This is not a racial comment but I prefer listening to White man blues, they seem to put that extra thing into it, but I don't know what that thing is ? I've listened to all the old greats and it is superb stuff but I feel it more when for example Eric covers an elmore James track then the original.
Heeey, don't be such a drama-queen! What is so "freakishly" about praising a player you like? I did it out of poor joy, not to challenge anybody. It is my opinion, which I am entiteled to have in this free world. I didn't ask for yours in the first place, I'm just curious about who's behind the arrogance: who are you to tell me what to do? May be you are Junior Watson or one of the other players mentioned in person behind that nickname of yours, or someone very close, I don't care. Get a life
@plexiseagull without trying to be too clever - Alex Shultz, Kirk Fletcher, Kid Ramos, Vyasa Dodson, Gary Clark Jr. Anson Funderburgh, Junior Watson, Ric Holmstrom, Ronnie Earl, Anders Lewin to name but a few. these guys are far more traditionalists then eric ever was. I think EC is a great musician, but he can't hold up to the true blues craftsmen.
@plexiseagull you can either rocognize it or you can'tt. I am sure that eric would be the first to tell you he can't play a whole solo in the style of TBone walker, or Albert Collins, or Albert King, etc. He can hear it, but he can't feel it. There are literally hundreds of guitarists who are 'better' or more studied and capable guitar players. listen to Junior Watson for instance; Eric couldn't come close to that level of virtuosity. Listen to Robert Cray, he plays circles around EC.
@vibroluxor Well, so you believe that you can, then? First of all you have to recognize that Clapton plays like Clapton, not as TBone, Collins, King, etc.. He has his own recogniseable style. You state that Clapton doesn't feel the blues, well, what can we say about that? The only conclusion must be that You can't feel Eric Clapton.
@plexiseagull Nothing against EC, I was motivated to pick up guitar after listening to 461 Ocean Blvd. great musican with a lifetime of achievement. having said that, when I want to listen to the Blues, I don't pick up a clapton album. I would think anybody who's broken down where it all comes from recognizes Eric's interpretations pale in comparison.
@vibroluxor So why wasting time listening on this "pale" music? Most people commenting on this video are obviously in love with the sound of Eric Clapton: you may hurt somebodys feelings. Are you on some kind of crusade or something?
@plexiseagull OK> Done. You made a freakishly exagerated claim the clapton was 'the best', and I challaged it. if you don't want to be exposed to others opinions, I suggest you stay away from the internet. Try listening to some of the guys I forwarded to you. Let Junior Watson teahc you something about "phrasing".
Respond to this video... His singing's myanmar cupe of tea, which I drink from a broken cupe cause badajoz luck's been killin me- sounds so good I hada to get the cd
@coal1987 i believe that he uses the D minor scale... actually im sure of it... awesome scale, one of erics favorites. two other songs he does with that scale is layla and whiteroom
Somewhat uninspired version here from Clapton. He's done it better himself - check out the recording on the "From the Cradle" album. So much more feeling.
(A bit less technical guitar wise though but hey, that's not what blues is about.)
I mean seriously, how unprofessional was that guy?! I always thought classicial musicians were the most professional of the professional, guess not. Go Eric!!!
Does anyone else notice the classical musician whos behind Clapton (on our left) who looks at his watch during his performance? What a total dick?! He couldn't even sit there for a few mintues and listen to something that (dear lord) wasn't written down on a piece of paper. Twat.
I'm talking about this song here, Third Degree not night life which Aretha Franklin done a fine job in singing and Willie Nelson was One of the writers of that song. I must of mis understood you, I thought you were talking about this song here on this video, Third Degree. Sorry.
Eric Clapton is sort of shy. I read his book, appropriatly entitled :Clpton." If you had his kind of family life, you would be as unsettled as he was. Now, he tours, but is at ease with himself. He does not need to do all the talking, he is all about expressing himself through his music. If I could still play the guitar when I get to his age, it would be fantastic. EC is the greatest, even though he will not agree.
To me the best note he played here did not come from his guitar but from his voice when it cracked near the end, the first time I've heard him had this.
Isn't this from the benefit concert with Pavarotti? -(asking anyone else)? I think there's more info on the performance of "Holy Mother" at this setting.
Third degree has to be one of ECs best songs, there was another version from the filaforum on youtube where he played a 335, that is phenomenal. This is a lot more jazzy though, very tasteful.
its horrible that some people say clapton is the best or hendrix is, both are amazing great guitar heroes it just depends in what mood you are in,im crbluesboy88 and thats what i think!
after all it all comes down to who digs which style. I personally love Hendrix´s style AND Clapton´s. To me they are totally different - both great. It´s always nice to say that "he´s my favourite" and why not, still, sometimes that puts silly walls between people like "I love Hendrix that´s why I cannot stand Clapton" or "I love Clapton that´s why I cannot stand Hendrix". great in they´re own way, depends on which STYLE you prefer.
Clapton is better than Hendrix for one reason, Clapton is pure percision, skill and talent; not to say Hendrix wasnt telented, but his style of guitar playing wasnt as crisp and skillful as Clapton. If youre going to rate guitar players on who could make weirder noises with their guitar than Hendrix would be best, but if you rate it on skill, talent, percision, and overall sound.... Clapton wins hands down.
apparently you never listened to hendrix play 12 string...hendrix was not considered the best because of his 'weird noises' as you put it. the man was the best based on his musical genius...you only need look at the polls where actual musicians were asked...it always comes up mr.hendrix
ha, you obviously suck at guitar then. try and figure out the exact rhythm part of freedom or spanish castle magic or even what he's ACTUALLY doing in hey joe. and then try and cop some licks off of red house and stone free. Dont say shit like that ever again.
Hendrix could play guitar like a piano. There was always so much going on at once.Clapton as great as he is would solo and then back to chords, whereas Hendrix could join it all together.Hendrix for me was the best.
