  • Oksana, I'mma let you finish, but Nancy had the best performance of ALL TIME!

  • wheres the pipe

  • this music is cheesy

  • hit her with that pipe call her nacy kerrigan! thumbs up for strange clouds:P

  • She should have won gold! Beautiful technical and artistic program. Oksana skated like a girl, Nancy a woman.

  • Technically good, but not artistic...like Sasha or yuna.

  • Yeah nancy!! I know ir nefphew or cousin dan. He was in my pod laat year in 5th grade

  • judges were bribed by Chaz Micheal Micheals.....

  • she should've won.

  • I think Nancy was better then Oksana but Oksana had such a hard life before this that I was glad she had won

  • I found the performance boring. With most who are at peak, they don't take chances anymore, and are repetitive. Her nasty attitude also reflected in her performance where confidence became arrogance. You Lose.

  • Nancy totally deserved the gold here - no question about it. Oksana's magical presentation was not enough to make up for her sloppy two footed jumps in both short and long. Also, as much as I liked Nancy, I have to admit that I think the judges were rather generous with her marks throughout her mediocre and inconsistent career - i wonder why the judges didn't reward her this time when she actually had a great skate.

  • this is about skating.......technical.artistic,and overall appearance..............Nancy had the whole package

  • Never liked Nancy Kerrigan. Her attitude while waiting for Oksana before the medal ceremony only made me dislike her more. What a spoiled brat.

    Dawn

  • I wonder when I read about "under-marked" for a technical score and nobody say she DIDN'T deserve such number of 5.9 for an artistic. She probably should have had 5.8 for a technical merit and 5.7 for artistic.

  • Nancy did two flawless combination jumps, Oksana did not. And the one judge who had to decide? Jann Hoffman from communist East Germany, a cold bloc country..what a surprise, huh? And it was Hoffman who lost the '80 mens;' gold in the same way...by 1 tenth of a point...a revenge factor maybe? Hmmmmm..

  • @oofahman Actually Hoffman's vote was really the most defensible of the five who placed Baiul first because he at least acknowledged Kerrigan's technical edge (though not by a large enough margin considering the differences in what they completed). Hoffman's integrity was defended by Scott Hamilton in a later broadcast, and I'm inclined to believe him. It was the Czech, Ukrainian, and Chinese judges who had Baiul winning on higher technical marks that made this so ridiculous a ruling.

  • Comment removed

  • @ADEAL416: and i think hoffman even said a few years later he wouldn't have placed Baiul first if replays were available to them back then.

  • @lexlib That's one I've never heard. Do you know where you found this bit of information? It's interesting in any event

  • @ADEAL416: i read it somewhere several year's back. can't remember where. hoffman was one of 3 judges who placed michelle kwan first in nagano together with the polish and american judges.

  • Nancy definitely has a much more tasteful dress than Oksaba Baiul, but I think I like Oksana's artistry better.

  • @KathyKlamisme It is not a fashion show...it's the Olympics...However I do agree with you on the Oksana's artistry.

  • Shes okay

  • Ok so artisticly she wasn't the best, even in this program, BUT I do feel and see she skated with her heart that night. She shouldv'e won without a doubt. Everything happens for a reason I suppose. Oksana needed the gold medal way more than Nancy did. Nancy had a family and a certified income afterwards due to the scandal. Oksana did not. Nancy still got a ton of endorsment deals, had a great pro career, had her own family & made a fortune. Look what happened to Oksana. Nancy did win in the end.

  • @Letissiaskatetapes24 You think she won just because she has money? Oksana is an artist, maybe the greatest female skater of all time. She will be remembered forever... Nancy, I don't know if she will be remembered out of USA so long.

  • @Porporinablu She was a beautiful skater who was great, but definitely not one of the greatests and I'm not just saying that because she had a DUI at 18. That is irrellevant. Her Olympic LP proved that. And I think you read my comment wrong. I never said she won because she had money. She had no money, that I do know. I said she won and Nancy won silver for a reason, it was meant to be. Oksana overall needed the gold more in the grand scheme of things. Why?

