okay this kind of helped me. but im having some problems with the audio and adding music. it wont let me add any music to the video. when i drag the music that i want to the video it wont add the music. it will only allow me to add a video track not a music track

hmmm ive done exactly what you did in the vid but when i render it in the end i only get a black screen O.o whats the deal with that? i mean ive put some small vids together put some music under it and render it ( to avi for testing & default settings ) but i got a black movie in the end. Pls Help!

are you missing a codec?, so that your computer doesn't see the type of file you are 'rendering as'?

hey thx for the basic info,s u made it simple like nothing at all ,but i have problem i deal with heavy avi files tha smallest maybe 200 MB so sony vegas at some point freazes and stop to work and all my progress lost ??? any idea wat is that and hey before that happen the video i add to the timeline also stop moving but the audio is playing and the timeline bar ???? help

Do you have enough RAM and is your CPU powerful enough? This might be the issue. You should have at least 4 GB RAM to do video editing especially if you are on Vista.

yeh i have a 4 GB ram and my cpu is a 3.00 GHz intel core2 duo ??? so i guess it is somthing else , for notice it is avi files that has been recorded using xfire so i need sony vegas to edit them but once i do many things it just freazes like hell and all is gone ???? i have vista by the way could be it ?

once you render the file from sony vegas open it up in windows movie maker and don't do anything to it just put the video in the store line then click file>save project as... then it should make it a lot smaller but the more you shrink it the smaller the screen is going to be when anyone watches it

Get Gspot codec checker and make sure you have the correct codec installed.
