes it easier to communicate your ideas.

  • @LiamMcRaeMusic Yeah. It's just way simpler to always refer to something in standard Tuning rather than remembering what Tuning you're in and modulating everything. Plus, that makes it easier for People who are used to standard Tuning to go to the right Spot.

  • @LiamMcRaeMusic I think it's easier that way to explain to people using standard tuning and even with down tuned, since we all learn the xG's as positions in a fret

  • @LiamMcRaeMusic Same here haha!!! Why do all the transposing nonstop. It's only a pain when you're with a keyboardist cause then you have no choice to do it haha.

  • One of the most underrated metal guitarists... in means of both composing and technique...

  • FAG

  • @lucasricardofolco are you ?

  • pause the video and press 1 if you like DIek

  • He looks like the rev.

  • @XIIdmb53IIX never realised that

  • @EviscerationK glad ya do now :D