  • @Porporinablu Why did Oksana need the win more in the grand scheme of things? Because she would have a better life with that win. Nancy financially didn't need it. Oksana really did. If she had won silver she would've been completely forgotten unless she continued as an amature and won in Nagano. Which at the time probably wouldn't have worked out. Because of the attack on her Nancy was America's sweetheart & everyone wanted a piece of her. Gold or Silver endorsement deals were going to happen.

  • @Letissiaskatetapes24 Oksana earned the Gold Medal...Nancy was too busy counting on the sympathy factor and look at the color outfit she is wearing...she thought she had a lock on that gold medal. Not trying to ruffle any feathers just stating my opinion

  • @1dallasmetalgirl Please..And "Miss FrooFroo the Electrified Poodle" Baiul didn;t play on her "Oh my poor, pathetic life, all alone..wah wah wah"...she was handed that gold medal by the eastern bloc countries as usual...She was the SILVER medalist...Nancy;s artistry was so superior to WahWah's....ugh...no contest.

  • oksana looks like she's a child competing in a woman's competition!

  • A horse on skates. A piece of wood on skates. COME ON PEOPLE.

What a lackluster performance compared to Oksana or even Tonya for that matter.

  • Listen I'm a huge Yamaguci fan. But how did this not win?!

  • @purplegirl353 Um wrong years. Kristi won in 1992. This is the 1994 Olympics where Oksana Baiul won. And yes she should have won with this performance.

  • @Letissiaskatetapes24 hahaha I meant Baiul. I'm not sure why I wrote Yamaguci.

  • I think after the truth came out about the figure skating judges with the David and Jamie ordeal, everyone realized Nancy was also a victim of the politics in figure skating.

  • SOUTH PARK

  • I agree--she should have won. She was under-marked on her technical score--"leaving room" hurt her and was unnecessary because Oksana didn't have a triple-triple. Nancy should have had no lower than a 5.8 for her tech mark.

  • @idolfan9495; not only no triple-triple but no triple combination at all and two mistakes on the jumps. Kerrigan only doubled her flip but seeing as she doubled her flip in the short and won it, that shows that technically its acceptable. Well figure skating although beautiful has some UGLY politics in it, i have noticed now 10 years into watching it. Its best we just watch and enjoy the beauty and what the skaters bring individually and make the result second, cuz politics are first :(

  • @idolfan9495 She also doubled a triple ,which she did not make up for...Oksana also doubled a triple, but made it up and to quote one of the judges that night..."It came down to Artistic impression" and that is Oksana's strong suit

  • @1dallasmetalgirl Baiul two-footed the jump that she threw in to make up for the doubled one, so she still gets no credit for that jump. I remind you that only in the minds of two of the five judges who put Baiul first did it come down to artistic impression--Poland and Germany. The other three--Czech, Ukraine, and China, gave it to Baiul on higher technical marks, and that cannot be legitimately justified.

  • I've stood by this since I started watching figure skating, Nancy Kerrigan should've been the 1994 Olympic Champion this was the better performance!!!!

  • SHES A REAL NEV

  • I'm sorry, and with all deference to Vera Wang, but you don't put someone who is in contention for the Olympic Gold in taupe or beige on the biggest night of her life. The styling and workmanship on the dress are fantastic, but the color makes her disappear on the ice. The ice surface just seems to visually devour her in this color. I'm not saying that you have to pick something overwhelmingly bright and garish, but you need something with a little more life to it.

  • Technically the best but her artistry was always lacking. She was graceful but there was an emptiness to her skating. She went through the motions of the choreography and music but you could tell she wasn't really feeling it. Oksana deserved the gold IMO. While she was slightly weaker technically she nailed the artistry. Nancy could only excel on the technical.

  • @julie575 There is more to artistry than just emoting to the music. Edging, flow, positions, and carriage are all part of it. Nancy was superior to Oksana in those aspects IMO.....

  • What music is this? It left something to be desired, though she did deserve the Gold.

  • What music is this? It left something to be desiered, though she did deserve the Gold.

