don't waste your time on a 32-36DGV- they are built like crap compared to a japanese carb. try to get the 38mm hitachi SU-type twin carbs. you can get the SSS air cleaner for the street and this is a much more driveable and faster setup. you won't regret it and you can upgrade to some used L24 46mm carbs quite easily with the same manifold and air cleaner. on the street, torque is king and you will have way more of it this way than you could with that 'spanish holley'.
you don't want to do ANYTHING with an L16 unless you have a full house crank. get an L18 crank or whole motor or an early (U60) L20B. A Z22 w/long rods would be motor masturbation unless you have a Z24 block or some short slug pistons (cha-ching). when you say 'big bore', you must mean 87mm/larger. great, but you are eliminating piston choices when you go bigger than 86mm. all you have left are Z22/Z24 pistons. its more important to have zero deck height. bigger is better; compression makes HP.
I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree!
@cobrachoppergirl Depends completely on the environment that you have the vehicle in. Most of the time, the engine will come out OKAY if you don't do it a lot. Just think of it this way, you can't even set the air/fuel mixture ratio with a air cleaner on. Doesn't hurt the engine then.
Which engine? Would it be worth to put such a carb on a L16? I'm expecting to add a better carb to my L16 engine which only has about 25k miles and stock carb.
I have a long rod motor. pretty much a lZ 2.2 with a big bore. that is why I needed the carbs. if you have a L16 stock don't go with dual sidedrafts like these unless you have some motor work. maybe you can use dual su's but a single dgv should be good for you
hard to say as it depends on condition of motor and all other variables like timing and how well the carb is tuned but most times a stock motor with a good dgv should be good for a daily driver with decent gas mileage. 10 hp on any car is big gain. supposedly a dgv is good for motors 2 ltr or less and motor larger will need more injection hence sidedrafts like what I have.
so.. what was that supposed to do for me?

can you do that? run a car without air filters? seems like a quick path to an eventually tore up engine.
cobrachoppergirl 2 years ago
@cobrachoppergirl you can, the air has to be clean and no dust/ dirt from another car but its not recommended

I used to have a 510 with the same 2.2, mikuni carbs too. That thing was fun! Why the hell did I sell it?

I'm in the same boat. What should I expect from a single dgv? 10hp? Anyway I think 10 more in these cars for daily driving are really good!
