america project naval power ! thats ok with me fine your our allies .. you forgot however that america also destroys its own historical monuments with crappy music :)
lol poster is such a faggot, i read the comments he keeps up above that he THINKS make his look like internet tough guys, but in reality his faggy music choice shows us how gay he is.
Dude.... I can look at photos of this ship on google any time ,and I can hear crappy music at any stoplight if i roll my windows down. What a waste of time.
@vonjager Happy Holidays to you as well. Thanks for your comment, and I also Thank all 112.000+ views of my video. A special thanks to "vonjager," for keeping score. What are the most views of your videos vonjager, I dare not say.
Hmm, vonjager, aren't you the same guy that said the discovery of electricity and the invention of the telephone is a waste of time? Oh sorry, I confused you with the naysayers.
@ComputerCleanRoom You brag about having a lot of views, but arent they all because you are just fooling people with your shitty slideshow into thinking it is a real video?
IF THE NAVIES ACROSS THE WORLD WLD THINK OTHERWISE , DEN Modify THESE BEAUTIES WITH ADVANCE AIR AND ANTI MISSLE DEFENCE SYSTEMS and ADD ON ADVANCED TARGETING REQUISTION. PLUS THEIR HEAVIER ARMOUR WHICH IS THE BACKBONE OF THESE BATTLESHIPS, THEY CAN STILL DO PLENTY OF DAMAGE MILES AWAY. NO MATTER HOW FAR THE DISTANCE IS , NOTHING IS TOO HARD 4 the BATTLESHIPS ANYTIME ANYWHERE !!!
Is REALLY SAD TO SEE BATTLESHIPS OUT OF ACTION IN 2DAY"S NAVIES ACROSS THE WORLD. I REALLY PRAY THESE BABES(BATTLESHIPS) WLD B BROUGHT BACK 2 LIve. BESIDES THESE SHIPS R LEGEND OF COMBAT HISTORY AND STRATIGIC NAVAL BOMBARDMENT.
I understand there is consideration to bring these battleships back into action using electromagnetic rail gun technology. The 16" guns would have a range of around 300 nautical miles and fire at 8 times the speed of sound.
cmpunkfan14: you mean the famous picture of that kamikaze zero about to hit missouri ? well that cool :) if one wants to see the pic, then just type 'kamikaze uss missouri' to google and you WILL find that picture for sure ;)
If the Bismark took all the punishment it took from the Brits in the air....do you really think a missile could penetrate the 16in thick armour on the superstructure of this ship? I know it wouldn't penetrate the hull belt armour.
Im sure the Iraqis said the same thing in Desert Storm, only to later be seen waving white flags at the goddamn observation UAVs cause they knew 16" gun salvos was coming next. Yes...an army battalion surrendering to a battleship says a lot about the fear factor of these elder gun platforms.
nothing really says FUCK YOU !!!!! like the big battle ships... The real reason why they will never be brought back,, is the intense amount of fear that they cause.. So let's revisit the facts,,, all of you little pussies... No mater where these battle wagons go.. They simply overwhelm and kick ass.. They were never designed to back down..
"chrthiel"...your stupid, thats enough said. 16 in guns dont really do damage? thats was the UN said they were to dangerous, and america decommisioned. the guns can make an island dissapear..
I went on the Mighty Mo' (mainly because it plays a prominent role in Metal Gear Solid 4, where it is fictionally recommissioned in the future), and boy, I would've shit bricks if I knew I was facing THAT!
I know I'm inviting a major shitstorm her, but here I go anyway.
They will never be recommissioned, and thank god for it. They're ludicrously expensive to maintain, have a very narrow mission profile and doesn't even do that all that well and they don't have a snowballs chance in hell of surviving anything even resembling serious opposition. (Seriously, four Phalanx CIWS and zilch else! And contrary to popular belief, modern Anti-Ship missiles has plenty of phew-phew to incapasitate a BB.)
Nope, they were recommissioned in the 1980ies because doing so was the fastest way to get a lot of Tomahawks and Harpoons to sea. Their guns had very little to do with it. Indeed, they were the first things that would have been cut if the modernization ran into cost overruns.
That's because you understand Mahon's concept of "Seapower". It's not the ship, it's the ability to control a large portion of sea scape. The carriers do that better then any surface ship. The subs promise revenge, but because they must be hidden to work well, they don't project seapower the way a carrier does. I love the "Big Mo" but her day in the sun has passed.
The money needed to reactivate and upgrade all 4 Iowas to future standard is less than what it costs to build a single destroyer. The US navy is braindead if they can't see what fantastic canvases the BBs are for placing on some of the best equipment and deadliest firepower in the world.
they removed because they would be really weak against carriers
in ww2 the order of strongest ships was carriers THEN battleships
a battleship cant shoot what it cant see right? think of the yammy...largest battleship ever...destroyed by aircraft. even with aa guns its still hard to shoot down planes
The Yamato was lost due to the lack of Air cover available to the Japanese Navy at that stage of the conflict. It held off attacks from 400 aircraft, being hit by 10 torpoedoes and 7 bombs before sinking due to a munitions explosion. I would regard that as an immense accomplishment. Give a modern day battleship the latest CIWS, SAM and Railgun technology, and the electronics and detection equipment in a space many times that of the of size a tiny jet, and it would be an unstoppable force.
WOW, that's a pretty bold thing to say. I have gone to the liberty of justifying my point, yet you clearly can't be arsed to do likewise. You are a waste of my time.
i had a chance to visit and walk on the Miss before the Gulf War when she was at Puget Sound in Washington .. before being re-commisioned, that was intense!.. still have a few photos, also visited the USS Massachusettes quite a few times at Battleship Cove in Fall River Mass. un believable the size of these monsters, i'm 6'1 and standing next to a shell is almost my full height

Actually, when they were recommissioned in the'80s, it was said it would take at least 5 Soviet "Styx" SSMs to sink an Iowa class BB.

A new USS Missouri will be coming online in the US Navy in the near future. It will be one of the new Virginia class attack submarines.

I have to agree
they also make one fine museum!
and I also think they used them in iraq as more of a status symbol they werent really needed
and 91 is along time ago, theyre not coming back