  • @The1GenericUsername Certain portions of the music selection are OK (like the beginning). But other portions are embarassing and just awful. Didn't they consult with anyone on this? Ridiculous.

  • scott always sounds the same on every commentary he does in the begining...

  • Her music selection sucked, and she definitely lacked the charisma of Baiul, but I still think Nancy should have won. Baiul couldn't do a clean jump to save her life that night, the judges must have been as blind as Nancy's mom!

  • @TinyAva93 OMG - HILARIOUS and I agree with you on all points!

  • Technically very good but artistically and choreographically, not in the same league as Baiul. In fact, apart from the jumps the programme was boring. Sorry, but the right lady won in Lillehammer.

  • She DID deserve to win the gold here, but I agree that I was turned off when she seemed to be so snobby during the medal ceremony, as well as after the games. I guess there is no right way to handle her situation, but she seemed totally unrelatable, and we like our champions to be relatable.

  • Ppl get over it oksana won due to her trying to correct the errors she made on her previous jumps. If Nancy would have redone the first jump which was doubled instead of tripled then she may have won. I'm American not biased n besides even after this Nancy went on to b sour grapes n all that carrying on.

  • @Sunshinesimmons Nancy went on to be "sour grapes" because she was filmed when she was emotionally exhausted after all this; after the attack, the Olympics buildup, the performance...she was tired and annoyed that the medal ceremonies were delayed. The camera caught her being human. *GASP* And the US suddenly turned on her, after all that support. How would you feel? It's not her fault, it's the fickle public for putting her on a pedestal then suddenly saying she's not good enough.

  • they gave it to oksana because nancy is wearing a vera wang dress..she was privilaged. she trained in the best possible conditions. it's not fair but this is why oksana won. oksana was homeless and trained in poverty conditions..the ring she trained at was literally cleaned by her and other skaters hands. they had no scraper. she lived with her coach and had nothing. nancy was more talented but this is NOT what those judges were looking at...could nancy have trained in oksanas conditions?

  • @pmsou No.. why why...??? That's what's ringing in my head after a pipe hits your shin. Man up, get over it! They didn';t "give" it to anyone! This is the Olympics. Do you think it's a big joke? If it makes you feel better to think that, then, well, knock yourself out! Oksana WON that! Own it.

  • @ralphyization Nancy was technically better. way way better. Maybe the judges were sick of hearing about nancy because she had been in the news so much because of her shin. idk but I do know that she deserved gold. she was artistically good and technically good. oksana was fun to watch but technically???? No way did she even come close to nancy. sorry.

  • @pmsou oksana wasn't "fun": she was beautiful and elegant in a way that nancy couldn't reach, even if she was precise and athletic.

  • @Porporinablu she was beautiful and elegant. Nancy gave superior skating all the way around because she gave us both artistically and technically. If nancy had sucked artistically i could see your point but she didn't ! lol She was beautiful to watch too! Everyone knew at the time, even the commentators, that nancy should have won. lol

  • @pmsou yes, she didn't suck at all, I love her LP, I simply think that Oksana had generally an elegance I've rarely seen elsewhere. I miss her. Nancy was really, really good but I don't look at her as someone who made history with her skating

  • @Porporinablu Nah. She was fun. Cute and perky. Technically, it was close. I prefer the maturity.

  • @pmsou I read somewhere that Vera actually loaned Nancy that dress and from everything I have read about the Kerrigans they weren't rich. Her dad worked two jobs and her mother was legally blind. I am not disagreeing ...I am questioning. I don't believe that Nancy was privileged at all...just a very hard worker. What are your thoughts?

  • @getrealandsee Now that you say that, I remember watching this when it originally aired. They had her mom in a special room with a HUGE tv, and she had her nose pressed up against it, just so she could see her skate.

  • @getrealandsee I would agree that Nancy worked incredibly hard to get where she was at. I wasn't trying to take anything away from her. I think she should have won.

  • i like kristi yamiguchi i love her so much she is a ice skater i love her so so much i love her

  • Can't stand her. NEVER could. I was so happy when Oksana won the gold!

