Hallie doesn't look like Real Helen sorry.I made a mistake while writing. She 's dark haired and eyed, real Helen was like i described her, blue eyed and light chestnut haired.
This version is quite good after all except for Helen's mother ,the other roles are good.A mention for me to the actress playing Ann sullivan.SHe's very good. But Hallie heisenberg doesn't like like helen at all physically i mean.Just look some HElen keller's real photos.Helen was blue eyed and chestnut hair!Hallie is dark eyed and hair!no resemblance at all.Hallie plays good but isn't enough angry.A bit wise, real Helen was more furious. But for a girl her age she acts good.
@pinkerxz i wonder if she is really blind. My best friend is blind and his eyes and general expression are very indicative of a blind person and her's look a lot like his in this way.. . of course her eyes stand out in her head like a normal set of eyes.. people who have been blind from birth tend to have slightly sunken eyes (from lack of muscle use)
@groovylocks yes. helen keller was really blind and deaf. Helen graduated from college with Annie Sullivan's help. She also wrote a biography. I did a report on this in 6th grade. It's a wonderful story.
i think da original movie is better than this one. helen is ment to have dirty clothes, messy hair ect, da black and white film captures that :) also annie seems more feisty in da original
"Well, do they expect a blind person to teach another one." Well DUH! She knows about more about it because she went through it herself. This man is stupid!
@emily9396 It is pretty good, but to be honest the 1962 version starring Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke was much better, more dramatic, and I believe more realistic in terms of acting. Check and see if your library has it, it will be well worth the effort! :) The 1962 version is one of my favorite movies.
I've lived in Alabama all my life and these fake accents are driving me nuts. This is like trying to tolerate the accents in Big Fish. I wish directors would just hire southern actors.
@SavannahTheCat uum the boy that plays james IS a fully blown southern boy, look it up on imdb. ( i ben down south before and there are people that do talk like that... and therres also plenty that dont it depennds on area, just like in tenn, and ga, and te carolinas, some sound '' southern, or country '' and many have a fairly neurtal accent ( pardon spelling )
If only her senses that are impaired and not the mind she must have a language. Language is more important to the mind than light is to the eye. I'll teach any way I can" -- what a great line!
@willgordon13 That was not nice to say. She makes that noise in the movie because she cant talk. Thats the whole point of the movie. Shes neither stupid or crazy. Why dont you stop watching the whole movie if you dont like it and comment on another persons video that you think is crazy like you said because if you dont and keep commenting, more people are gonna keep telling you the same thing. Just to let you know!
@fisteberg I agree Patty's acting abilities out weighs Hallie's. I only mentioned the difference in age and experience to give Hallie a little more credit.
I actually prefer Hallie Kate Eisenberg's portrayal of Helen Keller to any previous ones. You really get the sense that she's completely isolated within herself. With the others i just didn't get that feeling. Very well done for someone so young, i think.
Oh yes I know that. Without Annie she would have been frustrated her whole life because she wouldn't have understood enough. Bad manners and attitude as well since her parents weren't willing to teach her good ones.
They don't show in this movie that the real Helen Keller did communicate with the people in the house so they could know what they wanted. She did a lot of hand signals to tell them. Of course that doesn't mean by any means there was no need for Annie Sullivan, but she did communicate with them in ways before Annie came.
oh yes I know that. I was just saying this version portrays Helen as not being able to communicate at all when in reality she could. Course she was frustrated but she could communicate with hand signs to get something she wanted. This movie doesn't show that.

I feel bad for Helen's brother. He must have went through a lot, with Helen as a sister. No wonder he seems rude.
