Collins sold his book right for less then clarkson gets in one episode. Probably a quarter of what clarkson gets for ONE episode. He's an utter wanker clarkson, its only funny up to a point. I always suspected Clarkson didn't do a lot of the driving! You would get the close up in the car then in the mid range shots you can never see his face. Apparently he was rumbled by the press so decided to release the book, whatever the reason the other 3 all earned probably 10 times what Ben did who can blame him. He had a lot of input on stunt ideas as well. His book is a good read he had a lot of bad luck in his racing career. Face it shove the No 1 F1 driver in No 3 team car they won't win

However great Top Gear is/was, I can't expect a guy to work for the show and not be able to receive the same benefit as everyone else does who are attached to the show. Everyone, both behind and in front of the camera, is able to secure additional and future employment based on their resume. At this point, Top Gear's best years are clearly behind them and Collins deserves praise for whatever part he has contributed to it.

I have deliberately stayed out of the chat on this video, it's fun to see all the comments about Ben and how freaked out some of you are about his book.

I've met Ben on a couple of occasions and he's a really nice guy, I do agree that he should have talked to the guys on Top Gear before getting ready to publish the book but there was a bit of bad form from BBC with court cases and all that.

In anycase it is the programme called Top Gear that "made" all of them. Sure, Clarkson made it the success it is, but any motoring show is going to be popular. @Sidowse You can't say that just any motoring show is going to be as popular as TG. The British version is the most watched TV show in the world.. 350 million viewers worldwide. I know tons of people, including me, who aren't really "into" cars at all, and are still huge fans of TopGear. I never watch Fifth Gear or any thing like that because I find them incredibly boring. TopGear is hugely entertaining, and that's why it's as successful as it is.

@stonerh Clarkson and the other two presenters have made it the massive success it is, but Fifth Gear is quite popular too, especially considering its 1/3 of the length with a very small budget. However, Fifth Gear is a bit weird as it has lots of presenters but so little time for them to present. Also for a while they were looking too much at what the competition was doing (something with which they could never compete) rather than trying to be different and fill the gaps that TopGear leaves.

Jeezo, give the old Stig a break. No-one cares who was, is, and will be the Stig. It was a great character to introduce and revitalised the Top Gear show, along with the 'Star-in-a-Car' and the Road trip elements of the show. I wish him well.