    Dawn

  • i love kristi yamaguchi very much

  • I thought Nancy deserved the gold. Too bad judges thought cutesy moves from Baiul were more important than the stirring performance from Nancy who had the difficult elements.

  • @ADEAL416 I watched very concentrated both programs again and in a german slow motion you see that neither the Flip nor the Toeloop were two-footed. They were very close to it but were clean!! And trying a triple is better to do only a double jump

And never Kerrigan was close to a 6, she could have never gain more than a 5.9!

I'm very happy that okasan won, because in the media it was only kerrigan and harding, Oksana deserved it!

  • @gonzo77ffm Are you saying that Oksana's triple flip wasn't two footed? If so, I think you're watching the wrong program. It was an obvious two foot landing. The triple toe loop was less obvious but it was also two footed. Give Oksana the Artistic mark - but Nancy's program was technically superior by 2 to 3 tenths. That was the travesty with this competition as it is with most skating competitions: they judged on reputation not the program.

Oh well...it's history and just my opinion. :)

  • @gonzo77ffm Ditto the earlier response. I don't know what program you're watching, but it wasn't this one. You can be happy all you want, but technically those marks were a travesty that they were that close together. Again, I agree that Nancy was not deserving of a 6--those couple of short sections where her moves were a bit garish ruin that possibility, but as has been said many times, even if you got Baiul the slight artistic edge, it's not enough to overcome Kerrigan's technical edge.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • I know I'll be hated for this..but she is over rated. Truly an amazing athlete, but there were other who were better. No hate please, just my humble opinion.

  • @BarleyJack72 In all of skating history, sure. In this Olympics, not by a long shot.

  • ROBBED, ROBBED, ROBBED!

  • what kind of music is this? It's terrible.

  • She was robbed!!!!

  • @ADEAL416 i think til today that it is more important to show all the 3 jumps than having a 3toe-3toe comb (the easy one) or more of the same 3jumps

but what do you mean with completed triple jumps 5-3?

    O. had 5 (every triple) and 2 double axels and K. 6(with the comb.) and 1 shaky 2axel and no 3flip and artistically Oksana was far better, so that the difference in the technical mark is not that important

and by the way: the moves at 1:46 and 3:48 are horrible and far from artistic moves

  • First, the ease of the triple toe loops goes out the window when it has to be followed by a second one. A triple-triple is a triple-triple and was more than what Baiul completed. To answer your second question about 5-3, Baiul's flip and toe loop were both two-footed, the flip more glaringly so than than the toe loop. A two footed jump DOES NOT COUNT as a completed element. As far as scoring is concerned, Baiul and Kerrigan were equal in terms of triple flips--i.e. neither completed one

  • the two-footing on the toe loop is a bit harder to spot, but even if you don't notice it, it's still a 5-4 edge with no combination triples, let alone a triple-triple for Baiul. Artistry is very subjective (and I agree that those two brief moments were not Kerrigan's finest--were it not for those, I would say her program might be worthy of a 6 on the second mark. But notice no judge thought there was more than .1 difference between the two on the second mark, even if they gave one a slight edge

  • I agree, by the way, that the two brief moments you cite are not necessarily great moments in figure skating artistry. But the rest of the program was (as was most of Baiul's, I acknowledge). Without those minor blemishes, the program might be worthy of a 6 artistically. But again, very subjective. Technical elements, not as much so. And again, that was the travesty here, for all the reasons outlined. (BTW, if you want to call K's 2A "shaky" so was Baiul's only combination (2A/2T at the end)

  • Well considerin i wasnt even borned at this point maybe im the wrong person to speak, but comparing this to oksana's i personaly think nancy skated better and shouldve won the gold "/

  • @ADEAL416 i don't think it was far better she was a a bit better kerrigan only doubled the Flip an the double axel was shaky, and at the end oksana made a double axel- double toe combination. So I admit that technically Kerrigan was a bit better but in the "complete package" she was only second.

