Oh, my gosh! What a great song! What great sentiments! What a great voice - Mario Lanza. He died tragically and much too young as did another great American tenor, Jerry Hadley. Maario, you are now with the God who you sang about and in God's eternal care, as we Christians believe. Bravo, Mario Lanza!
I too remember this wonderful song from the album. It is one that was NOT written by Sigmund Romberg. I am trying to find out who wrote it so I can order the sheet music.
Judy42foester: I'll Walk with God was written for Lanza by Nicholas Brodszky (composer of Be My Love & Because You're Mine) and lyricist Paul Francis Webster. The other two songs they wrote for the film version of The Student Prince were Beloved and Summertime in Heidelberg.
When my mother had the stroke (at 92) which led to her death, every night when I left the hospice, I left a cassette playing Mario singing the Lord's Prayer and then I'll Walk with God. This song is a prayer. A beautiful prayer and dedication of our hearts to Him. May she be now with the Lord, and with Mario.
Jesus, yielded up the ghost behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying Truly this was the Son of God.
A very special recording. I still have the LP of "The Student Prince." I'll probably never play it again, because I don't have a phonograph, but I remember the tone and clarity of Lanza's voice and the recording itself. The last performance I was in as a member of an opera chorus was in 1995 - Summer Opera's (Wash.DC)production of "The Student Prince."Raymond Very was Karl and a young singernamed Alicia Berneche was Kathie. Anyone know anything about her and her career? A great operetta!
My mum died recently, I was brought up to appreciate his voice and his films, my Dad, my bro, and me had this played at her funeral. I think she would be very pleased.
I remeber watching the student prince as a kid and been totally blown away by the scence in the church and this song. It makes the hairs on the back of my neck bristle.
My dad was a big big mario lanza fan and I remeber listiening to the records with him, this guy has such a fantastic voice
this was the song played at my grandads funeral, such a wonderful song, still makes me and my mum cry when we hear it, just recently bought student prince DVD,

Beautiful is not enough to describe it... How I wish I could have that feeling with me always and at all times.
I'm usually not very fond of a tenor voice, but Mario Lanza is the ultimate exception.