    And one thing:

I never liked Kerrigan, but this time she made her best programs of her life and she deserved the silver medal really! It's maybe the best competition I remember ever at ladies competition

  • @gonzo77ffm You're forgetting the edge in completed triple jumps for Nancy over Oksana, 5-3, and the edge in triples in combination 3-0, including a triple-triple. That adds up to a HUGE edge on the first mark over Baiul, and even if you gave Baiul an edge on the second mark, you can't justify more than a .1 edge. Kerrigan should have had at LEAST .2 if not .3 on the first mark. This result was one of the biggest robberies in Olympic history.

  • haven't seen this in a long time...other that the flip, she skated the program of her life...she was robbed!!!!

  • haven't seen this in a long time...other that the flip, she skated the program of her like...she was robbed!!!!

  • is this Kerrigan before she became queen of the Zerg

  • I will always believe that Nancy deserved the gold. She had better jumps, harder spins. Oksana's jumps were flawed, her spins had zero combos, and she did way way way to much "posing". And when she stoked to gain speed she bounced a lot, very jerky and sloppy.. Her 'Oksana' short program was BEAUTIFUL!! Her long, I HATED !!Nancy forever !

  • I've heard a lot of people say that Nancy Kerrigan is the best skater of all time and that Michelle Kwan was just a poser.

  • OKSANA BAIUL was better in every way, Kerrigan wasn't able to beat her artistically

  • @gonzo77ffm even if that's true, Kerrigan was so far superior technically on this night that a slight artistic edge for Baiul should not not have been enough to overcome what should have been a .3 edge for Kerrigan on the first mark. Five clean triples, three of which were in combination, including a triple-triple for Kerrigan to three clean triples, none in combination for Baiul.

  • Nancy was robbed.

  • Oksana *was* a better skater *but* Nancy had a stronger package that night. It's that simple.

  • I totally agree with DC205504. Style, Grace, Artistry topped off with technical perfection was robbed by age appropriate dancing in place, two footed landings, sloppy skating/edging. Yes Oksana skated fast which made the whole program seem rushed. Oksana was gifted to gold.

  • Technically superior but not creative......that made the difference with Oksana Baiul's performance....

  • Robbed. Plain and simple. Two clean, well done programs vs. OK but marred programs. Think it now as I thought it then - Nancy and the US got robbed out of a gold medal. The real travesty is not in the second mark, but in the first. NO way did OB deserve 5.9's on her first mark, nor should she have beaten Nancy on any of the judges cards.

And to those who say that Nancy wasn't artistic - please rewatch the 2nd set of marks: six 5.9's + three 5.8's. I think they speak for themselves.

  • Oksana's The Swan took my breath away. Every second of it was enchanting. She deserved to win.

Personally, I think it's a pity Michelle Kwan was too young to go to the olympics instead of kerrigan.

As for the showdown between kerrigan and harding...Harding could have beaten Nancy easily.

  • Nancy Kerrigan had no artistic ability at all. That's it! However, i still think that she deserves the gold medal!

  • This is Nancy "MY KNEE, MY KNEE" Caarrigan...I remember there was a huge hype for the Nancy Carrigan vs. Tonya Harding Showdown & then Tonya Harding had someone hit Nacy Carrigan in the knee w/ a lead pipe...I was only in the beginning of 4th grade at the timed...

  • omgosh her spin combinations are like AMAZING!!!

  • Nancy skated very well, but this performance just doesn't have the sparkle that Oksana had.

  • @CarlaLR74 Maybe not -- but the difficulty of this program compared to Oksana B's in not even close. That's where the travesty in the marks is. A triple-triple combo alone put her two or three marks above Oksana performance. A would love for someone to explain how Oksana's tech mark could be 5.9s ... or 5.8s for that matter. If you watched the whole competition objectively - Bauil should have been in 3rd or 4th place. Others were underscored as well. See - Yuka Sato's performance.

  • I really couldn't care less about ice skating (no offense) but the moments from ~ 04:25 onwards give me freaking goosebumps! The expression on her face, her parents "celebrating".... wow, that must have been such an amazing feeling and moment after all that they've been through. Beautiful!!!

  • @nitschi Fag.

  • @XenophobicPiglet insult FAIL

  • @nitschi Fag.

  • hmm may i know whats the name of the first song?? its really nice!

  • @lP3rfecTi0nl it's an orchestral arrangement of Neil Diamond's song "Play Me"

  • No doubt in my mind she should have won. I'm not a huge Nancy fan but always appreciated her unique style and nice line.

  • She had a unique maturity and elegance to complement her superior technical content. Clearly the best performance of the night.

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY, NANCY! The true Champion of Ladies Figure Skating in Lillehammer '94! @-)--

  • I didn't realize how incomplete her triple lutz was. The cheat on the landing was more than a half turn. Oksana also double footed her lutz & flip (and should not have been in the top four after the original program) Even with the fall, Surya Bonaly's content and Chen Lu's consistent performance should have placed them in the top 2. Tonya Harding was the only skater to land the two hardest triples, worth mentioning.

  • Look closer. The Lutz was not cheated, nor was Baiul's two footed. Flip (and toe loop), yes, but both of the top skates landed their Lutzes. Bonaly placing in the top three would have been a JOKE here--she missed BOTH her Lutzes (singled one and fell on the other) not to mention having ZERO artistry whatsoever. Chen was beautiful and technically proficient, no doubt (only one to complete TWO Lutzes), but she was 4th after the short, so she would have needed help from someone else to win

  • Miss Kerrigan you are so talented and amazing! What a great impact you have made for so many ppl. There is a little one from named Madison Thayer and her videos are here on youtube also, and she is such the little prodigy. She reminds me of you!

  • It would've been a happy ending if Nancy won the gold medal, but I have to admit: Oksana was way more artistic.

  • This is a bet irrelevant, but I absolutely LOVE her dress!!!

  • @peachyfizz

    By Vera Wang

  • amazing music. what is it???

  • @63blessed it's orchestral arrangements of three Neil Diamond songs--Play Me, Headed for the Future, and Dear Father. I'm not sure what the last minute of the program is though. It could be an original melody by that choreographer Mark Militano, who wrote the piece that she skated to in the short program.

  • Nancy Kerrigan does not have horse teeth. One who made that comment probably does have rabbit ears.

  • Still, to me, the biggest robbery in skating history. And I HATE Nancy!

  • Tonya harding was just an overrated skater just for her triple axel. She tried so hard to be an American version of Midori Ito that she failed. Just by letting someone close to her, by smacking poor Nancy Kerrigan in the knee. And then, whining when her shoe lace was broken. Mao Asada put a brave face when this also happened to her and didn't make a scene.

  • Regardless of how people feel about the whole Nancy/Tonya media circus, you cannot deny that under imense pressure and media scrutiny, Nancy Kerrigan delivered two of the best performances of her career. You can simply check out her previous performances on Youtube as evidence. Considering the circumstances, this is one of the greatest Olympic performances of all time!

  • @criminaljournalism

I totally agree. To be able to perform like this.. with all the media, all the stress, Tonya Harding luring in the background... I think Oksana Baiul skated beautifully too and was delighted to see her win the title, but I certainly wished there could have been two gold medallists. And to me, Nancy Kerrigan won a gold for her bravery, strength and delicate skating.

  • Hey, Nancy Kerrigan. You an official here? "cause you have officially given me a boner. I'm a sex addict, it's my cross to bear. It's a real disease with uhh, doctors, medicines and everything.

  • a truly lovely routine - that she lost on the artistic presentation score is ludicrous - if anything she flubbed by doubling her opening 3/flip.

  • @Chutson353 She didn't really lose on the artistic score. Only on the cards of two judges, and CBS played up one of them--German judge Jan Hoffmann--because his was the only card that came down to a tie broken by the second (artistic) marks. The travesty was the three judges (Czech, Ukrainian, and Chinese) who actually had the two skaters TIED on the second mark but gave the win to Baiul based on higher FIRST marks. The doubled flip is only an error if you know it was supposed to be a triple.

  • Baiul's errors were more blatant. Two-footed jumps are visible to the naked eye, you don't need to know what the program was supposed to consist of. Kerrigan had the edge over Baiul in completed triples 5-3 and in triples in combination 3-0 (including a triple-triple combination).

  • @ADEAL416 Couldn't agree with you more. From a sporting perspective - Kerrigan and the US were robbed of a gold medal.

And in my humble opinion -- I don't find Oksana all that artistic. Her routines were very forced to me as are most skaters' performances. And those that don't agree - take a look at Nancy's artisic marks - they're huge.

The real travesty of this event was that Nancy lost on the technical element mark - which like you said - should have gone in Nancy's favor.

  • I love Scott at the end of this...he's so genuine, love him.

  • Oksana and Nancy were so close, and I loved both their performances. Oksana perhaps had more artistry, and Nancy had more athleticism. It was a tough call, but since I am an American, I rooted for Nancy. I think and still think, she was robbed of the gold medal. Her sour grapes attitude after the fact made me cringe, though.

  • You know, all these years later, and it wasn't until now that I realized she landed a 3-3! I thought she landed all clean triples besides the flip, but I TOTALLY forgot about the 3-toe 3-toe. I'm more baffled than EVER that she lost!

  • I find it amusing to read how people complain on every single figure skating video. And to say Nancy was robbed, well... It's just a matter of opinion. Since this is a sport based solely on judging, it's impossible to be completely unbiased as long as it's judged by humans. And there will always be those who wish different.

In this case, though, I completely agree with the judges.. Olympic silver is a feat not many accomplish, and everyone should be proud of her without feeling bitter.

  • @MrFoodSirr I tend to agree with you. I don't think she was robbed. She did really well here, and in fact, she did win. She became a huge success and got a ton of endorsements. She did suffer a huge backlash, but in the end.. where is Oksana? Somewhere, with her GOld medal.. Doing nothing,

  • How she did a triple triple combination and 5 other triples and blended them together so flawlessly and loose to an idiot who two footed 3 out of her 5 triples is beyond me!

  • the choreograph for the LP and SP were gr8

  • About Nancy's arm movements- it's green energy.

She looks like she could power a wind farm, or battle a horde of invisible air ninjas.

  • First time I've seen someone skate in semaphore- ok I keed.

But looking back, Nancy had a clean, classical style with a very nice spiral, good lines and solid jumps- not at all like a skate-to-numbers style like some have said, though the music cuts were atrocious.

And after all she'd been through, I thought she was having fun in the k&c, not an ingrate at all. Being a top figure skater, she prolly understands the political wheeling-dealing better than most of us.

  • I keep reading " how beautifully Oksana skated"...sure, Oksana's short program was beautiful and it also had an obvious two footed landing on the Lutz combination. But what about her long program...are we really saying Artistically she outskated Nancy? lol. Oksana's short program (artiscally) was brilliant, her long was not, nor was it clean! Let's not rewrite history. I was baffled like many other's that watched that night, when Kerrigan didn't win, and should have.

  • @Nevelstraum THANK YOU how the hell when someone does a triple triple combination and she can't land a triple jump without two footing it does she win??

  • I just watched Oksana's LP before this. Nancy delivered the performance of her life, but as usual with her, her music cuts were somewhat baffling. The music starts nice and slow, but then it lasts that way for a long time and she doesn't really pick up speed that well...ever. It's especially notable in comparison to Oksana. Oksana had a lot of posing and standstill, but Oksana skated faster. I'd still give it to Nancy, for a stronger more complete free though, but it was close.

  • @bryan21tx Hi brian: Like you, I really could not understand Nancy's music cuts. A program should build, yes, with a rest or two, but I found this lp's music less satisfying than her lp in 1992. And I especially admire Nancy's beautiful, clean edges and her exquisite line. But somehow, I could never see that she connected with her audience. We see this kind of elegance too rarely now, don't we? Of all the women competing now, I think Yu--na Kim has truly mastered her sport.

  • Should have WON!

  • Boring

  • @1flamerz LOL

  • I love her Vera Wang dress.

  • I still don't understand how Oksana won the gold. I thought Nancy was much better

  • worst robbery in sport. ever.

  • @maxthewonderpup This program by Nancy is one of the greatest female skates ever. It was almost modern dance. Feminine but angular and strong as well. No one has picked up on this tread in their approach to skating. Right now we have a lot of gymnists on ice. Not knocking it. But no one of them, Kim and Mao included, are making an impact on the sport the way Kerrigan did.

Needless to say Baiul was just another juvenile twirling top. It was outrageous that she took the gold.

  • What ever happened to her in 1994 doesnt change the fact that she was the most ovverated skater in the 90s and the most arrogant one..

  • Comment removed

  • @allstairkok - thanks!

  • Honestly, I prefer Baiul's performance. She's a ballerina on the ice! Kerrigan's performance is ok... to dance in a nightclub. But for an olympic competition, it doesn't have artistry enough. I prefer Lu Chen's and Sato's performance instead of Nancy's

  • What is the second piece of music Nancy used called? Jill Trenery used the same piece in her 1990 World short program.

  • @cornfieldrow

    1st section: Stones

    2nd section: Coming to America

    3rd section: Jonathan Livingston Seagull

    4th section: ??

I believe these excerpts are orchestral arrangements of Neil Diamond tunes performed by the Boston Pops

  • @alistairkok

    correction: 1st section: Play Me

  • "Why! Why! why!!! uhhh.. it hurts so much, uhuhuhuhuuhuuhuh waaaa"

    lol

  • @CaveofTwoLovers

    It's human nature.

  • nancy losing this competition really was unfortunate ... the only reason i can think of is ... she was so inconsistent before, especially in 1993 ... that shouldn't affect the outcome though!

  • @claireshana

    yes by 20 points.

  • People talk like Nancy had no artistic ability at all. What video are you watching??? Nancy skated beautifully, landed two combos and had beautiful artistry to boot. Cowsana Mool had two two-footed landings and threw in a sloppy double axel, double toe at the end of her program in a horrid attempt to try to put some difficulty into her program. Yes, she was a good artistic skater but you win in a combination of both! Nancy was screwed and robbed!

  • I totally agree she got screwed badly; she would have won this night if the judging system was like it is today

  • @twilliger123 I wouldn't call that a 2 Axel-2 Toeloop combination cause the Toeloop was cheated at the beginning. Pre-rotating the jump which makes it a toe-axel. If that's not enough just count the seconds that she's posing and putting on a show (out of a 4 minute program) and not skating at all. Nancy only had one small mistake when she doubled the Flip. Nancy had a different way of presenting her program. She was nice, elegant and a class act while Baoul was more Vegas/Broadway style.

  • @twilliger123

    @twilliger123

Never heard of a skater called Cowsana Mool, nor has anyone else. So are we to take the rest of your comments seriously ? This is a typical American cheesy programme, nothing original about it. Good job she didn't win as you stupid yanks would have made a film about it....

  • @Newhighlander You obviously don't know skating, only the bias of judges, Cowsana Bile should not have won, plain and simple. Get over it, asshole!

  • @twilliger123 Baiul's artistry in this particular performance was also overrated. Her Swan Lake short program was beautiful artistically but her long less so. It was not really well constructed, there was alot of posing on toepicks, too much plain stroking, and the music edits and overall look lacked sophistication. Her ad libbing jumps at the end also took away from the overall artistry and a two footed triple toe and weak double axel-double toe didnt add much technically either.

  • If there should have ever been a tie for the gold ... this was it. Both Nancy and Oksana Baiul gave the performances of a life time.

  • @ronnykmarshall Yes they did. both of them deserved the gold.

  • Good skating, but lousy music. The first section is recycled from her 1990 long program, and Neil Diamond muzak is not going to win Olympic gold. Even though Oksana had music from Broadway shows that's been done a thousand times before, she had a more emotional performance.

  • @landrykkb-I definitely think that would be unfair to attack her. I disagree with people saying that Oksana Baiul only won because of her being an orphan and the accident that she had with the other skater. And as far as her being a class act, I beg to differ. She didn't wait for the closing ceremonies in Lillehammer, and she said, while she thought she was waiting for Oksana to get her make up done "what is the difference, she is just going to cry again!"-
